We love Aegis

Aegis was the only assisted living facility that would take my dad after his massive stroke. Due to my dad's many health issues Aegis continued to step up to meet his needs. The staff is wonderful, welcoming, and very patient with my dad and our entire family. The facility is beautiful and my dad's room is perfect for his needs. They are very communicative and will call me with any concerns. I am so thankful for Aegis as I feel like a load has been taken off of my mind since I know he is in a safe, comfortable and caring facility. My dad is a music lover and they provide music entertainment two times a week. This week we attended a luau with a band and hula dancer. The dining room is extremely welcoming and you feel like you're in a restaurant setting. [name removed], our waiter is always accommodating with my dad's menu requests... we go and eat with my dad at least two times a week and the food is great! My dad definitely has his favorites on the menu. Thank you Aegis for all of your help.

Beware

My father was in the memory care unit assisted living. And I've heard through the grapevine that Aegis is a cut above other local comparable facilities. But when people have some form of dementia they need attentive care for all areas of personal care and safety. Unfortunately, the care giver or tech level were not attentive to basic care like hearing aids or oral care/dentures etc. It took months of educating and complaining to get the care my father needed. He also had multiple falls and it was up to me to figure out how to make his life safer for him with alarm mats that would alert staff to his getting up and moving. I'm not certain this is Aegis shortcoming or the system of assisted living combined with dementia and serious balance/willfulness issues. But it was a spiraling cycle of crises and decline. My father survived 7 months. And I survived trying to ensure he got the care he needed. Anyone placing a parent in a memory care/assisted living facility must have daily time to police what care their family member is actually getting. You cannot just place them there, write a check and expect quality attention by the actual caregivers.

Lack of caring

Some of assistants were very cold and unsympathetic. I caught a uti due to improper cleaning. Longer than 2 hours between being moved from one position. On positive side: food was very nice. Room was attractive as well as overall facility. I think my weight added to issues. Most of staff are small women who cant change someone of my weight(266lbs)

We need more

If you have a parent or relative that does nor have need of intuitive care this place is fine. But we moved my father in after the death of my Mom and he's not adjusting at all. He barely eats and is losing weight. He needs some basic care and attention, like making sure his hearing aids are correctly placed in the charger or his dentures are cleaned and soaking. Basic attention to needs he is too depressed to do. Complaining to directors doesn't result in any change by care managers. They don't see it or do it. Disappointed.

I would recommend Aegis of Carmichael. The move in process was seamless. My father had to be transported from another facility and Aegis took care of everything. He wanted a different room and they accommodated him and moved all his things twice. They treated my father like family. He was on hospice for his final three weeks at Aegis. His main desire was to be pain free, comfortable, and most importantly- clean, as he was bedridden. They did it all with tremendous care. I could not have done what they did for my father. I'm very grateful for them.

Happy residents

I am very happy that my husband is here. My husband is in memory care unit so I'm familiar with that. Everyone in the entire facility is helpful with positive attitudes, always smiling. The residents also appear happy, always smiling.

Things you should know before choosing Aegis of Carmichael

They are not responsive/communicative about what is going on with loved one. Leadership does not take responsibility of their duties, therefore, staff doesn't either. I think their main concern is profit. I would not recommend this facility to family and friends.

They took care of my father as their own

My father lived at three places prior to living at this facility. This one was the best. They have a lot of activities. The food is excellent. It's very comfortable and homey. It's not too big or too small. The staff is very attentive (including maintenance staff.) Management is always accessible. They provide housekeeping (could make beds better!). Personal Laundry service is available at an additional cost. My father eventually entered hospice there. They took care of him as their own until he passed. I would recommend this facility to family and friends.

Highly Recommended

I would highly recommend this facility! The staff is extremely helpful. Their food is really good. I've eaten there several times and it's always been good. We've even had extended family eat there and comment on how good the food is. The facility is wonderful, they keep it really nice. It's always very pleasant and even smells good. When you go in there, you know it's a special place. The nursing staff is really on top of everything and quick to move to move in emergencies. They have brought concerns to our attention and immediately taken care of them. They are extremely helpful. As are the Doctors. We're very pleased!

Some place I would put my own dad.

We have no complaints about this community, they have done a great job. The staff members and their care services get above 5 stars.

My review of Aegis of Charmichael

We have an in person tour and our experience was good, but the community was not as new and bright as what we were hoping. We thought the price was also a little higher and at the time there were no men there.

don't fall for the sales pitch and appearance

The facility is beautiful but it's all smoke and mirrors. When you first meet they give you all the service and care they will provide but they do not follow through with that care. Every additional thing they do is charged on the bill the cost is very high. Beware of the salespeople. I would not recommend this community to others.
