Review for Brookdale Walla Walla

The Brookdale has been a great improvement in my father's quality of life. He walks to the dining room 3 times a day and then there are snacks. He often sits in the common area and is frequently greeted. My brother [name removed] is the one living there and sees him 2-3 x per week. So far, he thinks things are going well. . I would recommend it, but, he isn't a very particular person when it comes to environment. He's far more interested in daily ice cream.

Our Experience

Staff is very caring and kind for the majority, but now appears the facility is short staffed. Activities are not very exciting and often are canceled or just not happening -with out notice. Housekeeping is done minimally once a week and unless Brookdale has your resident on their shower assist then laundry often is overlooked. The food is not very exciting most often and seems to be the cheapest choices. Scheduling Transportation is not the most reliable and one can not go with or send a caregiver with the resident. I would not recommend this facility unless you provide your loved one extra assistance and support. Also the billing is vague and gives very little indication of what the charges are, which is a frequent stressor.

Great experience

Overall the staff are very caring. Improvements are consistently being made. New painting was completed throughout and it feels fresh and new. I would recommend this to all looking in the Walla Walla area as a good option for care.

Nice,Easy Goin staff. But for Profit Business. There might be somewhere better, but I could live there.

My Mother's room has a nice view. But the adjoining room has a tv that frequently [name removed] from 5am , all day. My mom doesn't like to complain and has so only twice and the sound lessened. The staff is great. Maybe understaffed. My Mom is Gluten intolerant. When they have food with gluten, they will not provide a gluten free substitute. That is her big complaint. And 8 o'clock breakfast ,not flexible, too early for Mom.

Caring staff with a work in progress

My loved one is currently a resident at Brookdale Walla Walla. Overall, our experience at this facility has been okay. The facility is located in a woodsy setting that is quiet and pleasant. However, I feel like so much more could be done to improve the experience for the residents and their families. Sometimes housekeeping of the rooms is forgotten or overlooked, but it seems to be improving a bit with reminders. Overall, the staff is very caring, but training in some areas still seems to be in progress. Several keep saying that they are new or are being trained, lots of excuses. The quality of care sometimes seems inconsistent, also. But it seems to be better with reminders. The food is okay. There seem to be fewer food options available compared to a couple of months ago and the portions are smaller. The activities have improved, they were almost non existent until recently. This facility does not have their own transportation, they share with a neighboring Brookdale facility. This has caused everyone difficulty with transportation. Lastly, the value. I see the value, however dealing with the inconsistencies, lack of communication and not knowing what is or isn't happening is very stressful.

First Choice To Place Your Loved One

It is a beautiful spot and worth looking into. The community is finding it hard to find staff, and some of the newer staff isn't as trained as they could be. There were choices for meals for the residents to choose from.

Very friendly but not for advanced dementia residents

The staff were very friendly. Residents with dementia need more assistance and to be offered the daily opportunity to attend activities. I feel my mom needed more one on one attention. The food was good with a variety on menu and mom always ate her meals. I had asked the staff to take my mom to the bathroom every two hours but they didn't follow through and weren't consistent with it sometimes waiting up to four hours. Resident with advanced dementia need more frequent attention throughout the day than this community was able to provide.

Attentive Staff!!

The staff at this community have been very attentive to my loved ones needs while she has been in there care at this facility. I have seen a lot of progress in her since she made the move, she has been eating much better and is now enjoying some of the activities with the other residents. So far we have no complaints and are pleased with how things have been going. I would recommend this place to anyone interested.

The staff are friendly and try to be ...

The staff are friendly and try to be helpful. They are overworked, underpaid, and turn over often. (I am assuming the pay because of what I have learned about the insustry in Walla Walla. I haven't asked the staff at Garrison what their wages are) The general atmosphere is nice - nice "living room" and dining hall. Rooms are also nice and bright. Everything is kept clean and inviting. The food is simply abysmal. For what the residents pay for meals, they should be getting something far better. There are many residents who should not be there -their care level means that the staff simply can't give care to the others on a timely basis. Unfortunately, the experience here is not worse than other facilities in Walla Walla - it may be one of the best.

Great Community

The community is not located very close to our family but we really needed something immediately. They worked really hard to keep the price within budget for us. They have really been doing a great job for us. The grounds around it really stood out when we visited. There were deer that were gracing and a few cotton tail bunnies. At one point a flock of wind turkey was on the community grounds as well. There were residents walking around that you could tell they really enjoyed it. The food is very well prepared and very appealing.
