Seniors in Florence, Alabama, can experience southern hospitality in the homelike ambiance of Columbia Cottage — a single-story assisted living community spread across beautifully landscaped grounds. Residents and their families can rest easy knowing the community not only provides knowledgeable care but also rests within minutes of two medical centers.
At Columbia Cottage, seniors reside on site while receiving assistance with activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living. Care services are tailored to every individual’s unique needs and are provided around the clock by professional caregivers — some of which have previous nursing experience. The community not only offers long-term care but respite care, as well. Between emergency call systems and consistent supervision, residents can feel at ease while residing in private apartments.
In addition to professional caregivers, the community has an enrichment director and resident services director who help provide stimulating activities and amenities. Through a fully scheduled activity calendar, the community encourages socialization among residents. Common pastimes range from bingo games to crafts. A blessing
The tour was awesome and it just got better and better. Wonderful staff very friendly and accommodating. It feels like a very big house. They are taking wonderful care of my mom and us as well. I know she is in the right place and I don't have to worry about her care. I thank the cottage for everything they have done for my mom and us. If anyone is looking for a very special place for there loved one I absolutely would recommend taking a tour. Thank God for the cottage.

Would recommend to independent seniors
For independent patients it is fine but for those that truly need assistance it is a little more difficult due to the lack of staff but I will say it is getting better lately and my parents are getting better about asking for help. I was told certain things would not be issues and they have been initially but we are working through those concerns. Overall a good facility and glad we have them there.

Moms 100th birthday
Mom has been living at the Cottages for nearly 9 years. She celebrated her 100th birthday on [date removed]. [name removed] and the crew orchestrated a fantastic party for family and friends. They keep activities going for the residences and include the families on social events, and of course Thanksgiving and Chritmas dinners. Mom has enjoyed her years there. She chose to live there because of friends who stayed there over the years. Thanks goes out [name removed] and all the others who have kept up with her health needs and daily care. We've always been appraised of whats going on. Mom has had a good life there and we're all thankful she chose it.

My Dad’s home away from home
My Dad spent his last 2 years living at Columbia Cottage in Florence,Al. When he first came to Columbia Cottage there was no activity director, so I would go once a week to play cards and eat watermelon with him and his friends. After The Cottage hired an activity director the residents always had a list of activities to choose from throughout the day from cooking ,arts and crafts, birthday parties, manicures,exercise sessions to field trips. The field trips included restaurant outings,train rides,park outings and fishing fun! My Dad never had a boring moment at Columbia Columbia thanks to the the facility realizing the importance of keeping their residents busy with fun activities with their friends!! Thank you,Columbia Cottage, for taking care of my Dad physically, emotionally and mentally!!!

Best of the Best
The following areas are those that I’ve been most impressed with:
1. Lot’s of fun activities for different interests and ability levels.
2. Clean attractive facilities.
3. Well trained staff.
4. Exceptionally caring administrators and staff.
My sister is a current resident, and our father was a resident before he passed away in 2014. So my experience with the Cottage has been long-term. I initially chose the Cottage for my dad several years ago due to their excellent reputation, which continued to hold true when my nieces began looking for a place for my sister (their mom).

Great for independent seniors, not so much assisted living
I would want other families to know that the facility is understaffed and there is a high turnover rate. If your loved one is high functioning senior who is more independent and can get around well and wants socialization, then the facility would be fine. It is more of a retirement community, not an assisted living facility. It is just not an ideal setting for someone who needs more care and assistance. It is not the most updated facility, hopefully they will be doing some more renovations soon. A lot of promises made up front were not what was delivered.

My mother spent the last several years of her life at the Cottage. Soon after she moved in it became home to her and the people there became family. There simply aren't enough words to describe how much of a blessing the Cottage was to my mother and our entire family! They all called her momma!
My mother was a resident of Columbia Cottage in Florence, Alabama for about eight years. She moved in when she was [age removed]and stayed until she died at the age of [age removed]. During that time her required level of care when from zero to extremely high. No matter her needs, the staff at Columbia Cottage were always very attentive, compassionate and loving as they were giving her professional care'. The staff at the Cottage worked hard to create an atmosphere of home. We were always so comfortable and reassured that mother was in a wonderful place. They all called her Momma and, just as you should, they took very good care of her!

Highly Recommend!!!
I could not think of a better place for a loved one to be than the Columbia Cottage. My grandmother was a resident there, and they truly made her feel at home. All of the workers are precious, and they all genuinely care about the well-being of their residents. I would definitely recommend!!

Loving staff treated my mom like family they loved her & she loved them ??
It is always a hard decision to make when your mom can’t stay at home by herself any longer. Columbia Cottage was an answered prayer. The first day I walked in I knew that mom would be happy there. She made lots of great friends & enjoyed the activities, little outings & special occasions. They took good care of her & we were thankful for that. When her health started declining they were so good to our family. We will always love & appreciate the staff at Columbia Cottage.

Wonderful Place
My father was at The Cottage several years ago. I was very impressed then with his care and even more so now that my sister, [name removed], is there. She is well taken care of, loves the other residents and all the workers. Her safety and happiness means the world to her family, and we never have to worry about her. I have some experience with other assisted living facilities through my in-laws, and none compare to The Cottage!

Columbia Cottage Florence,Al
My Dad lived independently at Columbia Cottage for 1 1/2 years until he was hospitalized and transferred to a rehab/nursing home facility where he died 6 weeks later. Thanks to the loving care he received from the staff at Columbia Cottage, he enjoyed life to the fullest until going to the hospital. He enjoyed 3 delicious meals daily, went to every church services and devotionals everyday and participated in “in house” activities and “off site” field trips!! Several examples of field trips included actual fishing outings to McFarland Park and train rides, duck feedings and lunch at Spring Park in Tuscumbia. My Dad lived with me for 9 months but I quickly realized that he needed much more socializing and activity than I could provide!! The atmosphere and staff were 100 percent better than I could provide at my home since my husband and I were still working. He even participated in an exercise class which helped him physically and mentally!! I will be grateful to the staff forever!!!!!!!

A wonderful, loving care facility
My mom has been a resident here for a few years now. She entered during a most difficult time period at the beginning of Covid restrictions. The local staff however went above and beyond to take great care of her, and help her with the transition. She receives great care and there are always fun activities available keeping the residents occupied and busy. My mom was so very lonely after we lost my dad, but she has a whole new cottage of great friends who have become like family to her and to us as well. The sweet staff loves and cares for my mom as if she is their very own mother. We are so very blessed to be a part of the Columbia Cottage family!!
