Substandard Facility for Orthopedic Care

Certification of this facility should be removed or limited. I nearly died from a HITS heparin allergy they were very slow to recognize. It was 2 days after symptoms of shortness of breath and edema that I was sent back to the hospital. If anyone had bothered to look at the blood draw my platelets were crashing-at 15 on readmittance to hospital. By then I had experienced a pulmonary embolism at Coronado. Staff had no idea how to adjust the 1990's vintage hospital beds to elevate my leg. No way to elevate my leg with broken femur except to remain in bed-no chairs or other means to elevate when sitting. There for 6 full days and never had a shower.

Do NOT choose this place for loved ones

If you love your loved one DO NOT place them here. This facilty is not attentive to those that are placed in their care. Mom had only been with them about six days. I should have listened to the reviews of patients and not the five star rating from the CMS. They have orders that mom is a fall risk and a floor mat is needed. There is a sign advising that she is a fall risk of five. They did not place one in the floor last night and mom tried to get out of bed and fell. She had a swollen eye but was okay. I accepted their apology with a guarantee that the staff will be informed of her fall risk that they apparently didn't know about. Nurse claims they were unaware she was a fall risk. This is BS as they tell her she had to use the bathroom in her briefs and they will clean her because she is unable to walk in her own. She is there to get stronger to walk. An hour later they call to tell me that PT placed her in a wheel chair and left the room for about ten minutes. Another fall.

Understaffed and Poor Care

I think they were so understaffed that they can’t really manage the people they have. It’s a disadvantage for the people that are there because they have to be there. My dad remained soiled for a period of time. I would go there and wash him myself sometimes. Part of it was that they’d ask him if he wants a bath and he would say no but you don’t asks someone with dementia if they want a bath. Of course he says no. My dad is blind and he would drop food on the floor and it would remain there for a day or two. I would go in daily and try to clean him up. He was happy to leave there. As far as the rehab, they did make progress with him in his ability to walk.
