Both parents loved living here

My parents have been residents for more than a decade. Mom is still in independent living, but will probably transition to assisted living soon. Dad recently passed after a lengthy stay in the on-campus skilled nursing facility. Dad was the more social of the two and he immediately immersed himself in the life of the community, serving on a scholarship board and "doing his time" on a food committee. When they first moved in they were quite healthy and reasonably active, and my impression of their first year there was like being in the freshman dorm -- a party down the hall somewhere almost every night. But they settled in and the aging process slowed them down. Mom got involved in the library there and a few dinner groups. Fewer friends but good friends who definitely watched over her as Dad's illness progressed. I have to say that the facilities are amazing and for a huge facility, the staff are wonderful. They never complained, except occasionally about the food being too bland.
