In My Honest Opinion
For the families - make sure to check on your loved ones at this facility for bed soars!!! Also be aware of the [removed] nonrefundable fee for coverage of any incidentals that your loved one may incur. Other than that the staff was nice ????, food was good and the bedroom was clean!

Smaller community
Mom seems to be happy and comfortable here and staff seem to be friendly and helpful for the most part. They did have some more services like hair stylists, but they did have to get rid of them due to covid circumstances. I do like that it is a smaller community with fewer residents, so it is not as overwhelming.

Very thankful brother!
Hello. I'm writing to clear up some of the total inaccuracies of the review my sister gave Golden View. To give some background. My mom was living with me from the end of Dec. 2014 until Aug. 2018. Considering I live alone and work full-time things went pretty well. Thank God for a wonderful next door neighbor that helped me with caring for my mom. In the beginning of 2018 my mom's condition worsened. Her cognitive level was now to the point where she could no longer follow story lines of her favorite TV shows. Along with having dementia my mom would halucinate as well. Prior to this point in time the hallucinations were endearing. She would hear the chorus singing across the street all day long, she imagined cute little friends, Louie, Jose', Zeka, yes ... you remember the Zeka virus. The hallucinations now in the beginning of 2018 were turning more aggressive and hostile in nature. She would imagine things coming from the ceiling and attacking her while lying to go to sleep. She would believe her cousins that passed years ago were trying to kill her. She wouldn't eat and went from weighing 130-140 lbs. to 97 lbs. in a half a year. I hired a part-time care giver to be with her and try to engage her to keep her from these hostile hallucinations. She now was to the point where she thought poison was in her food and wouldn't eat or drink and wouldn't get out of her bed. I would try talking to her and she would cry "I don't understand words". Didn't know who I was or even who she was. The feeling of despair and that this was my mom's time was undeniable! I took her to the emergency room and after a battle they got her to settle down. Knowing that the day would come that I couldn't have her stay with me I was doing a little research and went to and called some nursing homes. What appealed to me about Golden View was they specialized with only memory care patients and at that time only the capacity for eight residents. They had 2 and most of the time 3 people on staff to care for the residents so the ratio of care givers to residents was very high and I knew she would receive a lot more one on one attention. In a bigger place my feeling was she would get lost in the crowd and the general feel of the environment would be much more clinical. Where as Golden View's home environment would feel much warmer and inviting. So based on my rapport with G.V. my decision was to place her there. Upon arriving at G.V. the nurse immediately got my mom on hospice care. The renown geriatric doctor that cares for the residents at G.V. got her on the proper medication to combat the hallucinations. My mother started eating, gained back all her weight and then some! Bathed everyday! I would often see the G.V. staff sit with the residents spending 30 minutes or so spoon feeding them a meal so they would get nourishment. I've witnessed them take a couple of residents who I thought were having their last weeks and turned them to live many months with some measure of quality. From Aug. 2018 until March when the Corona virus hit I would visit 3 to 4 times a week, every week, and my mom was singing, dancing, had children visiting, playing games, and had a family home type environment. I invite you to visit the G.V. website to view the videos and photos to see for yourselves. Due to the choices and decisions made by the staff at G.V. they turned my mom around and gave her the best happiest times in years. For this I'm grateful ??. I want to make it perfectly clear at no time whatsoever was there any conversation of any kind between G.V. personnel and myself about paying money so I could go see my mom when she had covid. I paid G.V. $6500 in the beginning of May because that was the monthly fee that was due the 1st of each month. Both the doctors from the hospital and the geriatric doctor felt my my mom's best chance for recovery was to go back to G V. in her familiar environment and be placed on hospice again. So when she was released by the hospital sometime in the first week of May I followed the doctor's advice and had her taken back to G.V. It was hospice personnel that instructed me I would be allowed to go in and visit my mom when she arrived back at G.V. not anyone from G.V. I also wanted to point out that my mom was on an oxygen tank and was in no condition at all to talk with anyone on the phone. Whenever any staff entered my mom's room they had to be wearing a protective white suit that takes considerable time to put on and take off. It wasn't as if they could just wipe a phone and hand it to her. My mom had several serious health issues. Heart, lung, digestive, and senile degenerative brain disease. These factors at her age along with the isolation and no visitors was too much for her to overcome. Covid-19 has turned the entire medical community and all of our lives upside down! Especially in the earliest stages of the epidemic. We're still trying to find our way as there's controversy among the medical experts. At this time testing was hardly available or accurate and G.V. did as advised by the medical doctors and the CDC, which was to treat any symptoms and the residents as if they had the virus. To blame G.V. or the doctors is beyond me. My mom lived to 93 years of age. Her name was [name removed].

Horrified Daughter
Do not place a loved one in this horrid place. They were not forthcoming during the Covid crisis when 7 of the 8 residents became ill with Covid. My Mom died there with Covid because they did not get a replacement nurse who had become ill. They left the care of of 7 residents with Covid to two caretakers. The doctor did not visit the facility for 10 days when my Mom took a turn for the worse. The one nurse became ill and they did not get a replacement nurse. My Mom's sodium levels went up with her having to go to the hospital. The hospital revived my Mom and my brother who had P.O.A. had her sent back to Golden View. My brother paid the owner [name removed] $6,500 at the beginning of May and he allowed my brother to visit my Mom in her room at Golden View because of this. I called and asked to talk to my Mom on the phone and was told I could not because she tested positive for Covid at the hospital. They could not disinfect the phone for me to talk to my mother, but they allowed my brother to visit because he paid [name removed] the monthly fee The policy of Golden View at this time as far as I was told was to not allow outsiders to visit. My Mom died [date removed]. You can keep your loved one home and play bingo with them, or find a in-home caretaker to play bingo with them and play music with them and not have to worry about whether they are getting appropriate medical attention. This place was not forthcoming at all about what the heck was going on. There were guidelines put out at the end of 2019 to places like this about what steps to take with the Covid threat. This place did not take any steps I know of to help protect residents from Covid. This place is run for profit and not for the health of the residents. They do not have many residents in their care. At the time my Mom was there, there were only 8. They did not take take the threat of Covid seriously enough to keep the residents safe. The guidelines were out there from the CVC at the end of 2019. From what I know, they did not care about them or my Mom. If you care about your loved one, find someone to come into your home or their home and play bingo and listen to music with them. You have more control about the loved one's health care and outside factors. You can make sure the doctor is paying needed attention to your loved one. You place them here and you lose that control. Especially during these perilous times. Keep them home where you have more oversight. You can rest more peacefully later.

Helpless horrified daughter
My advice to others who are considering placing their loved one into this facility is to not do it. My brother who had P.O.A. placed my Mom there 1 1/2 years ago. I live far away, but visited as often as I could. Visits and phone calls became very difficult because there would be some other resident who would be screaming. I remember being on the phone with my Mom and her saying I can't hear you because of the screaming and her having to stop the conversation because of this. At the beginning of this past April, 7 of the 8 residents woke up in the morning with fevers. It was obvious they had Covid in the facility, but the facility did not have them them tested. They said they were treating them as if they did. The one nurse they had became ill and was unable to work. The owner during this time did not get a replacement nurse. The care of the 8 residents was left to two main caretakers working 12 hour shifts. First few weeks of my Mom having Covid, she seemed to do well. Her fever went down and she was eating according to the caretakers. The doctor was coming to check on them. My Mom took a turn for the worse the last part of April. I was on the phone every day with her trying to have a conversation and noticed a decrease in her mental ability to respond to the conversation we were having, until it reached the point where I was talking and she did not respond at all. My brother insisted and the caretakers insisted she was eating and doing well. This went on for a week and my Mom ended up in the hospital by the beginning of May with high sodium levels and being unconscious. The doctor had not visited the facility with all of them having Covid for 10 days. The hospital revived my Mom and was trying to get her to eat. At that point, my brother and doctors decided to put my Mom back at Golden View to see if she would eat more. They brought Hospice in to monitor my Mom. I called Golden View to try to talk to my Mom and was told I couldn't because she tested positive at the hospital for Covid. Seemed like they couldn't disinfect the phone after my Mom was on it. I do not know if they let other residents on the phone if they were still living and having Covid even though they were not tested for Covid. They never had all of them tested. They said they couldn't get tests, but my Mom tested positive for Covid at the hospital. At the beginning of May my brother paid another $6,500 to the owner of Golden View in order to move her back there. Because of moving my Mom back there and paying [name removed], [name removed] allowed my brother to visit my Mom in her room. He video taped my Mom and sent the video tape to me. The policy of Golden View was to not allow anyone to visit during this Covid crisis. Bur because my brother paid him another $6,500, he allowed him to visit. At the same time I could not talk to my Mom on the phone because she tested positive for Covid. My Mom died [date removed] from Covid. Golden View had only two caretakers during the time she and the other residents had Covid. There was no nurse. The doctor was not there for ten days when my Mom's sodium levels went up which caused her unconsciousness. Golden View did not hire extra caretakers to help with the extra work load with people being ill. They were not forthcoming with me with what was going on. I am now having to worry about my brother coming down with Covid. They said their policy was not to allow outsiders in there with the possibility of almost all the residents having Covid, but [name removed] allowed my brother inside to visit my Mom once money was paid. They did not get a replacement nurse once the resident nurse was ill. The doctor did not visit for 10 days. My Mom is now passed from this uncaring, incompetent attitude and I am grieving. Think carefully before you place a loved one there. You might be better off trying to find in home care. You can find in home care where they play bingo with them, help them color coloring books, play music and sing with with them and dress them in holiday attire while you keep them safe. At home! Safe from Covid and any other virus that comes along. If they pass, you have peace of mind you did the right thing. Whatever memory care this place provides, you can provide with appropriate help. You will not have to worry about wheather they get appropriate needed medical care, because you will know. Any information I found at about Golden View, I found out because of repeated phone calls with Golden View and appropriate resources. They were not forthcoming about giving out very much information. Do not put a loved one in this facility.
