Mom's Experience at Barclay

The facility administration was friendly and helpful when problems arose. Once Mom established some friends, her experience was enhanced. Plenty of activities and social hours to bring people together.

They have lots of great activities for the parents. Care is also good for those who need extra attention.

New Haven is now Barclay but haven’t noticed any changes.

Facility is clean, staff helpful and friendly, and the meals are good. My family member is very happy there. The residents are also welcoming and friendly and my family member has met many new and varied friends.

New Haven or as it is now known as Barclay has delivered to this date on All items they promised. All transitions are difficult but they have worked hard to communicate and to make sure she is cared for .

Would still recommend. Because things always can improve and the staff is excellent. The staff can only do so much.....

The hallways have deteriorated some. With the meals and dining they run out of things. Changed chefs 4 times. dinners are okay sometimes. Servers are good. I base the value for cost rating on dining, elevator not working. (They have two elevators and over the past year one has been down on and off for several months). 3rd floor hallway cleanliness and air conditioning hasn't been working. After my mother being their 1 year raised rent 9%. Would still recommend. Because things always can improve and the staff is excellent. The staff can only do so much. Change has to come from corporate.

Review for New Haven at Little River

Many improvements could be made in quality of care staff and meals. This is a difficult industry to staff, and I know management works hard to provide a positive environment for residents. They can't seem to find the right "chef" although they do keep trying. Residents complain about meal quality regularly.

So far so good. We have been in contact with them often from what is going on with my dad. But the experience has been good. Everyone has been mainly responsive, sometimes we cannot get in touch with them or have to wait a day for them to call us back.

New Haven practices what they preach

The facility itself is clean, inviting, and conducive to individual needs. The staff, in many ways, became like family because of their professional care and honest concern for my loved one. The food is excellent and I enjoyed many meals. The administrative staff is accommodating to individual needs and maintains a welcoming feeling tone throughout the facility. The maintenance staff is always making improvements and fixing any issues that arise. There is no question that the cost is money well spent. As for activities, there are many and appropriate. The staff goes out of their way to be inclusive. My loved one was in Memory Care for over a year and a half and I loved going into New Haven regularly.

Practically new building, staff willing to work with you, continuing care, good location. Even though this was for my brother, I would consider it for myself.

Nice place, but more expensive than expected

I would advise others to carefully investigate the cost of residing there. Our costs rose from $[removed]K in 15 months, while their needs have pretty much remained the same.

Unqualified staff and corporate changes make this place awful

My mother has been living there for nearly 2.5 years now. When it opened, the place was (and still is) beautiful. But to be honest, the way the corporate office manages the community is absolutely detrimental to the residents. Office politics seem to be at play in personnel changes and the quality of care and the food especially is horrible. After the first ED left, who was wonderful, responsive, caring, and committed to the quality of the community they have now placed [name removed] in that role. She has zero experience, does not return phone calls, makes poor hiring decisions, and knows nothing about resident care. The Director of Sales is her best friend. And the Resident Care Director is not a nurse. In fact she is not even a CNA. They have let the staff that are trouble makers run them ragged. The food has been terrible for some time. They promoted a director of Culinary Services that doesn't bathe and cannot cook anything other than cafeteria food. All for show.

Memory Care not wonderful

Assisted Living seems to be fine here, but look elsewhere for Memory Care. Staff is hardworking and caring, but overworked. Layout is terrible. Very dark & depressing, not enough windows or natural light. The courtyard is good, but can get very hot. The food in Memory Care is not varied enough, or very nutritious IMO.

Not good

My mother in law had an appointment last [date removed] to tour the facility with her husband and my husband along with myself. Something came up and she could not make it so she asked that my husband and I go in her place. My husband contacted [name removed] first thing Monday morning, [date removed] to let her know, which he did not speak to her but left a voicemail. [name removed] never contacted him back. On [date removed] my husband and I showed up to New Haven 10 minutes early for the appointment that was scheduled at 11 am. [name removed] was unavailable but would be there, which was fine because we were early. We continued to wait till 11:25, we decided that with the lack of concern for a potential tenant that was a good sign to leave. We have found that River Park has the concern and care needed for her and her husband.

New Haven, not greatest senior living

Totally bait and switch. We toured and the best of the best was shown and promises where made about the staffing, the quality of care, the extended services, how the executive director was always available if issues arise. Mom lives in the independent side of this community, granted it’s independent, no additional services provided unless paid for, we understand that. But the sales person, talked up the call bell feature within independent living. But, it was only for something serious and New Haven would call 911 as per their policy after checking on the senior who pressed the call bell. It’s drilled into your minds as you are touring, moving in and during orientation. So, Mom had a fall in the bathroom and pulled the call bell. And waited, and waited, and waited. Nobody came… she started crawling on the floor in excruciating pain to the living room to call 911, and me her daughter. According to several staff members, this community call bell system in the independent side does

Review for New Haven at Little River

We picked this community, because it was good on paper and during visits. Close to home, and the Director is wonderful. I would say that it's a pretty community. Sales team and director are great. Food is inadequate and quality is subpar. Aide staff is average; facility is understaffed(like everyone else). [name removed] is in AL and doesn't really want to participate in social activities, although many are available. If they could improve the food and follow through on some items promised, it would make clients much happier

Our tour of New Haven

We toured New Haven at Little River and it was okay. I would rate the tour a 4, but the actual facility I would rate a 2. The tour was nice, but not the Memory Care unit. The Memory Care unit was smelly, had a jail feeling, and not where my loved one needed to be yet. They were insisting that my loved one had to go into Memory Care.
