My observations.
Staff is friendly and overall did a great job. But my wife needed more of a one on one assistant. It seem to be understaffed .

Tour was good, brought mom for a meal prior to moving in, food was good;salad and spaghetti. Move in nightmares: Menu, non existent, nor posted. Mom and others have been fed frozen fish patties and undercooked French fries twice in 1 wk, frozen pizza for dinner 2x in 1 week, mid day snacks; go to the "snack basket" which it's memory care; residents won't remember. Some kind of koolaid/juice is beverage served each meal. No milk unless I was there to request it. No water, paper plates & cups for serving food/ drink. Maintenance: Move in day for mom, mentioned the need for closet doors latch, baseboard needing to be re-attached... as of today, nothing done. Dishonesty; lies about shower,laundry/linen days, resulting in my giving 2 showers/both of only linen changes. Housekeeping; I cleaned her room for 2 hours prior to moving her and her things in. No weekly housekeeping. I have had to clean visibly soiled toilet and rinse clothing, had to ask to have room swept and mopped.

This is difficult. The Landings managed the facility when my husband moved in. I would have scored them high on all categories. Since Northern Oaks took over I have been considering moving my husband even though that would extremely difficult for him. I know there is a labor shortage but the management has made so many procedural changes that are affecting the care of the residents. The best caregivers have left. There are usually only two people on duty and frequently one of them is the cook. The caregivers are struggling to keep up with their responsibilities which is made more difficult because there's no longer a process for communicating from one shift to another each day. My husband's bathroom is not cleaned regularly. I AM NO LONGER NOTIFIED WHEN HE FALLS. He has Parkinson's and fell 39 times last year but since October I haven't been notified by them. The wonderful registered nurse is no longer there. The LPN on duty now seems to have no understanding of dementia or Parkinson's and has not attempted to learn about how to care for the residents. She has ZERO compassion for the residents. Several residents have moved to other facilities. I would not recommend Northern Oaks for anyone. I would be interested in finding another place for my husband.

We had a good tour and I really liked the facility, it was just not the right fit for my mom. There were no activities and it seemed dark with not a lot of community space. I think it would be a great fit for individuals who liked to spend more time in their room rather than out and about with others.

The worst facility for clients. They keep changing there website. Not once did I witnessany outings, picnics, on-site musicians, excerising, etc… There is no spa or salon it is a closet with no ventilation. No employees stay, or wear name tags. What red carpet treatment ??? Pricing leave seniors with no money left over at months end which is against Anoka county standards. They are now hiding behind a “place for mom”, “jaybird management”, which all 3 places have very low reviews. Run as fast as you can everything the tell you about this place is literally a lie!!

I would have wanted to know clients are the truth about this facility. The truth is employees treat clients very poorly and none of them wear name tags. The food is not up to anyones stanards due to needing to hire a cook with knowledge of cooking. It is a lot of sandwiches or pizza delivery which isn’t her approved diet. Staff is deceitful and can not be trusted. There is no maintenance man. All negative reviews are removed from the site. Clients are being considerably over charged. Turn around in staff leads not having enough staff at all. Especially at night time. Most employees treat clients rudely and have no patience. They offer no activities, meal planning , no extras. I would not recommend this facility to anyone as they offer little in providing quality care.

This community was not as updated and did not have as many amenities as the one community that we were really looking into. The memory care unit was also not as focused as what we were looking for.

Ruth Thorud is enjoying living at Brookdale Blaine. She loves that the facility is small. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

In the search for an appropriate place for my Mom, "A Place For Mom" was helpful, in that they took our information and made several appointments for us to check out. It was during that experience that I gained the knowledge about the kind of place that would be best for My Mom, and that being one that is smaller and had a more 'hands on' approach for her care. That is why we chose Brookdale Blaine for her, and so far it is working well. It is soon to be sure, she has only been a resident there for a little over 7 days. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Wonderful staff. Small facility allows bonds to be made, and each resident get the help and attention they need.

The meals have been really well proportioned out and the chef is great at making sure there is a range of healthy options for my loved one. Her bedroom and bathroom is kept clean and trash is taken out throughout the week. The staff have been a huge help with doctor appointments and making sure her transportation is taken care of.

I have only good things to say about Sterling House. My experience has been great. The staff and the care they give is great, the service is good as well. They always go above and beyond in all they do. My mom is 98 years old, and I've seen a marvelous change in her attitude here lately. She's making friends and enjoying herself, which she didn't do in other places. We are very, very, very satisfied with Sterling House.

I was very pleased with sterling house of blaine. The employees were very friendly, helpful and ready to help when needed. My dad was there for about 1 month sadly my father passed away on july 25th. My dad really liked the aides and joked with them alot. We were told that they really liked my dad as well. I would be very happy to refer anyone to the sterling house of blaine.

Only 19 bedrooms with private baths. The community is like a family.

One thing is that I really do appreciate how friendly the staff is. The food is pretty marginal. There are outside areas for residents. Parking is a bit problematic. One thing that I think is really good is that there are only nineteen residents – so it’s a small community.

I was very impressed with Sterling House of Blaine. The staff was eager to help and answer any questions that we h ad. The rooms are very personal not like a nursing home. To me it seemed like their very own apartment. Although Dad has not been there very long I think he will really like it once he gets settled in.

When we had a chance to visit the Sterling House there were a few things that stood out to us, we likeed the more homey feel to it. It was very small with nine men/women and the friendliness from th residents and the staff made it more comfortable to what we were looking for.

My father-in-law is not happy with his health situation, but he says this is the best place for him. It's small enough so he knows everybody.
