I would say to keep their eyes open and you will see the red flags. If you feel uncomfortable with something make sure it's something you and your loved one can live with.

Dad loved playing Bingo. And he won a lot of times. I think he disrupted the "normalcy" with all of his winnings. He enjoyed the Happy hour. They always had a themed event and gave the residents who wanted it, a couple of small libations. He did not really like the food, but having a European background, that is not relevant for most of the residents. The staff was very accommodating. For example, they stored a BD cake overnight for him. They sent me a video of the party. Things changed dramatically when he got a UTI. It affected him badly. OPV is not responsible for that. We moved him to the high level care and it was outstanding. If we (my brother and I)had to choose a place for dad, we chose OPV again.

We chose Oak Park Village at Slidell because of the cost, the cleanliness, and cooperative administration and staff. Nursing/medical staffing has had lots of turnaround so has been inconsistent

The staff and administration were very kind and helpful. Communication, for the most part, was timely and generally good. The facility could use some updating and it wasn't "white glove" clean, but it is probably on par or at least comparable to any other similarly priced and positioned facility. I was really impressed by the amount of activities and amenities available to the residents and how nearly everyone, from employees to residents, all seemed to be smiling and happy. Lastly, their bedside manner when helping us with mom's passing was greatly appreciated as they were all very respectful and empathetic. Many of them went out of their way to give their condolences and to honor mom by placing flowers in the dining room as a way of saying goodbye. Those actions meant a lot to me and my family and we appreciated their efforts very much.

Based on the experience we had with Oak Park, I would recommend this community to other families. Although I don't think I will use them again for respite as they raised their price from [fee removed] a day to [fee removed] .

She didn't like it so she left. It was decorated nicely though. Very homey. Even though it wasn't good long term solution for my Mom, based on the experience we did have we would recommend Oak Park Village to other families.

The staff at Oak Park Village are very nice. They have always answered my questions and worked with me to resolve any issues. I have noticed, however, that it's hard to get information on how often they are actually checking in on mom, who is in the memory care wing and should be getting more frequent checks than the assisted living side. They don't keep a visible log of the times they've helped her with bathroom trips or just general safety checks, and there always seems to be confusion on when the last time she received a shower, which is concerning to me. The housekeeping is average. The trash is always emptied, but the bathroom only seems to get a cursory wipe down, and I have swept her floor myself more than once due to crumbs or other small things on the floor. I can't speak to the quality of the food, although it looks good. My mom says she doesn't like it, but based on appearance, it seems to be good. The move in process was fairly simple, and the administrative staff were very helpful in getting us through the process. I believe Oak Park is on the higher side of average for the type of facility it is. The residents I've encountered on assisted living all seem very happy, and they are all very engaged with the activities that Oak Park offers. It is as expensive as any other like sized facility, and if you can afford to have private paid care for a loved one, Oak Park is a decent choice.

We visited a couple of places and one smelled strongly of urine and the residents were either lying in their beds or sitting in wheelchairs in the community room. Oak Park is nothing like that. We feel 100% confident that she is cared for, and more importantly, safe. We have no concerns that she is being abused as can be the case in these facilities. Her apartment is comfortable and has a sense of a real home, not a hospital room or medical facility. The staff is super friendly and keep the residents busy. I've gone there multiple times to play bingo. My mother has made friends and they look out for one another.

Choosing against natural support was one of the hardest things we decided as a family, but Oak Park has given us the opportunity to be family again. Seeing how much the social experience and consistency has saved my grandmother's life is priceless. As a social worker, I see a lot of cutting corners and low budget service. You never have to worry about integrity or quality at Oak Park!

Oak Park Villa was great and very accommodating. Everyone there is friendly, welcoming and they came up with personal plan for father-in-law. Based on our experience so far we would recommend this community to other families looking for a place for their loved ones.

Definitely come check out Oak Park Village. It's a great option in Slidell to place your family member. The staff do a good job with my mom, who can be difficult at times with her mental challenges. They have lots of activities for the residents. The facility is clean. I have no complaints.

They are probably THE most helpful and I feel so much for these people. They've been outstanding; they are extremely friendly, helpful, and warm. They do everything they can and they go out of their way to try and make things happen, and to be able to take care of your loved one. Not only that, but once they are there, they are extremely responsive and quick to help you deal with any situation that's come up - whether negative or positive. I can not put into words how appreciative I am for everything they've done.

I wouldn't recommend the community to others for their loved ones. We had some problems, most of them was around communication. Anytime I tried to reach out to my loved one, they had to transfer me to the nurse station and the nurses we would let us know that they would call back and it would take several attempts to get back to speak to our loved one. The communication overall was bad. The food was terrible as well. Half the time the food was served cold. The taste was dry and bland.

The staff normally kept the community very clean and they were all very friendly. Oak Park Village was well worth the price tag for the care that is provided to the residents. They always had activities like bingo available and even regularly took the residents off-site for various outings. My dad liked the staff at the community very much and they all treated him very well.

I moved my Dad here about three weeks ago and at first he didn't want to stay. After visiting with him everyday for a couple of weeks, and him settling in, he now really likes it. He is making friends and participates in activities and loves bingo. The staff has been great, very friendly and extremely helpful. I now feel comfortable leaving him there with no worries. He wanted to be independent but have help available when he needs it. He loves the food which is prepared by a professional chef. He hasn't missed a meal yet! This is the best place for him. I would recommend it highly as a great facility. I also like that it is a small community and has a great inviting atmosphere when you walk in, and my Dad feels at home.

My mom was in this community for about 6 weeks and 2 hospital visits later we took her out ASAP. I was really clear on 2 things that she couldn't have milk and she needed her food cut up and neither happened. The aides here are not trained enough. There were so many [Removed] also like the medicine she was to take at night to help her sleep was being given to her in the AM. They never encouraged her to get out of her room and this could've been the issue by the wrong meds given. And also she had 3 different blood pressure pills to be given in am and she was given 2 in evening time. She had a rash and they didn't communicate that to me now here skin is almost breaking there. All the activities that are on the calendar are all lies none of that stuff went on a daily basis. I wouldn't recommend this place.
