Our Family’s Experience with the Artisan
I can’t start this review without noting how helpful “A Place for Mom” was for my family. We wanted to find a place where our once independent family member, who had lost a spouse a year prior, would find more social engagement and activity. This family member was always active, but losing her life partner unexpectedly was a devastating change that affected all aspects of her once active, fulfilling, and busy social life.
[name removed]from A Place for Mom spoke at length with me on the phone, asked what I was looking for and the towns I was interested in, and I immediately focused on the Artisan. There was another contender that I intended to investigate, but after stopping into the Artisan on whim as I drove past, I knew immediately it was “the one.”
Despite just wanting fliers and more information, I was immediately introduced to [name removed], who was very warm and welcoming. There was zero pressure from her, only sincere, helpful suggestions on how I might proceed. She was instrumental in making me feel less intimidated and scared about the big change of life on the horizon. She had many suggestions that helped us significantly --from how to approach the move with my family member (who was resistant because change is hard) to expectations for the first several days/month/year, to simply letting me know we would be in a partnership to make the move as easy as possible.
I scheduled a tour with the family, and the Artisan was extremely accommodating as there were 5 of us. It was a laid back, friendly hour+ where we learned about the activities and offerings, were shown the common areas, and toured many apartments. We ended with dinner, which the Artisan paid for, and it was phenomenal. It is important to note that they do not have cooks, they have CHEFS. The food is outstanding and is part of the monthly fee.
We moved my family member into her apartment in June of last year. There was definitely an adjustment, but the Artisan truly stepped up when she was struggling despite her independent living location. They would go to her door to get her for activities so she didn't feel intimidated by going down alone. This is just a minor example of how much they care and how important it is to them that their residents are happy where they live.
The staff--from waitstaff to those who work the desk to those who run the activities--are equally as impressive. [name removed] runs the Artisan with the mantra, "You do not work where they live, they live where you work." It is imperative to him that everyone feel comfortable and that there is a sense of home. The people who work there genuinely like what they do and the residents they work with. You can feel the positive energy when you walk through the door because the Artisan is a happy place. [name removed], who works the desk, gives me the best hug every time I see her and truly looks out for my family member. She loves what she does and it shows.
There is a vast offering of activities, which was important to us as my family member’s memory was failing due to lack of interaction. While she definitely doesn't take advantage of most of them, she is a regular at daily happy hour, dinner, Bingo, concerts, and movie night. She also loves to sit on the front porch on hot days and to eat on the patio when it’s warm. Another perk to the Artisan is that there is no assigned seating for meals and the waitstaff, who are extremely attentive and kind, do not accept tips no matter how hard you try. So while it has that restaurant feel, it’s still very much like eating at home.
We are fortunate that my family member can afford the price of the Artisan but truly feel we are getting what we pay for. We also appreciate that they offer both assisted living and memory care on site, in case either are ever needed. It is an upscale, beautiful facility that is a far cry from the “nursing homes” of the past. This is an active community where residents can be as engaged as they choose to be, with on site daily activities and several monthly field trips. It is a place I could see myself living someday, and that is the best compliment I could give it.
My once-resistant family member recently had an appointment with her doctor where she admitted, with another family member present to hear, that she loves living at the Artisan. This family member who had never spent a night without a companion present, who had checked out of life because her best friend was gone, is now living independently and flourishing again.
We credit this to the Artisan.

I sleep better knowing Mom is at artisan
My Mom, at 96, is very happy there. Very modern, bright, and well decorated. Facility as has many "independent" living tenants so there is an excellent mix of lifestyles. Local police, fire, and hospital respond very quickly to any urgent care need.

Just Like Family
Artisan at Hudson is small enough so that everyone knows each other while being large enough to provide a multitude of fun activities. The staff genuinely cares about each and every resident and they become an extended part of your family. The facility is always clean; the food is delicious; and everyone is friendly. Moving in isn't downsizing -- it's upsizing!

The staff makes the difference!
From the initial meeting and tour through the re-visits to move in - the caring and engaged staff made this decision easy for my parents. The Director is fully engaged and visible as are the department heads. In turn, their example is emulated by the entire staff and as a result, my parents are not just comfortable but are receiving personalized care. The facility is outstanding and there are similar facilities available but here - the staff makes the difference.

Since day one Artisan has been outstanding. Great staff, great services and wonderful care ! Food is very good and wide variety of menu options. Always a quick response to the needs of the residents. I would recommend Artisan to anyone who is looking for their services.

The Road Less Traveled
How people respond to the unexpected is, often, a measure of who they are. Do we become frightened? Do we become anxious? Do we make clear and measured choices based on experience? Getting to that moment when we can no longer deflect or deny that a loved one is on the often dark and disconnected journey of Alzheimer's is one of those moments. We are no longer merely making choices for ourselves. We are deciding the months and years for someone else -- the "other" whose life has been intwined with ours ... whose future we must place in the hands of someone else. Each story of how, in Frost's poetic words, we take "the road less traveled" is different. For those who, at the point of decision are prescient enough to select the care provided by Artisan at Hudson, there emerges a sense of completion; a feeling that this team, this place, this program is going to make the unknowable days ahead better. A wonderful community
Artisan is a great community with a lot to offer. So much going on, lots of freedom and flexibility to tailor the day to each individual resident. The care and family like atmosphere is a blessing. On site therapy, doctors and transportation to what isn't on site. The dining room has restaurant style gourmet food selections and is open all day! They have daily happy hour, walking club, book clubs and so much more. Great place!

Happy with our choice
It is very modern, fresh looking facility. Has a hotel like feel. The apartments here are much nicer than other communities I toured. The food at the community is really good. But for people who eat plain basic food, the menu is limited. The meals are like dining out, which is not who my Mom is. The staff members are great.

Service and especially the food are improving
Service and especially the food are improving even after rent increase. Changes in staff were many but we finally have a new director (the previous one was terrific but she quit for supposedly having too long a commute) and he seems likeable.

MAYBE the place for a healthy Independent Senior
The Artisan at Hudson MIGHT be OK for a Healthy Independent Senior...IF they enjoy real-life guesses + mystery (i.e: How many more days will this same salty soup be served? or “What part of our contracted Resident Agreement will be changed this month?”) and IF they not have high blood pressure, diabetes, special diet, or need much attention. The Artisan has not prioritized resident needs over making a profit if you check their Dinner Menu, you can decide if you can afford it. Communication is POOR = On the past THREE holidays a special meal was advertised, then changed literally at the last minute as guests were arriving “because the Executive Chef "didn’t know/wasn’t prepared for it”! When current Management changed our original signed Residency Contract, we were told if we didn’t agree to their revised contract terms we could move…so we did! Some residents couldn't physically make the move, so they are now in a difficult situation with unmet contract terms.

Came highly recommended by neighbors, food is great, apartment has high ceilings, lots of light, it's own patio and washer/dryer. The newest, nicest and one of closest we visited. I would recommend to others.

Artisan at Hudson is a community I would recommend to friends for their loved ones. I think they could do better with the activities and communications of the activities. The meals are like eating at a restaurant.

Artisan has a culture that treats tenants like subordinates
I have been a resident at the Artisan in Hudson, MA, since their opening. In that time I have witnessed many physical malfunctions (i.e., heat, lights, etc.) a rent increase of 6%, and an attitude from kitchen staff that they don't have to match the food with the description in the menu. WE ARE PAYING FOR A PRODUCT DESCRIBED IN THE MENU; THEY ARE NOT DOING US A FAVOR BY SUPPLYING IT. If you enjoy being subordinated, this is the right place for you. Tonight I ordered a dish descried in the menu as containing 5 scallops...it came with only 4, and I pointed the discrepancy and was told they did not intend to make good. If they ever do produce the missing item I will tell them what they can do with it.

Memory care needs help
Seems like memory care is segregated from the rest of the community. When we moved our loved one in we were told it was one big community. Seems like they cater to IL and AL They have wonderful food and dining for them. Memory are does not get the same quality even though we are paying the most to live there.some management has acted unprofessional to the point of telling some people I’f they don’t like it there then we could get the f out and she would have boxes to help us pack! OMG

Think Twice Before Choosing Artisan
If you’re considering placing your loved one with dementia here, RUN! The corporate and management team have no compassion or care for the memory care. Out of sight, out of mind seems to be their motto.

So far we love it!
My mother moved into Artisan in [date removed]. She was very resistant to moving. Artisan was the sixth place we looked at. The full kitchen, dinning room, risk assessments, laundry in the unit, sensors in the units, friendly staff and possibilities of podiatrist, hair dressers, med delivery, walk in shower, and nurse practitioners in her apartment have only added to our satisfaction with our choice. I can’t recommend highly enough. They have lots of activities too but my mother is not a joiner.

Pretty Facility, Needs Help With Staff
I think the facility itself is fine if you were putting a friend or family member in the independent area. If you were thinking about the memory care wing, I would not suggest it. Management is really good about saying hello and how are you. The aides in the memory care unit are unskilled people sitting around on their cell phones. I don't see a lot of interaction between the aides and the residents in the memory care area. If a manager turns a corner, they all jump up. If no manager, they are all sitting around.
