Review for Bradfield Terrace
And honestly, for what we were charged, soiled laundry should of been as needed.I would tell them to look for themselves, the staff, for the most part, was wonderful, but their hands were tied on what they could do. Mostly, I felt I was being charged for services he was not getting. I understand housekeeping was once a week, but you call me and say you're charging more for daily, you don't leave soiled sheets and blankets out, smearing the mess onto the carpet and making the whole wing smell. Office staff was NEVER on site or available for calls.

Our Experience
This facility is for a person of a family who may be looking for a quiet place to live in which they will not have very much interaction with the community and only want to participate in a few activities at the facility. They should enjoy being indoors and maybe taking short walks around the facility. The new resident should not be a foodie and also be okay with sitting at an assigned spot for meals to keep the peace. This is the perfect place for a person who has a hobby that they love to do and if they have a pet to love on they can bring them along too. I do not recommend for a person taking a lot of medication or who has severe medical needs to become a resident there. There are no medical staff at the facility and the CNA's are not advised to call the ambulance when residents fall. The facility is clean and the staff can be very friendly. The administrative staff mainly visit with the tenured white residents, so we did not have much contact with them. For outings, only the tenured white residents are taken. Although it's not stated, there are quite a few Alzheimer's patients who are residents there and the staff have not been trained to handle the behavior they may exhibit. The facility will take residents as long as they can pay, but there are not enough staff at night to manage all of the residents (2 staff to 45 residents). At meal time they have ran out of food several times or ran out of bread when serving sandwiches to the residents. A lot of the residents order food outside because the food is not good. There is always plenty to drink, but no cups. We did not have a good experience with Bradfield Terrace. They are a facility strictly to make money and not to make sure that elderly people are being provided for by their new community.

One of the things I liked was the facility occupancy was small and I feel that gives my mother more one on one opportunity for care activities etc. Also, the level of care is 0 through nursing home meaning she wouldn't have to move to another facility as she gets worse. Housekeeping is wonderful, laundry services are included. Communication with the family is great. They have a newsletter as well as family night where family come and visit and do activities. Overall, the quality of food is good. Occasionally on the weekends, they might just have a hot dog and chips but that's very seldom. Just the other day they had a breakfast buffet that was lovely. Also, nursing is wonderful. My mother had an issue in the middle of the night and the nurses called me at 2:00 a.m. to inform me what was going on, which was greatly appreciated. I would highly recommend this facility along with the caring staff, the focus on dementia and the small amount of residents (other facilities that I toured were way too large) as well as cost. I'm extremely happy with where my mother is at.

A place that feels like home!
My loved one is currently a resident at Bradfield Terrace and most everything has been great for him so far at this facility. The staff is very friendly and caring. My loved one isn't wild about the food, but he is picky. I would maybe suggest hamburgers as an alternate instead of the sandwich. When I have been there, the food smelled good, but I haven't eaten anything yet. I would also suggest not moving someone in on the weekend, especially when they have Alzheimer's. Overall, it's a nice facility and I would recommend them to others!

A warm place that takes care of Mom
My very first encounter with [name removed] at Bradfield Terrace, the first thing she asked me was 'how is your mom and how can we help her?' When I visited other facilities, the first question they asked me is ' how many other places have you toured?' My mother is not a product to be sold or bought and that is one of the reasons I went with Bradfield Terrace. They genuinely care. The staff is wonderful. Housekeeping is done regularly. Communication with the family is good, they also have a newsletter. Overall, the food is good. Weekends tend to be sparse for meals. The facility has a low number of residents, which I personally love. Everybody knows my mother on a personal basis. I love Bradfield Terrace. I would recommend them to other families.

One of the best in the area.
I think Bradfield Place is one of the best if not the best in the area - and I looked everywhere - except when it comes to visitation. You have to knock on the door and wait for somebody to come and let you in. They won't give you the code, so sometimes you have to stand out in the rain or cold until someone can let you in. That is something that needs to be addressed immediately. But the staff is great. They're very friendly and very cooperative. And I think they're truly concerned about their residents.

Don't Go There
I wouldn't recommend the community to others for their loved ones. There was four directors in less than a year and a constant change over of staff. Due to these changes the meals aren't what they were in the beginning. They will only pick up trash once a week from the resident's rooms. There is no place for the resident's to carry their own trash out to dispose of this either. This is a big issue for the residents that have incontinence issues. Another big sticking point is they don't have any staff with longevity. The community is on the smaller side with 54 rooms. This was attractive at the beginning and now I'm thinking otherwise. If there is an issue with the care, the nurse will call back quickly to speak to me. If there is an issue with the community overall, and I reach out to the director it will take much longer to receive a response. In fact I've been waiting over a week for a return call from the director about a concern I have, with no response from them. The meals are mostly pasta being served to the residents, I believe. My loved one would like additional options to choose from. for meals. There are some activities available for the residents to participate in. My loved one would like to see additional and a variety of activities offered. The family used to be able to have the security code to come and go in the building to see our loved one. Since the COVID protocols we have to wait for a staff member, which takes a long time for them to let us in due to them being short staffed overall.

Home Away From Home
We originally went with Bradfield Place as it was the most cost effective. Now that my friend has moved in, it feels like family. The other residents treat my loved one with care and are very friendly. I have only heard good things about the community from others. There was some initial confusion on the bathing schedule, but this was resolved by putting my friend on a specific schedule. The community is assisting with bathing, and medication management for my friend. The monthly fee includes the apartment, laundry service, utilities, three meals a day seven days a week, and housekeeping. There are staffing that are available 24 hours a day. Some of the activities available are bingo, outside groups coming to visit, and more for the residents to choose from. There is a wall calendar with all the activities for the residents to see. The food is enjoyed by my friend and they compliment all the time. There is a veteran's wall that includes pictures and stories of the residents to share their experiences with others and honor them.

Not so good place for mom
I have recommended this community but at this time I am not happy. They are short staffed and they seem to be having issues keeping my mothers meds in order. The executive director is great but very inexperienced and there has been a lot of turn over. The only activity that I know of at the time is Bingo. During the tour this was my first choice, it was convenient and in a good location.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Texas regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Texas regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored Bradfield Terrace 8.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
