A great option for your loved one

I particularly notice the upper leadership is very kind and caring. They have an open door policy to meet with you and talk through any issues and go above and beyond to accommodate your needs. The accessibility of the on site Nurse Practitioner is a wonderful benefit. I think the activities and outings for the community are superb and they really cater to their residents.

Brookdale Highlands experience

Brookdale -1. The worse experience I have ever encountered in the five months my mother was there. She was asked to leave because of her Alzheimer's aggitation. She was unhappy. The food was an embarrassment there. Untrained staff who in the weekends were on their phones the whole time. She is now in a deluxe memory care that is fantastic. She looks healthy , not one ounce of agitation there doctors decreased her medication).

Total Contentment

My brother and I toured several assisted living homes for our mom and we felt Brookdale was superior, by far, for many reasons. My brother jokingly said the Brookdale director paid $5 to many residents for them to come out and be friendly. We didn't get that at any other place ( and she did not pay them, by the way). The staff, within just a short while, knew my mom and even us! The staff is so sweet to all the residents!! There are always so many activities for the residents to enjoy. It's actually hard now to reach mom on her landline as she's always out of her room enjoying being with other residents in one of the lovely screened porches or the gazebo, if weather allows. The temperature in the common areas is nice for the residents and they monitor the heat in their own apartments, to their liking. The main thing that swayed my brother and I about Brookedale's staff is that they have nurses there all the time that really work with my sister ( mom's medical power of attorney) to monitor her occasional issues (UTI or ear wax buildup) as well as her daily medicines, etc. The staff really could not be any nicer or accommodating to mom - like when she oversleeps and would otherwise miss her noon meal, which is their main meal- they have taken her a tray. We are thrilled with how mom is treated there and how much she likes it there ( food too!!)

A Grateful Spouse

Accessibility to the on site nurse. Everyone made a point to call me by name. Promptly answering the door. Most were willing to help with messes

Like a Family

My daughter and I were pleased to find a facility as nice as this one for my husband’s care. Brookdale staff is friendly and caring. They call clients by their names and are upbeat. They have a good time while working around the clients. And they decorate the public rooms for the holidays, just like being at home. It’s a very comfortable place with something for everyone.

Brookdale Highlands review

My experience was not great. My mom liked the place ok. Food was alright. The staff only seem to check on her when I was there, according to my mom, this was true. This was an assisted living situation; she got very little assistance.

My opinion

When I first got here I didn't want to leave my home. Care was spotty. After a few months. Things gradually got better and I made some friends. The staff is very friendly. The care improved. The food is up and down. Overall I do like it here.

Just nice community. Nothing is perfect but it meets his needs and then some overall good place.

I like the size of the facility. It's not too big now too small. They seem to do their best to get people engaged. Unfortunately with my father-in-law, he can't hear very well and he can't see very well so he can't really be included in bingo or any of the games that they play. Of course, that is not their fault that's circumstances. The only thing he really complains about is how long it takes to get served on the meals.

Moms place

The staff is really super friendly and seem to know the residents well . My mom really likes the facility and the staff and activities. I have been to numerous assisted living facilities and have never found one as nice as Brookedale.

Review for Brookdale Highlands

I've made no bones about our experience at Brookdale. They failed to let it be known there was Covid in the population until there were 14 cases. Had we known we wouldn't have eaten meals in the dining room. My husband caught it and was hospitalized where he almost died. He's left severely disabled. The tech response was often nonexistent. The food was cold and unacceptable The nurses were hard to contact Some time after we left, I was contacted by a person from corporate and I told them how disappointed we were. In investigating various other assisted living facilities before going to [removed], I learned they are thousands of dollars more expensive No I would not recommend Brookdale

Not a place for your loved ones should they become sick while living there

My Dad passed but not before losing a foot to the incompetent care of Brookdale Highlands. They left him in bed for a week and half while he was sick and he developed bedsores. I had to send my father to hospital myself after I was away a week and found him not eating and just left in filth in his bed before as they claimed they were assisted care and they don't supply nursing care, so they just left him there.

Our Experience

My loved one is currently a resident at Brookdale Highlands and overall the experience at this facility has been good for her. The cleanliness and friendliness are great. The staff and care services are good. The food is the biggest complaint and it has never gotten better - no seasoning, cold when it is supposed to be hot, you have to sit at the table for about a half hour before it is served (they bring out one plate at a time).

#1 in all categories. They've changed management and head nurse since we've left there. Hopeful things have improved

Disappointed

My experience with Brookdale Highland has not been good. They lack staff. It is an extremely poor value for the money. Cleanliness is just ok-my loved one was there 30 days before they changed the sheets and swept the floor. My loved one needed assistance and pulled the call button; it took 20 minutes for anyone to come. I am currently seeking some where else to move my loved one.

It is great for dementia care as long as the person has no other physical problems. My wife also has cancer. They struggle to cope with that. Room sizes in memory care are adequate for the needs. Amenities offered are good.

Review for Brookdale Highlands

The walkthrough presented a much different picture than reality. Felt we got snookered into buying a really bad timeshare. We were not real pleased. Floor coverage was minimal at best. My mother-in-law would sit for hours waiting for her needs to be addressed. Weekend coverage was almost nonexistent. When we would call it would take hours for a callback, if we got one. When we went to retrieve her personal items the room had a bug infestation. They wanted the room emptied out as fast as possible so they could get another victim in place. They were relentless in trying to get their money. Quite an interruption to grieving. All just part of the Brookdale money vacuum.

Review for Brookdale Highlands

Lovely welcome. Helpful. Clean environment. When calling a tech for tv problems, he came right away and fixed. Food. Very poor. I had to watch my sister-in-law try a bite of food that was made for her. It was too stiff and two dents, and she started screaming and crying because she was scared and it stuck, she cannot eat it. It's stuck to the roofer her mouth and she does not have a tongue to help her with that, she was hysterical. No help for a few minutes. Eventually, the food was taken away and never brought back with any alternative. Luckily, she had something in the refrigerator that she could eat as she was really really hungry. Apparently after I left, they brought the same thing back to her for dinner. This is unacceptable. Please look at her orders. Please puree her food. If it can mold into a form, it's too dense and too hard. You must get this right. The aid left with the food said she should be back to, and talked to the kitchen. We never heard another word she never came back. Unacceptable
