Caring staff, good value, would recommend
I rated 4 for cleanliness based on this being the home of many people who were no longer focused on neatness. If I viewed this as a hotel the rating would be lower. Cleanliness declined for a period in 2023, but the person doing the cleaning in 2024 (I stopped going in July) was really good and consiencious.
Only ate there a couple times. Food was plain but fairly good. Able to judge mainly on appearance. Glennis refused almost everything; a manifestation of her dementia. Brookdale tried very hard to find things she would. Fair success for breakfast, not so for rest of meals. I had found one Lean Cousine meal she would eat and provided a copy of that every day for her lunch.
Were fewer activities than I originally expected, but I may have been unrealistic. [name removed] declined to participate so I can't really evaluate.
I'm very impressed with Wuesthoff Hospice - both with the care they gave [name removed] and with the follow up grief counseling available to me.

Review for Brookdale West Melbourne MC
I picked this community, because of the size of the facility and the cost. Other places in the area were too big with hotel style features and I think my Mom would feel lost in a place like that. Also, the cost was reasonable as I really didn't want Mom in a State run facility.I noticed was that in the beginning of the process they kept in contact quite often. Once I made the first payment (which they posted incorrectly), no one wanted to return calls which I found unprofessional.

Great Community
They are not able to handle a person with physical limitations (like wheelchair user needing help for bathroom). If the patient can dress and use the bathroom in their own, this is a great memory care facility.

They were extremely understanding and willing to work with us in a difficult situation, including flexibility on move in dates and assistance in the overall process. We picked this community, because of the cost primarily, services and expertise available for memory care patients, and location.

Basics But Very Good
Small community. The staff seems to be caring and friendly. The overall quality of the community is good and I am please with the care provided to my loved one. My loved one doesn't really like any of the food due to my loved ones taste changing, I wish they would do a little more to help find items that my loved one will eat, however this issue has been improving and I have been bring in food as well. When I had ate there I thought the food pretty good though.

a nice community and may meet your needs
The staff were all very friendly, the administration was lovely and the sales gal we mostly dealt with was one of the main reasons for choosing Brookdale West, she was just adorable. They were all responsive and we knew going into this that we picked this community based on the price per month and that we might not get that same level of care our loved one previously had at a different community. However we ended up moving our loved one out mostly due to the lack of cleanliness. We did not feel that they cleaned regularly or enough. They lost a lot of our loved ones things and we know memory care residents are unpredictable but we had previous experiences with other communities and that was never an issue.

I really enjoyed our tour at Brookdale West Melbourne. They did a very good job and were my number one choice. It was my mom's decision though, and there was another place she felt was a better fit for her.

Our tour experience
We had a virtual video tour during the height of Covid. Virtual doesn’t really do the job very well. It wasn’t that they didn’t do well. It’s just hard to tell. On the video tour, the residents seemed to be isolated on their own. Maybe they were doing what they wanted to be doing, like sitting by themselves in the garden. Or maybe it was to show social distancing. But the people at Brookdale were very helpful. They went over what a typical day would be like for the residents, and there was another facility we looked at that seemed to be more engaging for memory care residents. My loved one was still in rehab at the time, and the doctor was a lot more pessimistic than how things turned out. We ended up not needing a facility, but Brookdale stayed in touch periodically, and were very friendly.

Very Friendly and Helpful Staff
Watch things really closely in the beginning, because the squeaky wheel gets the oil. They didn't have enough people helping my loved one, and he had many falls before anything was done about it. Care was definitely lacking at first, but they hired a bunch of people, and care has improved so much. The new staff are really friendly, and they do their job. They are being trained right. It's also always clean when I go to visit.
