Seaton at Ocean Grove

The Seaton at Ocean Grove is beautifully located face a lake and blocks from the Ocean. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The building has an old charm exterior but the rooms inside are spacious and updated.

Peace of mind

Finding the appropriate assisted living facility is a difficult endeavor. I visited several memory care units in the area and The Seaton stood out for me mainly due to the feeling I got walking through the front door. I was happy to see there were not a lot of residents hanging around in wheelchairs as I entered. The building is old but nicely updated and very clean. The person that provided the tour was very informative, patient and caring. My sister made the move and settled in quickly. She felt very comfortable and safe from day one. The staff is attentive, understanding and pleasant to deal with. I feel so fortunate to have found a place where my sister feels at home.

Hopefully improvements were made

My mother moved in there April 2022 & all was fine, but around May of 2024 the new Director was horrible and has since been let go. Overall it wasn't a good experience. I actually move my mother out of that facility in July of this year, but sadly she passed away in September It's difficult to review since it was under different ownership when she originally moved in. The new ownership at the time was not too good or accommodating, but that was several months ago and perhaps they made changes. Hopefully they improved.

Downhill

Not enough staff poor communication not accessible to family to check on loved one. Sometimes NO answer when I call. In a year multiple trips to hospital due to falls plus a broken hip. Poor quality of food -cheap and redundant. Facility is not clean especially common areas such as lobby kitchen and grounds. Elevators and electric doors are nit working properly. Multiple changes of “management” who promise to make things better and improve quality of life for residents and their families. Recreation social events frequently cancelled. Long term staff are exceptional but outnumbered by the task at hand.

Great place for seniors who want to keep their independence

What we like best is the independence they encourage . You can walk in & out if able it's not locked down like most places. & that it's in a beautiful community close to the town beach & great views. Seems activities are being decreased lately. Not enough staff to coordinate. However summer offers many free events in the community that they take advantage of busing the residents to. There is a $[removed] Sign on bonus that's being offered as well for new residents.

Review for Seaton Ocean Grove

We left there. My mother was in the lock off due to dementia. That community can't focus or unable to participate due to their Dx. However, from observation of those who had free will enjoyed the activities, and surroundings.

Refuse to refund unused money

My father had a balance of over $[removed]when he left Allegria. They have stalled for months in returning the money. They even wrote a check on a closed account. My father was in the memory care unit. A resident named [name removed] was seen a several occasions in urine soaked pants. The aids sit and look at their phones. No activities in the memory care wing.

The staff is friendly and helpful and there are plenty of activities you can sign up for.

It is hard for my to judge, because my son doesn't say much, he is 60 which is one of the youngest clients there. However there are a lot of activities, but he doesn't participate in many. He does enjoy going to church, he gets his medications on time, he can walk into town nearby. There are bus trips he can sign up for that will take them to Shoprite, Walmart, etc. There is also bingo, exercise classes, puzzles, and art classes that are available to those who want to participate in.

Beware

This facility care is little to non-existent. My parents laundry and mail packages disappeared. Allegria kept my parents personal money that was supposed to be used for their personal shopping. My father died there one month after he arrived of Covid, after being fully vaccinated, and they have not returned $[removed] money promised within 30 days. It is now more than 3 months. His death certificate (nurse) did not mention Covid so had to be changed by a doctor 3 days after his death.

This community is not what they say they are... my experience was horrible. They didn't have a doctor but kept mentioning that they have a doctor starting in a few weeks. No doctor care for my relative for 2 1/2 months. I had to remove my relative and place him in a different community. This was such a horrible situation; my relative had to be hospitalized and has passed away.

Respite Care

It's located in a nice neighborhood. The rooms and accommodations are nice. The staff are friendly. The professionals are helpful. We would have liked to see more fresh fruits and vegetables and a more balanced diet. And for memory care, I thought they needed more organized activities, perhaps led by a professional like an OT. But I have nothing terrible to say about Allegria, We had an okay experience.

My experience at Allegria at Ocean Grove

I suffer from an over-active bladder and have terrible experiences in relation to that illness. My doctors prescribed me a medication that helps and he ordered it Thursday and I have yet to have it dispensed to me. So between then and now, there should be some results but there has not been. They are giving me the run around about a drug that I was on before and it really works. Other than that they do a good job in the other areas of care. They have recently hired a new chef so I think the food service is going to be improving - we have had some good dishes so far. [name removed] and [name removed] the activities coordinators are excellent and always keep us busy, they are really well worth it and we are blessed to have them. The bus that normally takes us to places is in the shop right so we are without transportation at the moment but it is being worked on. Once that is up and running, the value for the money is great here.

It's very nice, my brother is adjusting. The bus has broken down and we are ready for that to be fixed. They usually provide transportation for shopping and church amongst other locations. It's a nice location by the water. He enjoys the variety of meals. He likes that its quiet. He gets outside and walks around the building. Independent living is on the 4th floor. They have a large room where they can sit and watch the view. The residents are nice and friendly. The staff is helpful. He has adjusted well. They provide them a alert button necklace for safety.

Community Tour

Our tour at Allegria at Ocean Grove was fine. It seemed a little more institutionalized, and we just got a better feeling about assisted living places that were more like apartment living. We also found better value for the cost.

Would NOT Recommend It

My loved one was in the memory care unit. And the conditions and the support were subpar. The staff in the beginning were better. But once we got my loved one moved in there, not so much. There was a tremendous amount of turnover. The medical attention was lacking. I actually pulled my loved one out of there within a short period of time. I would NOT recommend the facility.

Good for loved ones and people who are more active and want to take part in activities

We weren't able to be there a lot for the meal times but what we could see the meals did seem adequate. Our loved one was not able to participate in the activities due to their health, so we aren't sure what all they offered. What we could see of the community and other residents they seemed to be really happy and active, but on the memory care side there is only so much engagement you can have, and to put covid on top of everything it was just not as stimulating of an environment as the assisted living side was.

If you can only afford a studio apartment, it's not an apartment, it more just a room (only speaking of the memory floor, did not see others)they are crazy to small. Only a twin bed and one small chair can fit. But other than that it's clean and everyone was very nice. Again, I didn't see Independent or Assisted Living apartments.
