Affordable, caring place but not the Hilton

Getting the place through you was great. It was easy to set up a tour The place is ok. Clean but a little run down. Asking them to do something is a challenge. The reception/phone staff needs improvement. The staff are very pleasant and seem to care.

Management Is Caring and Accommodating

[name removed] is an outstanding Director. He goes above & beyond and does an outstanding job. My husband was bothered by the sound of the LIRR trains that run 24/7 next to the facility. My husband's room faced the tracks so perhaps other side of the building would be better. They put a small air conditioner in his room which was extra.

Overall a nice community

Everyone is friendly and really works with me especially [name removed]and [name removed]. They arrange for her doctors visits and transportation there and back and always with her favorite aides. Everyone is super friendly when I call and they know me. I think it is very reasonable for the price.

The new homestead

Over all the staff at Homestead are very attentive to the patients. They joke around and check in on patients often. the staff is very accommodating, quick to clean up patients. Not one experienced with staff having bad attitudes. Our biggest gripe with Homestead is the facility is old very, very old. It is in need of multiple renovations, a complete gut job. The rugs are horrendous and reak of urine. The window are old. Also wheelchair patients cannot use the front door because of the stairs and must wait to be let in thru the locked side gate. Which limits the patient from going in or out freely. The sitting room chairs need to be completely thrown out, they are filthy. One honorable mention is my relative was hospitalized 3 weeks and was very worried about the items in his unlocked room. When he returned everything was still in it's place. So i would think the staff is trustworthy. So would i recommend, yes, i would recommend but i'd suggest getting your own room.

The New Homestead provides a comfortable, caring environment

The housekeeping staff is very approachable...when we requested different curtains we got the curtains that worked well for the room. When we asked about extra physical therapy when insurance would no longer cover, we were directed to the agency that could work with us on a two or three day basis, out of pocket of course but right at the facility. As we do not have much experience with assisted living, I am sure the Homestead offers much more than I am even aware of. It would be nice if there were a few more aides on the weekend...every residence must deal with that issue.

Not recommended

My loved one was a resident at The Homestead. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this facility to others. The facility needs an upgrade.

DIRTY & STEALS MONEY - DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT

Do not want to give this place 1 star. [name removed] was great at first until my mother arrived at the facility. No one on site to discuss her necessary medications, the establishment was dirty, the handrailing's in the hallway were coming off the wall. No one came to bathe or give her food. This establishment was such a disappointment, which we expected to be a relief. This establishment was unsafe for my mother which she needs 24/7 care. By Sunday, we took her out. We paid $[removed] for a 3 day stay. We requested a refund from [name removed], he stated he had to pay rent and blocked my number. This experience was so unfortunate and despicable. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONES TO THIS Establishment!

Good experience. My friend is thriving.

The overall experience with independent living at The Homestead has been good. My friend who lives there is thriving with all the activities and is gaining weight.

The Homestead

I just have to say how impressed I was at picking The Homestead as a place to put my mother due to her dementia. I would recommend anyone that has dementia to live here. The people that work there are exceptionally nice and very caring. I felt very comfortable and trusted them taking great care of my mother.

Tour experience

I did not like The Homestead when we toured, when we walked in it just felt like the residents were in prison. It had a dark and depressing atmosphere and the rooms needed some major updating. The facility is is a nice area but there was also not much room inside or outside for the residents to roam around.

Staff is great!

Being out of state I have never seen the community but the manager (possibly the head person, I'm not quite sure on her title) and the gentlemen in charge of sales was extremely helpful to me in the beginning. The process was difficult and they truly made the transition easy. I do feel like the staff takes good care of the people there, and I do feel like they are always extremely helpful to not only the loved ones their, but their families as well. Our loved one says the food is okay, but they are more used to pizza and fast food, so I am sure they are not used to the healthy eating.

A smaller, family-run establishment

I think overall it's a good facility. It's certainly one of the better ones for the price that we visited. However, in the two years or so we've been there, I haven't been able to be inside that often due to Covid. THe lobby is now run down. It seems like it needs a little more care and attention. I don't think that they're I think they're doing as best as they can. My loved one can be very difficult. But I feel like they need to be much more hands on in making sure laundry gets done and making sure the room gets cleaned. I 'm sure my loved one says nonono and sends them away, but they need ot a little more involved. The staff are so nice. They're very freindly whenever I call or am able to come by. I find them to be very attentive. Everything has been harder since I haven't been able to go in before Covid. I found it was easier to help facilitate getting things done because my loved one trusts me and would allow them to help her more with me around.

New Homestead —Safe & Caring

I can imagine how hard the process is to find a place for mom or another family member in the times we are in. I highly recommend the New Homestead as a very safe and caring placement in these difficult times. My mother lived at the New Homestead for the last five years of her life. I will be forever grateful for the care she received there. Mom was very well cared for and loved the place. As her needs changed over time the New Homestead was always creative and flexible in providing her with the appropriate continuum of care. New Homestead did an amazing job when Covid hit. They responded fast and with an ongoing diligence in protecting their residents. Mom was kept safe from Covid there in the heart of Queens - Kew Gardens. The New Homestead is a unique place in a great neighborhood where everything is within walking distance. Everything Mom needed was available at the New Homestead but we enjoyed walking around town or going to the parks near by when I visited. The building, a converted historical hotel is small compared to other adult facilities. It’s not overwhelming in size. It has a nice old fashioned homey feel and a really nice garden where she liked to watch the world go by. She had a beautiful private room and enjoyed the bright sunny dining room. She liked the food. The relationships and communication we developed with the staff was excellent. She lived so many good memories there. She had wonderful friends, great caretakers and great times. The activity director is excellent. When they could visit many community members were invited there; entertainers, musicians, school children, art therapists and various religious practitioners. Residents took fabulous day trips to cultural venues. Times do not permit these activities now but excellent care continues.

Nice Run Community

There are certain things I liked about it. My loved one complains about the food, they say that it is the same thing over and over again. The taste isn't there as well. I'm not sure how often the house cleaners are changing the sheets for my loved one. [name removed] is very nice and she is the one who runs the community. Due to COVID we are paying the same amount that we were prior to the pandemic. All my loved one is getting is three meals, sitting in their room, or in the outside garden. It is a good thing they are being cautious on the pandemic in my opinion. Everything is an extra cost. I've been told that the medication is given at 7 pm and then the residents aren't allowed to come out of their rooms. The community is in a very pretty area.

We would not recommend The Homestead community

The only staff member that was professional, helpful and knowledgeable was the receptionist, they were amazing. The other staff members would be a three out of five stars, we felt like at times they were very condescending. We did not have a good experience with this community. The food was not good, it was very dis-satisfying. Some of our loved ones clothes were stolen by other residents. We did not feel like we got our money's worth. The kitchen staff would be a one out of five stars, one day our loved one found a fly in his food. However, for his doctor appointments they were good about communicating to us what time his appointments were and when he was going to be picked up. The location is the only thing we liked about this community. It was in forest hill and it wasn't to far from where we lived.
