[name removed] is a force!

My fiancé was at Inova Hospital and needed to go into an independent living situation for reasons too complicated to say here. Last minute and without an appointment, [name removed] showed me a beautiful 2 bedroom apartment and gave me a tour of the facility on a Friday. We decided to take it on Sunday. She brought the signing documents to us in the hospital on Monday and she, [name removed] and [name removed] moved mountains so we could move in on Wednesday. After a traumatic diagnosis, he has his independence, and I have peace knowing we are supported with delicious meals, housekeeping & social activities. We really love it here. Thanks to Team [name removed] at The Virginian!!

Outstanding Care and Compassion at The Virginian

The Virginian is truly an exceptional senior living community that goes above and beyond in every way. From the moment you walk through the doors, you can feel the warmth, care, and respect that the staff shows to every resident and family member. The facility itself is clean, beautifully maintained, and designed to make residents feel comfortable and at home. The caregivers are attentive, patient, and genuinely dedicated to ensuring that each person’s needs are met with kindness and professionalism. What stands out most is the sense of community and compassion that fills the entire place. The staff takes the time to get to know each resident personally, creating meaningful connections that make such a difference in their quality of life. The activities are well thought out and engaging, promoting both physical and emotional well-being. Meals are nutritious and delicious, often shared in a setting that feels more like a family gathering than a care facility.

Impressive, professional, complete

When we lost my dad we lost part of my mom. After caring for my dad for so long she had to focus on herself. After months of being alone she decided to move across country. We toured a number of places but when we arrived at The Virginian, my teenage daughter and I knew this was it. Unlike any other property even from the entrance. The gorgeous chandelier and clean smell off lavender took me to a place of peace and comfort. [name removed] was truly amazing and made my daughter and feel like we were the only people in her world. She described the Virginian in a way I could visualize my mom's new life. The Concierge Club is what she deserved. It cannot be matched. She has personalized service from every staff member. They know her name. These people treat my mom like their mom and that makes her apartment, home. With exercise classes twice a day, outings with new friends, happy hour every afternoon and dinner with more friends every night my mom gets up happy with plans every day. Saved her life

Peace of Mind and Flexibility at The Virginian

The Virginian has undergone a multi-million-dollar renovation and is truly an exceptional community to explore for your loved one. We recently visited and met with the sales representative, who was extremely knowledgeable about the community, its offerings, and made us feel very comfortable throughout our visit. We especially appreciate that The Virginian offers all levels of care within one community, providing flexibility and peace of mind for the future. It’s also a rental model, which means there’s no large upfront investment like many other nearby communities require. After visiting many options, we feel confident that The Virginian will provide the right living environment for our mother—and give us comfort knowing she’s in a wonderful place.

Don't Use The SNF

My mother stayed here for three weeks after a hospitalization and it was awful. The floor in her room was sticky for the first two days. They did not give her pain medications for the first 24 hours. The staff and doctors were completely unresponsive and I could not get a call back from a doctor for the length of her stay. Everyone I spoke to promised to call me back and no one ever did - it's like they knew they were not going to call back but shamelessly lied and pretended to care. I would NEVER send a loved on here.

Our family experience

My mother loves it there. Staff went above and beyond to welcome her . Facility very clean and offers everything she needs. Meals are outstanding and plentiful. Most importantly, doctors come to the facility and handle all her needs including lab work. She was worried about locating and getting to doctors, but they come to the Virginian.

A place where Dad feels safe and valued

It is like a big family at The Virginian. My dad is involved in many activities and enjoys the residents he had met. At 94 years young he is very happy with his new chapter of life. It has been a true blessing to our family. One thing I would like to add. We love to use the library when we come and dad's grandchildren, and great grandchildren come. I would like to inquire about starting a children's section in the library.

Review for The Virginian

This is a for profit facility. Rates go up 8 % annually. Memory care is great but expensive. Its a nice place. The staff are very kind. I have learned a lot about assisted living organizations, and if I had to do it again, I would definitely find a not for profit place for my parents.

Wonderful choice for your family

Very, very kind. Everyone. I've been really pleased with all staff. Can't talk to the skilled nursing or memory care, but the rest of the staff is wonderful. I 100% recommend The Virginian. Best place that we looked at. It's beautiful after all of the renovations.

The staff with which I interact on a daily basis is great! I am in independent living and my apartment is cleaned weekly. Because I am independent living, although certainly there is need to have a contact person, there has been no need for the facility to exercise that "need" in the year I have been here. The meals are good. Portions are good. Certainly there are times/items that are not quite what I wanted/expected, there has be no situation where I have returned a meal nor filed a complaint. This was the first place that my family and I visited and we concluded there was no reason to go further. I would recommend The Virginian to others.

We toured this facility during our search for an Independent Living facility for our loved one. This facility was initially our second choice, but then my loved one was sent here for rehabilitation and it was an awful experience. They are remodeling there; it will be very nice looks-wise but not friendly and not good care. More costly too.

The Virginian

The renovations are way behind from what they represented during the sales presentation, food is disappointing. My father passed away while there and the assisted living staff took excellent care of him. He was only there for 30 days. I would absolutely still recommend The Virginian to others, The people here are wonderful. Just a tough time with all of the renovations.

There are have been a lot of transitions in staff and new construction inside building. The dining room has been under construction for a year. The new chef is trying to improve the overall quality.

This community is great for me … I cannot guarantee that for everyone. Everyone here is friendly, the location is perfect for my current needs, and I don't believe I am lacking anything that I would expect the community to provide. I would recommend to be sure to know as much as you are able about what you want. Read all of the literature from any potential communities before you visit. Ask lots of questions. When visiting, notice ALL interactions between staff and residents and residents and residents.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Virginia regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Virginia regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored The Virginian 8.2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
