Very friendly people and staff is excellent

The cleanliness is good, no problems at all, the staff is excellent, there are one or two things going on everyday. Everyone's friendly, that's for certain, if I didn't mix well with some people there are plently of things that go on that are nice for the elderly, and I realize I'm one of them. This was the one that was closest to where I was living at the time and I wasn't feeling all that well. I don't know if they actually provide care, but they're very attentive to people and their problems and check up on people who need help. I would say it's a little expensive for what I'm getting, I'm a loaner and I feel sort of out of place here, but I'm comfortable.

My experience

We went to tour this community and after making an appointment there was no one there to meet us at the community. The person we spoke to was nice. We went on the weekend and when we arrived the office was closed. What we saw of the community looked nice. They say they offer quite a variety of activities.

They talk a lot about all the things they will do when they are "selling" you into the place, but then when you are there it is a continuous effort to try to get them to actually DO those things (laundry, medicines, bathing assistance). Usually there is some excuse about staffing issues, but it definitely gets frustrating. Some staff were wonderful and kind, others not so much. We eventually gave up on having them do medicines, because they were always messing them up. It is funny to me that they have a picture of the pool up, because it seemed like it was always out of order.

Care for a friend

This is the community is a little older. They need to improve the cleaning. The meals are appealing. They do have activities for those who are able to participate. I think that community could use a little up dating. I have recommended this community to friends for the good care and the value.

Friendly Staff

The magnolia Manor of columbus is a great place, but in terms of cleanliness, I am not sure if it's included or not. The staff is very friendly and caring though. The value is great as they are less costly than others nearby. Care services is great and activities are great. I have a friend that stays there and he seems to be happy there.

Not as many activities as there used to be

Their assisted living was really expensive and really depressing. Now, their independent living apartments were nice, but she was really out in the middle of nowhere. She was there for 30 years and when dad was alive they were really active, they did a lot of volunteer work but when dad died she just stayed in her room. It was good, but things have changed. Most of the people she was friends with are gone now and they used to really have a lot of activities and they just dont anymore. i don't know if its a money thing or what, but she just never did anything.

Have had a family member here for the past few months. There are staff members who are awesome but they do not outweigh the ones that are not. You know how some people light up a room? Well there are ones that bring darkness. I've had the good fortune in the all my working years to only work with one person like that but it was enough to recognize it when I see it. It's worse when those people are in a position of authority and you can watch them suck the life out of even their good employees. I don't visit often but every time I'm there, I can tell the difference before I see if this person is there or not. Nursing homes should do a better job of paying attention and making sure the people in charge care about the patients rather than being the king or queen of their little domain. If your family member is in their right mind and can stand up for themselves, maybe Magnolia Manor is okay. If not, you better have a family representative who lives nearby to be their steady advocate, otherwise, I'd look elsewhere. I'm not the one who makes these decisions for this relative, but I can't see this particular nursing home as a permanent solution for anyone based on our family's experience. I wouldn't choose it for myself or any family member based on what I've seen.

Not the best place for value

My family member is here and has had issues trying to get things done. The activities are limited, if at all. The staff are not helpful, the maintenance guy always seems to be "busy" and has an attitude. The food is really good but other than that we're looking to move her to another facility. My family member was active before she got here. She wants to go somewhere else.

What Would Jesus Do?

WOULD JESUS DO THIS: 1. Observe, watch a patient become ill, refuse to notify family until they realized that death was eminent? 2. Have a rampant, nosicomal infection on a wing that sent several residents to the hospital BUT families were never told that this problem exist. 3. When the request for Medical Records were submitted after my father died from a infection, have their attorney call and ask me why did I want them. My dad was a resident of Magnolia East for 32 months. He was having repeated episodes of falling at home and the skilled nursing care he needed couldn't be provided at home by my mother nor me. After a fall that resulted in an inpatient hospital stay, his providers informed us that he required a level of care that we couldn't provide at home. Sadly, MM said that they could, BUT CHOOSE NOT TO. SEPT 2018 my dad and his roommate were both taken to the ER the same day, both had an infection; dad died in less than 24hrs.

Do NOT Take Things At Face Value

The facility at Magnolia Manor is lovely, however the staff seems to be more in the mindset that they are strictly a retirement community. When we took my father to live there, none of us were certain how he would do. It took some time to get him settled in, but we then realized he needed more care than just what the "retirement community" was offering. (Keep in mind one reason we selected Magnolia Manor was they assured us dad could "age in place". As his needs changed, they could handle them) This was NOT the case. At their suggestion we did move dad to their second level of care. Again we were assured their professional staff could and would work with us and dad. That did NOT happen!! The staff was often reading the paper and when I would ask anything of them they made it clear I had interrupted them. If we had wanted babysitters, we would have hired babysitters. We were paying for professionals. Quickly moved dad AGAIN!! Poor guy! He is now at a competitor and doing much better! The difference in the staff attitude and training was amazing! If we had only known! We could have saved ourselves and dad a lot of frustration and grief!

Terrible

Not enough staff and the ones that are there on West 3 are always behind the desk not tending to the care of the patients. I've had a loved one there and there were falls where her bone in her shoulder was broken. They pencil whip there paperwork . Some have nasty attitudes. My loved one also got staft infection from there. Also was dehydrated. I absolutely hate that place and the state needs to be called in ASAP!! My loved one is no longer living and im quite sure nothing has changed. Also they leave the residents that are not bed ridden in the bed and di not get them up if they're in a wheel chair. If you have family there please check on them as often as you can please .

RUN WHILE YOU CAN

My father was not very well taken care of here, and as a result of Magnolia Manor's alleged negligence, (which was specifically listed on death certificate as significant contributing factors to causes of death) my father passed away due to complications arising from the staff at Magnolia Manor leaving him unattended for extended periods of time. At one point the family complained regarding the lack of care and the severe uncleanliness of his room (there were used gauze pads all over floor, garbage had not been changed out in a couple of days, and no one was sure when the last time his bedsheets had been changed or when he had been given a bath last. After my father passed, I repeatedly tried to contact the records department, in order to request my father's medical records in an attempt to find out what exactly happened when my father was found unresponsive with a dislodged trach and finally got tired of waiting for a call that wasn't coming, I made an impromptu personal visit to the head administrator of the facility, Mary. Mary, who was just a peach to deal with (I'm being facetious here), absolutely REFUSED to reveal if the facility had received any complaints, concerns or comments in recent weeks, and became very nasty with her attitude. She then explained that when medical records are requested, the facility must provide them within 30 days and that the records must first be sent to corporate office to be approved for release, then sent to the company's attorneys who must approve the records for release and finally the records are sent to the requestor after the monetary fee of price/percopy/per page has been paid. After 3 MONTHS I still cannot get the administrator to return my calls (which I make twice a week and leave a message) and I still don't have my father's medical records.
