Our Experience
My mother was a resident at Amber Glen previously (April 2023). I could not recommend under former management. I found her room filthy more than once. They let one resident roam freely, stealing from other people's rooms-and they were aware. Activities were non existent after about 3 or so and not consistently any more than coloring or sitting in front of a tv. Only few of staff actually engaging with residents. Often short handed, so not adequate supervision and/or they combined those with severe problems with others causing verbal arguments and even a food fight that I witnessed. As for the food- usually good breakfast. Otherwise over reliance on soup and cold sandwiches - usually without lettuce or tomato or anything to make it look palatable. No call buttons. They use very ineffective motion detectors. Had many things stolen and/or misplaced. My sister or I went every day to make sure she was okay. Not much accountability as the Director, Head Nurse, Bookkeeper and Kitchens Manager were left or replaced within 2wks of our arrival. On more than one weekend evening there was a sub/contract nurse in charge of the whole place who knew nothing or no one- including the codes to open the doors. And get everything in writing- I believe we were unfairly billed based on the difference between what the salesperson told us and what we had to pay.

Beware. Dedicated workers poorly managed.
My loved one was a resident at Amber Glen Alzheimer's Special Care Center, but we have moved her from this facility. For my staff rating, I would rate the employees at a 4 and the management at a 2. I would not recommend this facility at this time. I would be extremely suspicious of anything their sales / marketing person says. I would say 90 percent was untrue-some purposeful and some not.

Very Caring
Based on the area it is one of the best communities around. However, they are starting to have staffing issues like other communities in the area. It was bumpy to start with; however, the community and staff worked with the family and things evened out very quickly.

We are very pleased with the care of our loved one is receiving at Amberglen. The care givers are wonderful, the facility is clean and has a lot of natural light. My loved one really enjoys spending time in the courtyard.

Meaningful Moments
I attended a luncheon at Amber Glen and was able to tour the facility as well. Lunch was absolutely DELICIOUS and prepared by the in-house chef, so those are some lucky residents!! The facility itself was very well organized, very cozy feeling, and I was very impressed with the dedication of the staff to create meaningful moments with residents. I absolutely loved the idea of the 'About Me' boards outside each resident's room!

Many clients have lived there
I have had many clients go to Amber Glen once they needed memory care services. Many of them had a very seamless transition into their new home and new routine. They received good care in a clean and comfortable environment. Amber Glen’s activity program is amazing to keep residents busy and engaged throughout the day. They offer two sets of activity programs, tailored to different levels of cognitive need. Staff seem to genuinely care for the residents. I would recommend Amber Glen to my family and friends.

Contentment
Our loved father is a recently new resident at Amber Glen. At the beginning phase, he had a rough time adjusting but the staff were patient and willing to work through the adjustment phase with Dad as well as our family. It is very difficult as a family to find a new normal. The staff are very friendly and are willing to answer phone calls when needed. Dad is not able to participate in the activities but they do try to include him in the front common area as often as possible. We are 21 days into his stay and I would recommend this memory care facility to your loved one.

My Grandfathers care
The care at this community is wonderful.We like that he is happy here. The menu is good and he is please with the healthy meals. The community has a good environment and we like knowing that he is active with the activities with the other residents. We would recommend this community for other families for the value and care for a loved one.

Unprofessional
I don't want to place the unprofessionalism blame on the entire facility. However, I think that a particular employee by the name of [Removed], needs to practice more on professionalism. She really disappointed me because she has a kind demeanor, but un professional. People who come in seeking a job deserves to be treated with dignity and professionalism. Get it together, [Removed]!

Working Out Well
This is good community, and my father in law is doing great since his move here. They are caring for him very well, and we are pleased with all they have done for us. All is well for us here at this community, and I would recommend it.

Not What We Needed
I was not impressed with my tour of this community. From what I saw it is more an independent community, rather than a memory care facility. Which is what I thought they offered. The staff didn't seem fit to care for Alzheimer's patients. I would not had felt comfortable moving my parents to this community. They would not had been able to provide care that I would be comfortable with. More so this is a community for someone who just needs light assistance.

Great place to consider in the east central Illinois area for memory care.
I first visited Amber Glen in mid-2016 looking for a place for my father who has memory loss. It appeared to be a friendly caring place for adults with dementia. I liked the staff and they greeted me warmly and seemed to interact with the patients in the same way. In December 2016 I again visited and now was urgently looking for a place for my father. On December 23, 2016 my Dad became a resident of Amber Glen. I visited the facility in early February 2016 to check on my father since I live four hundred miles away. My step-mother, my sister, my brother and I have all visited. We are all happy with the facility and the care my father is receiving. I spend multiple hours over two days there observing and interacting with staff and patients.
The patients have a lot of freedom to express themselves and do as much as they are able. Unfortunately when I was present my father was having issues with sleeping and had an infection but he was being well cared for.
I would recommended Amber Glen as a place to give consideration to when looking for a home for a memory challenged adult. It has the feeling of a home and not just an institution for very special adults.

Outstanding Care for dad
I like this community very much for the good care for my father. The facility provides physical activities and interactive activities to keep him engaged. The staff is outstanding. Pretty much satisfied with the care!
The staff at Amber Glen Alzheimer's Special Care Center have been very accommodating with our requests. My mother and I enjoy the food. They offer a variety of healthy choices. The shower room could use some additional attention. I have found on occasion that the toilet seats were soiled and used wash cloths were left behind on the floor.

The staff were wonderful at Amber Glen!!!
Mom was only at this community for a couple of days. My sister did not feel mom was ready for a community so she did move her out. I looked at various communities and this was by far the best place around. The food was excellent. The community is clean and I would recommend it to family and friends. I want to thank A Place for Mom for their assistance in finding this community.
