It was a little rough at first, but the care is better now.

It was a little rough at first, but the care is better now. It's definitely better than it was at the last place she lived. It's also less expensive. So we get better care for less money.

Clean and Nice

I think that they don't really have anyone in charge to make sure that things that are getting done. Everyone is very, very nice but normal things that should get done are not always done. I think they do exercises and birthday parties in terms of activities. It is an older community, and very affordable. Not as fancy, but very clean and the rooms are nice. My aunt is very happy.

Stay away

Stay away. They serve their residents cold food according to the resident's council during two separate reporting periods. They don't communicate with Healthcare POA concerning health issues or treatments and run a pharmacy scam with Partners Pharmacy.

Not the right fit

When we toured the Atrium Assisted Living we met only one person who gave us the tour. As soon as I walked in I knew it was not the right place for my loved one. I felt it was depressing and not as clean as I expected.

Review of The Atrium Assisted Living - Metairie, LA

We were not terribly impressed with The Atrium. Though the staff was warm and receptive they didn instill confidence regarding their capabilities. Also there was a strong smell of urine in the lobby reception area and the decor was dated and drab--some chairs were tattered with upholstery requiring repair. My husband noted a glass coffee table that may present a hazard to residents should they fall. Regretfully based on our visit I don’t feel this is the place for our loved one who has Alzheimer’s dementia.

Review of The Atrium Assisted Living Alzheimer's / Memory Care in Metairie, LA

40 yr building, not much outside scenery, however rooms are large, bathrooms were outdated cast iron tub would need a cut out for a walk in tub. Sitting & dinning area cozy with sunlight coming through like a natural court yard. Cost not to bad, however, only a 30 day term so price could rise every 30 days if they wanted. Friendly staff, fairly clean, central air/heat,emergency pull chord, stove/oven range and refridgerator. Room could use afresh up on paint. All & all not to bad.

This place is like being in the Twilight Zone

If you are looking for a facility straight of the Twilight Zone, this one is for you. I was mortified and disgusted. I felt so awful for the residents. Upon arriving, I was greeted after about 3 minutes with "you need something?". I was there for a tour. First strike. After entering a locked facility, with dirty keypad and door, we were led past the kitchen. At 3 pm and dinner coming shortly, the dirty dishes from lunch (complete with leftover food) were piled up on carts lining the hallway outside of the kitchen. Strike 2. All of the bedroom doors were filthy. The area around the doorknobs were brown. The bottom half of the door was layered with dirt, I assume from shoes. Strike three. I would be interested to find out what type of bacteria etc. is growing in this place, not to mention "other things". For daily activities, all residents were piled into a small room with a tv. It was warm, and smelled of body odor. The room we were led into so that we had an idea of layout, etc. belonged to one of the residents. Again, musty smelling, unmade beds, and disgusting. If there was a strike 4 and 5, this would be it. Could not wait to exit this place!!!

Long response times

It took a long time for them to get back to me so if that’s how they potential residents, I can’t even imagine how long it would take for a resident. They couldn’t answer any questions on even things like when the food was served.

Be very astute in observance

My experience started out fine, but went down after awhile. Their issue is being under staffed, and I think the Pca's are not well trained with all aspects of of dealing with dementia and Alz. this means taking the good as well as. The very difficult of all resident situations. They really need to have more compassion in their work. It's not there.

Tour of Lafreniere

I toured Lafreniere Assisted Living and Memory care, and I told my advisor with A Place for Mom that if you want to be depressed, go there. To give a little background: the property is not well kept, the grass was not cut, and the sign for visitors was covered with overgrown grass, so that was not welcoming. The person who scheduled my appointment was not there to meet me, they left. When I called to tell them I was running a little behind, they didn't tell me that the lady wasn't going to be there. When I got there, there was a random lady who gave me a "tour", and it was subpar. She couldn't give me a copy of their price range. She said, "you can't have this sheet, but I can copy the price sheet for you", which was weird to me. I didn't like it all, some of the employees were on their phones when they were supposed to be helping residents eat. I even called a friend and said my daughter is 13 and when I get to this point and if she mentions this place, please don't put me here. That's how impacted I was by this place.

No at all pleased!

Our family was displeased with care our loved one received at Colonial Care Assisted Living. He had been there for 4 years. Below is recap of review: 1. Asked aide to place meals on bedside table, not on dining table, where resident was unable to walk over to reach. This was done some time but not always 2. Resident was not changed every two hours as originally stated. 3. Almost every day he had soiled bed sheets to be washed but they were not washed until a set time giving room a terrible urine smell. Family member had to take home and wash because of smell. 4. Fell 3 times. 5. Asked aide to change bandage on his left arm which he injured when he fell from bed – no one ever came to change bloody bandage while we were there. 6. His room frequently smelled of urine when members of family arrived to check on him because wet clothing and bed sheets were put in a clothing basket and left there until the employees washed only on certain days. 7. On two separate occasions, meds were found that had not been taken a. One was on bookcase headboard b. Another was in bed sheets on another occasion 8. Found journal where last blood pressure taken was recorded in January 2015. This was in June 2017 when journal was found on side of the apartment range. 9. When visiting one Sunday, we found the resident’s bed was totally wet with urine, as well as all his clothing. My family and I changed it all. 10. 84 year-old resident was left to sleep on bare, wood floor all night because aides said he refused to let them pick him up. We do not know how he got on floor from his wheelchair. 11. Family was unaware he had not seen a doctor at facility for some time until family made an appointment for him to see a doctor outside the facility. 12. There were four different directors in the 4 years the resident was there. But in all fairness, the present director, [name removed], is desperately trying to run the organization better than the 3 previous had done. 13. No one in the family can recommend this facility to anyone who really cares about their loved one.

I have mixed reviews about this place. My aunt lived there and recently passed away. My issues were with certain aspects of this facility. The first is the bookkeeper, she has NO clue how to balance funds. At the beginning of every month there was always a billing issue, my aunt would send me to the office to pay her rent. The bookkeeper would NEVER leave her office to speak with me, she would converse with me through the receptionist who looked completely overwhelmed at times. The last time i went to pay the rent, there was a questionable charge so i went to the front desk and the receptionist went into the bookkeepers officr and told her that I wanted to speak to her concerning the rent, I HEARD the bookkeeper say to her FIND OUT WHAT SHE WANTS IM BUSY. So the receptionist had to walk back and forth between us passing messages for about 10 mins with my financial information being broadcasted. None of the caregivers stood out. The administration is really nice, i feel like she is there because she truly loves doing what she does. She's compassionate and caring and always walking around assisting residents.
