My parents lived here for 4 years. At first, it seemed like a good decision, despite a terrible early stint in "skilled nursing" (really bad care) after an operation. My parents' apt. was fine, my dad played pool in the atrium with friends while my mom walked around it. The food was at least edible. But every year, lack of attention to resident needs worsened. Broken washing machines went unfixed for months. Things that needed cleaning or replacing did without. Services got cut even as fees increased. No more free transportation—$75 to run errands or go to the doctor? The woodshop closed, ending my dad's hobby. Food got worse and worse—my folks sometimes threw dinner away, and once said, "We weren't even sure what it was." They knew how bad assisted living/skilled nursing were, so they moved to [facility name removed] before it came to that. The difference is night and day. Real care, real service, a real community. Yes, it's more $. And worth it. Seniors deserve better than The Groves.

Started out good three yrs. ago but now it has really gone down. Terrible food (mother has lost a lot of weight), can't get things fixed when needed(broken toilet for a week). I'm so disappointed and feel sorry for Mother. Need to find a better place.

I am not surprised by the reviews preceded mine since my first impression of the administrator, director of nursing, and staff was also favorable. However, after more than a year of up close and personal contact, it is more than obvious that the first impression was just a sales facade. On a daily basis, residents who are not mobile are allowed to walk/wheelchair around in visibly soiled undergarments that reek with urine/feces . This is compounded by the fact that their bedding (which is changed on an all too infrequent basis) also reeks of urine/feces. The smell frequently permeates throughout the hallways and dining room. To mitigate the smell, the rooms of these residents are frequently closed so that facility visitors are given a good first impression. In addition, there is also a severe shortage of sheets and, towels (contributing to the infrequent changing of bedding and showering of residents) and those that are available are frequently washed improperly and placed on residents beds with feces , urine stains, and odors which were not washed out. This is due in large part to the cheap detergent used, broken down washers, and far too many apathetic workers. Although the facility houses approx. 80 residents, staffing to ensure the safety and well being of these residents is approximately 1 LPN/RN ,and 1CNA per 15-20 residents. Numerous medication errors occur due to several identified unqualified nurses and CMTs which the administrator and DON refuse to fire. Housekeeping is a hit and miss and depending on which housekeeping member is working. More often than not resident rooms are given a cursory cleaning and the bathrooms are simply "sprayed" with a strong horribly smelling disinfectant to mask the fact the bathroom was not cleaned. Although there are ample shower facilities available, residents are often not given showers because per the responsible CNA "resident refused shower. Although there are several good LPNs RNs CMTs and CNAs who perform their duties as required, there are far too many who are apathetic, complacent, lazy, and only there to collect a paycheck. It is apparent that this attitude is the result of below average supervision and management and is reflected in the substandard care of the residents and up keep of their rooms. Desperately searching for a better facility.
