Great, Good and Bad

The Great: People, food and Facility The Good: Layout and Services The Bad: Assessment, Location and Continuity of Care If you are a person looking to place your parents, find a place with Memory and Assisted Care. Long Term Care Insurance does not help pay for Garden Way. If you are an older person looking for a great place to spend retirement years, Garden Way is Great! The staff at Garden Way did great job selling us on the place (an easy sell) but when Mom arrived, it was too loud, overwhelming size and we needed to relocate her within a week. She needed more care than was available at Garden Way. Learn from our mistake!

Review for Country Club Village Retirement Community

The price was the biggest issue. The size of the units, was also a determining factor, We have a cottage instead of apartment, they are about 1200 square feet and offer more privacy than apartments. Included in our monthly fee is one meal per day. We were offered a free meal as part of our tour. The food was very good. The kitchen is now being remodeled so there have been some issues but hopefully all will be resolved when it's finished. The calendar does not have as many activities as we were expecting, mostly mornings. Everyone seems very friendly. It's supposed to be for senior living only, not assisted living although I think there are some who have in home care. We are supposed to have cleaning every two weeks but I find it not very thorough, I think they are limited to how much time they can spend, they may be short staffed for the services they say they will provide.

Quality of Dining Experience

Cleanliness- sometimes surprised that there are dust balls on my mother's floor and pink growing in the bathroom. Quality of care - insufficient nutrition. Where is the 21 gm of protein at each meal, fresh fruit, etc. ? Dining- disorganized staff, long waits, wrong orders, running out of ice cream. Value for cost: would be higher if the kitchen woes were fixed. Paying a lot of money for insufficient meals and insufficient meal time service. Never thought I'd have to be buying my mother fresh fruit, yogurt, soup, etc to supplement her mail plan. The kitchen, food quality and dining service are the big issues.

Review for Marshall Pines Transitional Assisted Living and Memory Care

Marshall Pines was a good placement while it lasted and I was generally happy with Mom's care. Admin was responsive to my requests and concerns. My biggest problem was communication gaps between shifts that resulted in an unclear picture of her ADL performance, especially as related to her transfers.

Clean and excellent meals. High staff turnover and lax activities

The facility and resident room are kept clean. Hygiene of the resident is good. Meals are excellent. High staff turnover is concerning. The activity calendar is good but it is not always adhered to by the staff. On weekends, staff children are present and they distract the staff from resident care and raise infection concern. At admission, nursing agreed to aid resident in wearing a CPAP mask and to use a bedside potty at night. This has been difficult to implement consistently every night. Still waiting for the resident's room window to be switched from curtains to more sanitary blinds as promised.

Would recommend this place!

Mostly a good experience with a few exceptions. The cleanliness would be a 5 but it took housekeeping over a month to start cleaning our apartment. But the rest of building is very clean. The maintenance, motherwell caregivers, office and concierge employees are so attentive and nice and caring. 100% love these employees. Great service. The professionalism needs to be greatly improved with the Restaurant staff. We use Motherwell and have had a very pleasant experience. We have experienced being ignored or not being served. It isn't all the Restaurant employees but there are a quite a few that ruin the experience. I have even heard some of these employees cussing and yelling at other employees. These employee who treat the residents poorly makes the others look bad. The professionalism (as above) needs to be greatly improved by the Restaurant staff. Great selection of activities every day and every month. Great value for the price

Review for Central Parke Memory Care and Transitional Assisted Living

They were at a good price level for my mom. However, I would not choose them, if I had to do things over. The representative that I spoke with at a place for mom convinced me to not worry about her funds, I could place her somewhere else when she ran out of money. Upon looking at other places, decent facilities do not want to take a resident, until they have paid out of pocket for 2 years. I moved my mom, so I could choose where she would go , and not be forced into a facility that I would not want her . Transitioning into another facility, another move is difficult for memory care patients, so I would also not recommend a place for mom, due to my experience.

disappointed in caregiver turnoff (staff isn't the problem)

Lots of turn over. You find a caregiver you like and they are gone. The ratio is way too high per resident. The caregivers seem to be over worked. The staff is great and try very hard to make up for their lack of help. It's way too expensive for the level of care you get. But that seems the norm for these care facilities.

Our Experience

It's a facility, so personal touch/care is less than a home with fewer residents. Sometimes, mom's sheets weren't changed. Some times other's clothing was in her room. Her matched tops and bottoms weren't put together in the drawers. The quality of the care depends on the staff. When the staff would change, quality suffered. I took mom out of there in 10 months. I moved her to a house with a 5 women capacity. We love it. Mom's care is personal now.

Review for The Gardens at Brook Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care

They complain about the food always being cold. We picked this community because of the price. They have no activities and cold food.

Nice caring and engaging community

When it comes to the cleanliness there is a roach problem. For the meals and dining service they serve too much fried food, there needs to be more baked and grilled choices. Just healthier choices. The rooms are really small and the showers are really right. There is no room for a shower chair. Room for improvement when it comes to the cleanliness and the meals and dining.

Don't Judge a Book By It's Cover

My dad was a resident at Whitetail Springs for 2 months. When he first arrived he needed PT for walking, and everyone was very nice. I would visit him every day from 3-8. He liked it there. One day I went up and he could no longer move his legs to walk while sitting in his wheelchair, he could not raise his right arm. I mentioned it to the aides and no one got back to me. One day a got a call that my Dad had fallen out of his wheelchair while watching TV with the others in the TV room, they sent Daddy to the Emergency Room to be checked out. While at the Emergency Room the doctor ran different tests and told me he did not suffer any injuries from the fall, BUT the test showed he had had a stroke a few weeks earlier, that is why he had trouble moving his right arm and legs. Since my Dad could not feed himself after the stroke, even though he tried, sometimes they would let me feed him, but there was one particular nurse/aide that would not, she said because of COVID, she had me escorted out of the dining area crying, I was so humiliated, after that I brought food from home and fed him in his room. A few weeks later his roommate was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with COVID. When his roommate returned, I asked for Daddy to be moved to another room, they would not move him, Daddy had to stay in the same room as his roommate that had COVID. The cleaning lady Doreen keeps the facility VERY clean, it never smelled. There were a lot of nice good workers, Darlena, Kelly and Valarie to name a few, but the facility had bad management communication. One day the workers would let me feed my dad and the next day different workers would not. Same thing with his teeth and hearing aids somedays he had them in and others days he did not. The day he died they actually lost my dad’s dentures, even though I removed them the night before and put them on the top shelf of his cabinet. I wrote to the main office in Bend, Oregon about my treatment and concerns. Mr. Nassar told me that he made a trip to Pennsylvania, he met with Tara the Executive Director and Jennifer the Regional Director of Operations and personally addressed my issues. Which was VERY nice of him. I hope things are going better now. I want the facility to do good, my advice is to speak up, make a list of what your loved ones daily needs are and tape it up in their room so the aids know, don’t just assume. A lot of the residents did not get visitors, I went every day, some thought I came to visit them, they would join in with Daddy and me on walks and working puzzles. My rating is a 3, but if changes were made I would rate it higher.

it's nice but could use some improvements

My mom complains constantly that there is not enough to do Or there are activities scheduled and they get cancelled. She does not eat 3 meals ever there. So there should be a plan that lessens the cost for those who never eat breakfast, etc. everyone is very friendly . Sometimes older people are just crabby.
