My mother moved here recently and she is becoming acclimated. The staff has done a very good job of welcoming her and are very friendly. They could do a better job at breakfast.Sometimes the food is skimpy and they could offer more variety. Also, the existing residents should be more welcoming and encouraging to the newer residents. Sometimes my mom will go down to eat and can't find a seat because people have "reserved" them.

Disappointed. Frances Tabor - Resident/client

Disappointed

My husband and I have been at meadowstone less than a year. When we first came here, we really liked it. This is the 8 things that have happened that has changed our minds: 1) first, rates were increased......on rent, food, and housekeeping. ...ok that usually happens. 2) Next we had a very hard-of-hearing neighbor upstairs that put her TV on the loudest setting, and would not use her hesring aids...we reported it several times, and were told by the office that she would be spoken to. When we asked, when it continued, that she was hard of hearing, and that they certainly couldn't make her move....we never said anything about her moving, just that the noise level was extremely loud. She finally moved out. 3) then we were flooded by the neighbor beside us....maintenance told us that the man had admitted to leaving his shower running for about 30 minutes. There was lots of water, and hard on us having to move stuff out of the flooded area, which was an inconvenience. 4) One week later, it happened AGAIN...same neighbor, same story. This caused a lot of frustration, because NO one wanted to assume any responsibility for damage done. Most of the items that we had were in plastic, but an expensive sheepskin rug got wet, and began to mold, the cleaning bill was $101.++. It would be nice to be reimbursed for that. 5) The second time that we called, we left a message that it didn't appear to be as bad as the week beofre and it was a holiday on monday, so we expected to have maintenance on tuesday. Well, I was just getting out of the shower on saturday morning, when I heard someone coming into my apartment. Since I had understood that no one would come in while we were not home, not answering the door, I was very surprised to open my bedroom door a couple of inches, and find a strange man that was NOT one of our regular maintenance guys, right there...on his way into my bedroom/bathroom!. I was frightened and upset. I did not get any communication from the office, until I called to let management know that I was scared and upset several days later. I have not talked with a single person who said that they would not have been frightened! 6)Next, since we have the doctor visit us here at the complex, which is a great convenience, I had been in the room with my doctor for about ten minutes, the door was opened wide and a member of management asked if he was ready for the next one....she had a person who did not live here and her DIL. I was speechless! That is a violation of privacy! I would never, ever walk in on a doctor-patient, and quite frankly, don't know anyone who would! I called main office, twice! And left messages, and never received a phone call back. I had decided to not write a review, 7) but Friday, October 14, we had a flooded bathroom from faulty plumbing upstairs. This caused the linens in the closet to get wet along with bath rugs...pretty agravating when they had to cut a big hole in the bathroom ceiling to get to the faulty part...the ruined sheetrock that came down was black...black as tar...which says that there had been leaking for a long time to be that black. 8) my cabinets in the kitchen also had several places that did not get painted, and the fiberboard under the counter top was flaking off in splinters, and the cabinet doors were not closing properly. ( they still don't). The guys that fixed this problem did a good job. In conversations with friends and neighbors, we are being told that there is a lot of problems here....no hot water, no water pressure, etc. But, we do have really nice landscaping! I hate having to put this, but you said you wanted honesty, and this is all true. I have pictures, and will gladly answer any questions that you might have.

Review of Pine Ridge Retirement

Pine Ridge is a nice enough place, in terms of the facility itself and the attitudes of the staff. The staff is friendly and they do a good job keeping things looking clean and well kept. One issue families might want to look out for is that this community can be difficult to navigate for anyone who has any mobility issues. Getting to and from your room can be a problem.

We toured this community while looking into care options for a loved one. The Phoenix at Delray seemed like a nice enough place, but I don't think it was the best fit for our loved one. It was a large facility and I think it would have been too much for her to navigate. They were also in the middle of renovations when we toured, so it's hard to say how those will turn out.

Review of Serenades by Sonata - Memory Care at Longwood - Longwood, FL

I am little disappointed in this community. They are really good at selling the place, but not so good at helping you know if they can handle your needs. We had a big accident first day there and they still haven't followed up on taking care of our needs. I was also told they had a mentor system and this I still haven't seen. We may have to move somewhere else if our needs become more serious. I also listened to my mother's wants more than her needs. This is a very stressful event and everyone needs to be very careful want you are seeing and doing during this time

Downhill fast

Since new ownership, the quality of services and niceities has gone down drastically. -My family member was without transportation for almost a week because the bus was being serviced and no other transportation was provided. Residents were told that transportation is an amenity and Meadowstone doesn’t really HAVE to provide it. The expectation was that residents with cars would drive those who needed transportation. - There is no longer a served lunch on Saturdays (when there is no complimentary breakfasts as on M-F), so people who want lunch have to order takeout (which is sad for those who have very little social time except at meals.) They can choose to eat in the Club House, but have to get their own plastic utensils and drinks. - The snacks provided when activities are happening are now prepackaged Hostess cupcakes, cookies, egg salad sandwiches dripping with mayo, or other unhealthy choices, IF they are supplied at all anymore. Very disappointing indeed.

Beautiful apartment, but deceived by the meals

My mother moved to Verena a few months ago. She loves her apartment and appreciates the activities and shuttle service, but she has been deeply disappointed with the dinners. We were invited to have a meal before moving in, and were served a reasonably good lunch. It was a balanced meal with a well-prepared protein, potatoes and vegetables. We assumed that this was the norm. But once she moved in, she found the dinner service to be inconsistent, with low quality meats and poultry often poorly prepared or deep-fried, and vegetables often over or undercooked. She's sometimes not able to eat the protein, so goes without. At last week's community meeting, when residents asked management to address the poor meal quality, the director talked over people. While Verena seemed like it could be an ideal place for my mother to live, we have been deeply deceived by the food service.

Mediocre meals

The new management has done an admirable job of renovating and remodeling the facility, but they have gutted the food service budget. Things bottomed out in late 2022 when a spate of food poisoning affected a significant percentage of the residents. Shortly after, they attempted to pass off pressed, processed meat products as chicken cordon bleu and beef brisket. The turnover in the kitchen has been constant, with no chef or sous chef lasting more than a few months, most of them unqualified. In my recent visit I was served a salad in which most of the lettuce was browning, and the vegetables were overcooked to the point of being tasteless mush. Recently, the dish of the day has become increasingly unhealthy : sausage, pork fried rice, and cheese blintzes. There seems to be little consideration for the dietary needs of an aged demographic. If you’re considering living here, forgo the private lunch that is offered, and instead ask to eat in the late afternoon with the residents.

Food and entertainment

I'm very disappointed with the meals. They have been of very poor quality . They don't take into consideration the age group of the people when planning the meals. The main dishes are not paired with vegetables and starches that make a healthy dinner ex. spaghetti with mashed potato.. In the ballroom, the chairs are very uncomfortable for anyone wanting to watch a show for any length of time for people with back problems (which are many of the people who live there). There has not been any good entertainment. Planning is poor. Thank you very much and hope there will be changes.

Buyer Beware

This place held great promise for my family upon visiting for the first time. We were wined and dined and told about all the good things. What we weren't informed of was the major construction project that would span for much of my family's lease term. The only thing luxury about this place is the price as the services are inconsistent, particularly the food service. Take a look at the menu and you will see items such as Asian Salmon and Pork Stew. Some mornings they don't even have fruit for the residents and they will say they didn't order any. The unit is decent but the construction is poor and walls thin. The place is filthy including the common areas and the kitchen. Employees constantly complain about their boss to the residents.

Poor value

My parents live here and I visit them often. Based on the level of services delivered, this is a poor value. The accommodations are comfortable and the place is clean. The food is good too. However, the food service is consistently below average; orders are often incomplete and inaccurate. The standards are low here and the majority of staff are unfriendly and unhelpful. Even when I visit, I notice the front desk staff is unhappy and unpleasant.
