A room with a view

My mom once stayed here previously. It is a up scale community. We were offerd a meal and it was very good. They did offer alot of activities for good participation. The staff were very nice and caring. My mom would of chosen this community, but it did not have a room with the view of the ocean that she is enjoying. I know that this is a great community and we would recommend this for other families and there loved ones.

Not What I Wanted

I had a god tour of this community but they were not going to give me what I wanted. They showed me a room that was a 2 bedroom and they had a walk-in closet. I requested to have shelved be installed but they were not able to do this. Some of the rooms were too small.

A few things they might not mention

A great place. The sales people will tell you what's good. Here is a couple of heads-ups for prospective residents based on my parent's first 3 months. When you schedule a visit make sure they also schedule the medical interview for you or you'll have to make a second trip. If you live out of town that's a big deal. The dining room closes at 4:00 on Sundays. The golf cart shuttles travel in one direction. if you're in the wrong part of the loop it could take a while to get to the dining hall.

Be sure you understand what is offered.

This place thinks it is better than it is because the business development people, and presumably management and administrators, only view what they provide relative to what else is available in the area, rather than in comparison to "what could be." Do not expect a personalized experience. Do not expect great care. Do not expect what they offer to replace the care a friend, family member, or good companion would provide. This is a for-profit business. Profit is their primary motivation.

Warehouse for the Aged (albeit a nice warehouse)

Beware of entering a "tiered" facility, because if down the road you find yourself needing assisted living or nursing care, you may not end up very happy. My parents are at Vi. They've been in independent living, assisted living and now nursing care. This review is, in particular, about the nursing care center - the place where you or your loved ones at Vi will end up if you need a lot of care. If you end up as a long term care resident, it is a warehouse - albeit a clean one, with a crew of aides that are generally quite good at their tasks. But (A) the place has the feel of a plantation (a bit disconcerting for those of us who don't live in the south), and (B) there is little-to-no truly individualized attention to the "whole person," and (C) emotional and social care is deficient, and (D) the food is generally far from wholesome and healthy (think fatty, sugary, salty). The care center administrator is all about putting up barriers to doing anything for individuals -- it is show. This is the crux of the problem. The place is not staffed with enough help - so exceptional care ... forget it. And the medical care - mediocre. They are good at following instructions and prescriptions, but don't expect them to be proactive, or even be able to identify anything beyond an urgent problem in their midst. And despite the fact that music has been shown to be a useful therapy for everyone, the administration won't even pay for a music/radio package through Comcast. You get the picture. You will NOT be wowed by this place if you explore the care center. My recommendation: Stay away.

Independent living nice/ Care Center a nightmare

Independent living amenities and restaurants are wonderful. Hope that you don’t have to spend your final days in the Care Center because your wishes will Probably not be honored, even if documents have been filed. A doctor never showed up to assess our mother’s condition as she lay gasping her final breaths, hospice was not called, even though we had made arrangements through [removed], the hospice center recommended by Bentley’s social worker, and a total lack of compassion was shown.

Our family had an in person tour and we did not feel welcomed. The lady giving the tour complained about people referring possible clients to this community who couldn't afford it. However we could afford it which is why we toured but after that comment we walked out.

Beware. Be informed before you sign the dotted line.

Know what you are getting yourself into. If you buy into this place, you are stuck with them if you need care, unless you plan to shell out hundreds of thousands more. Are you prepared to be financially locked into one facilities care? Are you prepared to be forced out of your home and into their care facility? Have you visited the care center? Have you asked care center residents their thoughts on the care and activities? Might they ban your family from visiting you, like they did with another resident - just because of complaints? Again: Beware. Be informed BEFORE you buy in. Beware. Even if the place seems nice, will it be that way in 5 years? My suggestion: Do not buy into any facility where you may be forced out of your home and pay mega dollars for the promise of "care."

Inhuman, awful, terrible and worse than you can imagine

We moved my FIL into Vi at Grayhawk a few years ago. From the outside, it seemed like a wonderful place offering everything a person could need in the last years of their life. In reality, its run like a Jr HS with management that do not hold any concerns for people, only profits. I could list 100's of things wrong with the place. From the costs, to the limited services, to the terrible way they treat human beings. I could spend hours spinning your head with the names and dates and experiences from these people, but I wont... Instead know that this place is not what it seems. It's a very expensive 3 star hotel. Not a care center. The management are some of the worst people I have ever experienced in 40 years of business. They are truly awful humans. Please do not put your love ones into this place. It's a profit driven hotel masquerading as a full service facility. While there are some good people there, they are overwhelmed by awful folks who run it.

One of the worst place I've been in.they just want your money they dont care about your safety

This place is definitely for people who can afford who leaves here and its sad to say that a place like this is to good to be true.some of tha staff is nice but someone of them doesn't even know what there doing.one of the main issues on this place is parking its terrible even if you used a vale parking they are always short of staff by the time you want you can back you will be waiting for a while.i dont know why they cant afford to get a sign on there parking area.the next thing you know you have a ticket already in your car and when you complain about it they only tell you ow you cant park there it has a red paint.as far as i know red paint wont tell you anything.and they tell you your not supposed to park there.and when you decide to leave here your gonna be disappointed because of the parking and for the rules here that doesn't even make sense.when you order your food its always late and sometimes they forget to submit it.at one point i almost got run over one of the resident

Spending your last years in solitary confinement

Prior to the pandemic, my family’s experience was wonderful. Recently however, changes to visitation, access to outside medical care and limitations on promised social opportunities have caused serious medical harm to my mothers mental and physical well-being as well as tremendous distress to our family. The whole premise of my parents investment in this center is greatly undermined. My mother has even repeatedly stated she was considering hospice because the Solitary confinement/isolation Was unbearable and/or abandoning the Vi entirely. Think very carefully before investing in this facility during these uncertain times. You may find yourself or your loved one spending their last days entirely alone, exactly the opposite of what the Vi advertises itself as proving. As an example, current rules for the care center, snf and assisted living limit “permit” one 20 minute visit by 2 direct family members every two weeks at the most. Beware!
