Garbage

My father is here and we are already looking elsewhere. Within two weeks of being here the nursing staff has ignored him and left him to sit in his own urine for well over 6 hours. He’s got a hard time remembering things and they are nonchalant about him not eating anything and the nurses don’t seem to care at all. We’ve complained at least three times. If you care about your loved one do not send them here

Stella Chiesl

During my search in March of 2013 for a suitable assisted living facility for my mother, Stella Chiesl, of the several facilities I visited one was Alexian Villages. When I visited the facility and interviewed the staff including the Director – Lauren, I was impressed with the cleanliness of the grounds and the professionalism of the people I met during the interview process. Based on these first impressions I picked Alexian Villages over the other potential assisted living facilities in the area. Over the past 15 months I have been very disappointed in the service levels my mother received. Once my mother was admitted, the Director was less interested in talking to my mother or the family and more interested in when the check was going to be received. Since I do not live in the Chicago area, I relied on the information I needed to receive about my mother’s health from the staff on duty. The problem was that almost every time I called they were to busy to talk to me or answer my questions. The total number of people working during the night shifts was 2 CNAs and there were no licensed medical staff on site after 5:00 PM. This meant that any medications (morphine, etc.) had to be administered by family members and not by trained medical personnel. The on-site doctor did not appear to be informed as to the medical condition of my mother. This became very evident when my mother was admitted to a hospital last December due to kidney failure, which according to the hospital doctors was caused by incorrect dosage of water pills. Based on my experience over the past 15 months, I would not recommend Alexian Villages to anyone looking for an assisted living facility for their loved ones.

Do not place a loved one here

My dad was at Lakeshore at Siena for 4 months and we moved him back to [facility name removed]. They neglected my father and caused him horrific bedsores and infections. That place needs to be shut down. It was the most horrific experience. I filed a complaint with the DQA. I would caution EVERYONE not to place their loved ones here.

Awful

Don t let the lakefront fool you. The therapists are great...few personnel actually care. Speech therapy is nonexistant. Most are contracted hires that sit in the nurses stations playing on their phones! My mom almost died here! My mom had a uti that we had to take her to the er to get properly diagnosed. We swooped her out and emptied her room. They never answered call lights...kept her phone out of her reach...never answered their phones. [removed]is better...and that s saying alot!!!

Horrible experience post surgery

I was confined to bed, but had to learn to get myself to bathroom or I would pee myself. I was in pain for 2 hours because the nurse stated she went to lunch and ran an errand. The occupational therapist did not read my records resulting in her accusing me of either lying about asthma or lying about military service. I am a burn pit victim with my asthma and breast cancer directly related. I left as soon as my ramp was built because I'd rather be home aline than have their services any longer eventhough I was authorized an additional 2 weeks. I'd had ankle surgery with a plate and 13 screws. Not ONE of my nurses checked my bandages and refused to help me adjust my boot. I could have had a problem with my incision and nobody would know until weekly doctor visit. I finally took it off myself so they could assist putting it back on. The entire experience was beyond ridiculous.

DONT EVER take a family member to this horrible place. They could care less about our love ones. My mom had to use the restroom in the middle of the nite and they would not come after her pushing the buzzer so instead of coming to help her to the restroom they put in her in timeout in the cafeteria. What place would do that... .that horrible place. Thats abuse. Told me to put my mom to bed a nite she was really sick..thank God i didn't. She died that nite. That place should be shut down.

Supervised Neglect

I am a medical provider and I cannot say enough bad things about this facility. First, the rehab physician, [name removed], has NO rehab experience. He is a weight mgmt and obesity specialist. He did not properly medicate my [age removed] yo mother who broke her arm and hip. Little to no medication was provided and there was a 2 week span with NO pain medication. Her poor care limited her ability to rehab and cost her mobility. When she had difficulty moving due to the lack of medication, I had a nurse threaten that she would go to skilled nursing, which coincidentally they have on site. She was not changed frequently and was left to sit in urine frequently. She developed at UTI and they refused to test her, leaving us to try to treat it for the last 2 weeks after we thankfully left the facility. I would never put anyone I loved into this facility. They have a 4 star rating but do not deserve it at all.

Please stay away!

My mother-in-law stayed at the rehab part of this facility for a week. I wanted to move her after the first night when she told me she had to scream for help to go the the bathroom since the aids and nurses did not answer her call button. Then I and other members of my family witnessed with our own eyes how long it took aids and nurses to come and see what was needed after the call button was pushed. We were told twice that the button was not working properly. We actually were lied to many times within that week. We finally moved my mother-in-law after she fell early one morning and we found out that she was on the floor for at least 20 minutes until the aid could find the nurse on duty and another aid to help lift her into bed. We got a phone call that described the fall completely different than what my mother-in-law reported to us and when I got there to talk to the new nurse on duty, she told me the same fabricated story. She stated that my mother-in-law fell on her own because she wasn't patient enough to wait for an aid and that the aid came in just in time to lower her to the ground. She also stated that it only took minutes for others to come in the room to help lift her onto the bed. In reality she fell because the aid did not have a good hold of her and she slipped on the slippery floor. She had a cut and bruise on her knee as proof of her fall. Luckily she was not injured any further than that except for her dignity. This same nurse was so rude and condescending to us the rest of the day while we waited for x-rays. She could have been more empathetic towards us and my mother-in-law, but she wanted to be righteous and rude instead. Another complaint I have about this place is that the nurses and aids do not ask what they can do to help the patients or simply observe what is needed, but wait to be asked (after having to wait for up to 40 minutes). For example, providing ice bags or refilling water cups for the patients. PLEASE, just do not place your loved ones into this rehab center. They will be neglected and mistreated!!!!

Do something Good about the Food Now !

Alexian Village was acquired by Ascension recently in the spring. Food is so important to seniors, and real changes in quality, taste and healthy offerings need to be made soon without significant cost increases. It is clear that the right surveys are taking place, but all the residents are wondering if any real improvements will be made, of if it's just going to be empty words and promises. As a family member of a resident for years, the new management should be put on notice to do something immediately. These are some of the basics that can take down all other ratings, so the overall becomes realistically disappointing for all who live here. Simple fixes will mean a lot. PLEASE HELP the CAUSE

SOLD A BILL OF GOODS!!!!!!!!! DO NOT LIVE HERE!

My mom and I wish we had never had her move to Alexian Village. She pays a lot of money to live there with the expectation of healthcare availability since she lives independently. NOT so anymore. The statement by management yesterday was "if you can live independently, you have the capability of calling 911 yourself"... She pays $3,000 monthly to ensure she is taken care of and this would include basic healthcare. This facility has changed management 3+ times in the last 3 years. Food is terrible. No physician on site..........we are now looking elsewhere for her to live. (The employees, however, are wonderful!)

Horrible

I only gave 1 star because I had to. I would not put my dog in here. My mom was here for 8 months. The first two were okay, after that, it really went downhill. They are completely understaffed now. You can NEVER find anyone to help you. If you do find a nurse, they dont want to do anything, they say to get an aide. All they do here is put the patients in front of a TV all day. Then they put them to bed at 6:30. The billing is a joke. They constantly billed us for items that my mom never even used. She was missing several items of clothing. We did her own laundry, so there was no reason for anyone to take anything of hers! About a month ago my mom was not feeling well. They did all kinds of "tests" on her and told us everything came out fine. It wasnt until we got the nurses notes to give to the new facility we were moving her to that we discovered she had E Coli at that time! We were never informed of that! The attitudes of everyone there are horrible. Even the receptionist doesnt even acknowledge or greet you when you walk in the door. And forget about ever getting anyone to return a phone call...PLEASE PLEASE look at other facilities before ever considering putting a loved one here.

Do NOT send a loved one here!

Don't ever let a loved one go here! The staff has no compassion, no communication skills and they flat out just don't care. They are not monitoring my loved ones oxygen levels, dietary needs, vitals or hygiene needs. When asked for simple things like water or asprin the staff laughs as they walk out the door because they know they won't come back. This place is a [removed] lawsuit waiting to happen. And it isn't because they are understaffed. Several people hanging out chatting as if they have nothing to do. What's the point of a new $13.5 million facility to take care of your loved ones if you're afraid to leave them there alone because no one is caring for them? Complain and they don't solve anything, they just tell you who they blame. [removed] DO NOT send anyone you love to this facility. I don't know how this place has more than a one star rating. If I could give it a zero rating I would. Please look at their other one star ratings and reviews on Yelp. It would be dangerous to leave a loved one here. Please beware!!!

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!!! MY FATHER IN LAW HAS BEEN AT THE WICHITA, KS, RIDGE RD FACILITY FOR 3 WEEKS, HE’S HAD EXACTLY 3 SHOWERS, THE LAST ONEN WE HAD TO ASK FOR MULTIPLE TIMES. PRIOR TO HIS LAST SHOWER HE HAD BEEN WEARING THE SAME CLOTHING FOR 4/5 DAYS. TONIGHT HIS HEADPHONES HAVE BROKEN AND D/T VISITATION RESTRICTIONS WE CANNOT TAKE HIM A NEW PAIR. THE NURSE ON DUTY WILL NOT ALLOW FOR ANYONE TO MEET US AT THE DOOR FOR THEM. MORE OFTEN THAN NOT WE WERE MET WITH RUDENESS OR JUST PLAIN IRRITATION. I HAVE BEEN A NURSE, AS WELL AS A CNA, IN THE LONG TERM/SKILLED NURSING SETTING AND KNOW HOW THINGS WORK! I HAVE PERSONALLY MADE HIS BED ALL BUT 2 DAYS OF HIS STAY. I HAVE CALLED THE FACILITY ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS AROUND 6AM OR SO AND HAD TO CONTINUE CALLING UNTIL SOMEONE ANSWERED. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE BUSY GIVING REPORT. WE HAVE HAD TO CALL AND ASK FOR SOMEONE TO CHECK ON HIM BECAUSE HE HAS CALLED US AND NO HAS ANSWERED HIS CALL LIGHT. OUTSIDE OF A COUPLE OF THE AIDES AND NURSES, ON UNIT B-1 OR 1-B (NOT EXACTLY SURE HOW THEY REFER TO THE UNIT) WE ARE NOT HAPPY. WE DID NOT FEEL AS THOUGH MY FATHER IN LAW WAS GETTING THE CARE AND CONSIDERATION THAT HE DESERVED. NOR WERE A COUPLE OF THE OTHER RESIDENTS THAT MAYBE NEEDED A BIT MORE ATTENTION BECAUSE THEIR MEMORY WAS’NT THAT OF OTHERS. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND A VIA CHRISTI FACILITY TO ANYONE.

I Don't Recommend This Place

I was a patient at this facility following several surgeries. It was a well decorated facility, and the rooms were very nice and roomy. The physical rehab staff was wonderful; the RN's and nursing assistants were another story completely. Middle of the night calls were answered very slowly, if at all. And the assistants were not happy when you called. Your meals are always interrupted for medication distributing. I have severe anxiety issues and insomnia and those medications are prescribed on an "as needed" basis, which to them, means you have to ask for them and they are only given at the exact moment you are allowed to have your next dose. No matter that the doctor prescribed that I take one medication 3 times a day. The nurses divided those 3 doses by a 24 hour dosing schedule meaning that I would need to wake at 4:00am to receive my 3rd dose. I never heard of such stupidity! My doctor wanted me to take 3 doses a DAY, not 2 during the day and wake up at night to take the 3rd dose. The food was pretty bad, usually cold, bland, and VERY small portions. And the foods advertised as always available, is laughable, If you ask for it, they are usually out of it, so there is no way to avoid the tasteless, cold meals they serve you. I remember thinking how are these people surviving on this small amount of food? The majority of the floor staff are not happy people and as a patient, it makes you feel like a burden. I was glad to go home even though I was not physically ready. I hope I never have to return to this place. Someone needs to check out the nursing care and bring it up to an acceptable level. You people will all age and will require "specialized" care sometime in your life. Think about that the next time you are rude and insensitive to a patient who in reality, is helping pay your salary. If you hate your job and you hate patients, please get another job.

Go anywhere else for rehab

Horrible rehab experience for my father suffering with dementia. They apparently are not equipped to deal with anyone with any problems especially dementia but yet accepted him anyway$$$$$. If you cant function on your own I would warn you to stay away. The problem with that is that you are in need of assistance when you go to a rehab facility = a catch 22. My father was sent back to the hospital after a supervised visit to the restroom where the sink was pulled off of the wall somehow. You tell me how that happens. It wasn't until after that that I was told he would not be able to return to the facility (a blessing in hindsight) because they "can't deal with patients with behaviors (dementia)". No compassion and only wanted to get paid. They even lost his only pair of prescription glasses.

If You Love Them, Don't Put Them Here

My grandparents stayed here for a week while my grandma recovered from hip surgery after falling down. This was the worst service I've ever witnessed. Almost every caregiver had a hostile attitude; when one of my grandparents had to use the restroom, sometimes they would wait hours after pressing their button, which signaled that they required assistance. The employees treated everyone as though they were brainless, when they were very much so aware of their surroundings. There was absolutely no respect or care here. I wish my family knew how horrible of treatment my grandparents would receive at this place, before they went.

Don’t move your loved one hear until there is a change

There is a aid in the Brighton area that makes residents wait or ignores them doesn’t want to do her job and Sherbrooke Villages administration and DON is okay with that they don’t do anything about it to make the situation better. The residents should be treated respectfully They pay the aids salary, they should not start complaining in front of family and residents about the residents.

Stealing and rudeness

I really thought we had found a great place for Mom. It started out fine the first week in rehab, then moved to long term care. A big difference between rehab facility and long term. A large part of the long term staff have very bad attitudes. They make you feel you're putting them out when you're interrupting their personal conversation after standing at the nurses station for 5 minutes with no one acknowledging you're standing there. THE ultimate insult was when we discovered someone stole $10 and 50 cents she kept in her cosmetic bag...really! Stealing from a 90 year old! Sad!

CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE!

If you are looking for a Rehab Facility, do NOT even consider this place! Wouldn't recommend to ANYONE! *No Structure, NO one in charge, staff very disconnected *Did not use medical belt to move very WEAK patient *Bar talk at Nurses station, very UN professional *Patient finished meal, asked to return to room...was told the aides went to lunch, just wait until they return. * Did not take bandage off the incision as Dr. ordered, they were reminded 4 days later, and said it was no big deal. *Did not bring the food asked for at mealtime. later said patient can't have that food...Well, come ask if she would like something ELSE!! *Bus scheduled for patient DR. APPT was scheduled an hour LATER than the appointment! *Patient , age 83, off food, (trouble with swallowing after surgery) for 12 days...when she could eat again, the RN said "Eat as much as you possibly can!" Really? Crispy fried chicken & Mashed Pot. with gravy, 2 glasses of milk AFTER 12 DAYS of no food, or water, only small ice cubes. Then...later nausea for 5 days...until FAMILY asked for nausea medication!!
