Happy at Heritage Commons

I’ve been here at Heritage Commons since the beginning of this year and I couldn’t be more pleased! The staff, at every level, is gracious and helpful. The residents are friendly and welcoming from the very beginning. It is way beyond my expectations! Many activities, including bus trips to shopping and medical visits. BTW: Meals are great, as well!

They did a good job, everyone was so nice to me.

They did a good job, everyone was so nice to me. I would recommend them, I would go there myself. The only suggestions I would give, is to maybe cut up some of the food, for those who are too embarrassed to ask, and if someone isn't doing well and they want to eat their dessert first, go for it. The other thing is that the dining room really is the common area. They have bingo twice a week, but other than that, they pretty much go their separate ways. It would be nice to have some more cozy areas for non structured socializing, like they have upstairs.

My mother is thrilled, she is very, very happy there. We liked the smaller setting, with the more one to one care. They will let her know when the activities are and they will even go get her. She is happy with the food, and how attentive they are. They were able to work with our budget too. They do her nails for free if she wants to do that once a week. Everyone knows her and that's what we like about it.

Elmcroft was a little more expensive than some of the others

Elmcroft was a little more expensive than some of the others we were looking at. I did like the layout, being all on one floor. I also liked that they had a nice courtyard area, giving the residents a chance to walk around outside. It was also a little too far away for us, but really nice.

My loved one says next to being home he is happy there

I like that they are specially trained for dementia and memory care. My loved one says next to being home he is happy there. I would like to see more staff, specifically the caregiver staff, it can take a while for someone to get to the residents, when they ring the bell. The food is not that good and the portions are pretty small. Communication between staff might be a little lacking. He is up going to activities, now and feeding himself and doing better than he has been in months.

EXCELLENT!!!!

Elmcroft was an excellent choice for my parents. You can not find a more loving staff. It broke my heart when I realized I could not afford to keep them there for the rest of their life (since they do not accept Medicaid). I moved my parents to Lucy Corr (which has been a good experience for my dad, my mom passed away 2 months after their move). If I had the money we would have remained at Emcroft.

Finding New Friends

We all know that growing old is not the beautiful sunset of life that we wish it to be. I, personally, knew that I needed to move my mom closer to me than the 300 miles that separated us during her later years. I was becoming exasperated in my search for the perfect living conditions for Mom as she didn’t really have full assisted-living needs at this time. At long last, I was thrilled when I initially found Heritage Commons and their warm helpful personnel to aid us in our change. Mom moved in with ease and, within no time, was meeting new people. She had been in a much larger retirement complex which didn’t really enable close personal relations. The size of Heritage Commons is perfect and has that warm encircling feeling that a lot of aging men and women find difficult to find. This feeling also encourages them to take advantage of the many activities and excursions that Heritage offers. And as Mom is finding new friends at Heritage, she has also found a new younger friend in her own daughter!

We are very happy with it, they are very nice people. The only thing is the parking, if you go during the day parking is limited and it can be hard to park. The Value is very good! Why I Chose Heritage Commons

Last year it became evident that both of my parents (now in their early 90’s) were not able to continue doing many of the chores and other activities they were accustomed to over the past 25 years of my father’s retirement. Yet they still desired a level of independent living, but with some of the activities planned for them and some of their daily chores managed by someone else. After visiting all of the adult independent living facilities in our area we chose Heritage Commons. Besides offering meals, housekeeping services, in-house activities, as well as transportation services for medical, shopping, banks, etc., they also had three other important qualities we were seeking: central location, everything under one roof, and at a price that was both reasonable and did not include any buy-in fees or long-term leases. Both of my parents are very happy in their new living arrangements and enjoy their regular walks in the well-lighted and pleasant hallways, particularly on cold or rainy days, when going outside is not an option. We’ve found the staff to be attentive, friendly, and also very accommodating.

I liked that facility a lot, I liked that the people seemed well cared for, it was clean, the staff seemed very active with the patients there. I really liked the apartment here, but it concerns me about all of the possible additional charges. I did see several ladies that seemed sociable, happy, and enjoying themselves.

Much better place than where dad was before

So far things are going very well. The staff is way up there, the friendliness is a 5+. The care is coming around, I would think they would have picked up on a few things, things they could have suggested or I would have suggested but I can't really say anything negative about it because my father is a special case. My father's blind, he was on the first floor but we moved him to the dementia unit so he could get more attention and care. The problem is my dad's not one to participate a whole lot at all and because he's blind there's not a lot he can do; so he's been severely depressed but the medication's starting to work. He's coming out a lot more and making some friends. In fact, I referred another resident who was over at Atria to King's Grant and I think they moved in the other weekend. I'm very comforted to know that this is where he will be until the end.

The best part of Farnham Manor are the staff. It is obvious to even the casual observer that all of the direct care staff and others care about the residents. There is a level of staff maturity that gives me confidence that good care is the norm. I have heard only good things about the food and planned activities.
