Not Enough Activities Offered For the Eldercare Members

My husband's experience here at this community was adequate. The community is nice and clean, everyone is very friendly and helpful. My issue with this community was that I didn't feel there were enough engaging activities offered for the Eldercare members. My husband wasn't encouraged to be active. He continually was looking for more to do.

Lots of activities... Little to NO care!

I placed my father in this ALF because it was very reasonable at the time and at first sight we absolutely fell in love with the place! They have a little library on the second floor and a bird sanctuary on the third floor. They have also just recently put in a man cave with a pool table, darts, puzzles and card games. I believe they still play Bingo every other night and sometimes they will round everyone up on the bus to take them out to dinner or fishing. My dad loved it until recently they changed management. Rent went up and now dad isn't getting ANY care... its as if they completely ignore him. I went there to visit him after 6pm and it was like no nurses to be found! I suppose maybe they are caring for those on the second and third floors but my dad is not a happy camper and when he complains they call me like I am suppose to be able to fix it. I pay nearly $2900 a month and they cant even give him his meds! Oh but they used to include all that (No additional charge) and now they want an additional $300 for that. Ummm NO!!! Wherever the old management went is where we will follow. It is literally like having a happy family and now NOTHING!!! Dad even has to wait nearly 30min-1hour for his meals from the time he sits down. Again it is like being ignored and don't get me started with the turn-around. They used to have good/caring nurses but now they turn him away when he comes in for his drops and meds. He has no companionship, no care, and just recently someone is coming in and unplugging refrigerators! I don't know about this place anymore. I had high high hopes until recently. Dad is already wanting to move and I don't blame him. The only thing good we got from this was his doctors and a set of high standards to look for in future ALFs.

Good and bad

We chose Rockport for affordability and care. My dad was evaluated by the nursing staff and told he would easily fit in, however upon arrival several weeks later, we were told after several days, that he would not be able to stay there. The nursing staff would tell us one thing and the front desk staff another. There was also a "sign on" type of fee of 1000.00 (non refundable) that we were not told about in any previous discussions and had to pay on the first day. Furthermore, the place is an old hotel and the doorways going into the rooms and bathrooms are tight. Accessibility is not good. My dad like the food.

Disappointing and scary

I was a visitor at the facility for the first time. There was no one at the front desk and I waited about 10 or 15 minutes. There was no security on the doors and people could come in or leave with no problem. I noticed some resident wandering around and one spoke to me and appeared to be in need of monitoring or supervision. I was concerned that it would’ve been very easy for one of the residents such as this to just walk right out the door. I don’t know if the facility has cameras at the front, and if they do and are being monitored, then that makes it different. The only people that were available, were located down a long hall and to the right. One person was playing on their phone and another was doing paperwork. I just feel like there needs to be some kind of security and representation at the lobby area.

Started great, then service deteriorated.

Buyer beware. PT/OT are excellent. But, facility changed its scope to fill 2nd floor with memory care & clients who require prodigious amounts of personal care. Staffing has NOT increased for needs, yet Lakes assures meets PA requirement. All 2nd floor who are capable are getting short shrift & largely must take care of themselves. Baths 2x/week don't occur anymore due to staff is constantly tied up with more dependent residents. Food is lousy, nutrition poor. Weird assigned seating for meals. Scheduled menu items frequently unavailable & Lakes claims to have "just run out" after 1st floor was served first. I don't know how this place can even begin to claim that they do diabetic care, unless they mean the glucose tests + pass the meds, because dietary needs of a diabetic can't be met by the kind of meals that we catalogued in a 5 month stay. Had to clean toilet ourselves. NP breezes in and talks in public at meals, then bills for full-service office visit. Nobody checks wt or vitals.

Really going downhill

Most of these reviews are older. New management has taken over and it has changed alot. Biggest change is the dining services. They do not cook meals on the weekends, they provide packaged meals on Friday, to last the weekend. Typically a sandwich , soup, and small entree. Starting Feb, no breakfast either. Also you do not get to pick a meal, you get what you get. I guess they figure its Independant living, so you can make your own. Typically no staff around after 5pm or weekends, so if you're looking for security, they only have cameras. They provide call buttons, but tell them not to wear them at night, because they are too sensitive. You have to put your trash in laundry room, sits over weekend. I suppose they are trying to move to a totally independent facility? It used to be how they advertise themselves, a luxury retirement community...Umm not so much anymore. The rent is reasonable, you get what you pay for. The lobby and dining area are nice, rooms are outdated

There have been at least six MC directors in three years. 2020 to 2023. [name removed] was investigated by Adult Protective Services due to a unreported fall that resulted in a broken leg. The MC staff and director should have better knowledge of how to turn the bedridden residents, how to dress residents who have pain, and how to cut up food for those who can no longer use utensils. Food for those who can feed themselves with utensils is usually very good. The activities are good. The outdoor area for the MC is small, hot, and with sad landscaping. The MC office is lackadaisical with many wrong phone numbers and misplaced paperwork. The ladies at the sign-in area are the best! Since I have another family member in another MC facility in Tampa so I can say that [name removed] MC staff is not up to the standards that they should be as caregivers.

I would want others to know we did not have a good expedience here. Something happened and they had to take my dad to the hospital. They did not call us or even tell us that it happened and I got a medical bill in the mail. When he left here, he had a whole bunch of medicines from the pharmacy they use, they were supposed to get them all together so I could pick them up and they somehow disappeared. The price is good.

The staff at the Rockport were also very friendly and accommodating, very welcoming. My biggest concern was the building: it felt like a motel. Granted there was no furniture in the apartment I saw. First the location of the Rockport is in the middle of a busy, commercial street. The lobby was uninviting, the rooms also uninviting. A big drawback for my aunt would be the lack of a kitchen and therefore wouldn't work. I feel badly because the two women I met clearly were committed to providing the best for their clients.

Nice Facility

We toured this place for 2 loved ones. The facility is nice, the downfall is the communication. I tried calling 3 times and left messages and we did not get a return call back. We wanted to rent the room. I also noticed no one really talks to anyone when the residents are in the lobby. With both of these downfalls, which I think are crucial, we decided to move on and find another facility.
