Heritage at Northern Hills Assisted Living Review

There is NO communication. The move in process was easy and they were very welcoming to our mom. The meals are very good. It's like a restaurant with 2 choices each meal. The housekeeping is very good. My recommendation is communication. Any communication. There is none. Or have a face to face sit down meeting, at the minimum, after the first 30 days.

Recommend for Assisted Living

This facility is a great place if your loved one doesn't need constant care. My loved one needs reminding for activities and they don't seem to be able to provide that. They send a weekly newsletter and a weekly menu. I would recommend this facility for people with mild or no Dementia.

It's easy to tell they're conserving on meat in the meals. They sometimes run out of food. Most of the people who eat there complain about the food to one another, but don't say anything to those in charge. The facility is kept very clean. It always looks nice. The décor and holiday decorating are very pleasant. Many of the residents are very friendly. It feels like a secure, safe place to live. The apartments are cozy.

Our Experience

My father fell there and hit his head and ended up having a brain bleed. I was out of state, they knew they were to call me first as I was power of attorney and his medical point of contact. When I called and asked where he was, they weren't certain where he actually was. It was a nice place, people are very nice but you better be healthy otherwise not a great experience in my opinion. The medical techs were very attentive and had decent response time at times. They made me pay the entire month of July even though we advised him that in June he was not coming back. After he passed, I did reach out to them and they partially refunded me for that month.

Only a pretty picture

I was disappointed in our experience at Orchard Pointe. We ultimately had to move because they do not take long term care, but we had other issues as well. There was a staff member who would give my loved one life advice that I felt was not appropriate or professional. They were understaffed a lot and it was almost impossible to get a hold of anyone. They had a pediatrist come in and I asked many times for them to come see my loved one and it never happened. They did not use things that we gave them and also did not follow doctors orders. I felt they were overpriced for what was offered and I wouldn't recommend them.

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great

I took a tour on a Sunday so there weren’t a lot of people available to speak with. It was very expensive, and the location wasn’t ideal, but I liked that if his level of care were to change, he wouldn’t have to move to a different facility. The thing that really turned me off was when someone from the facility texted me asking “what would it take to get Mom and Dad in here”, even though I told him my Mom had passed 10 years ago. It felt like he hadn’t listened to me at all. We went with a different community in the end.

A good tour

I did not like the size of the apartments when I visited. They had a small living room with a window seat for your guests to use. The community was clean and the people I met were nice.

Not enough Staff !!

I really expected more from this location for how big the community was. I was not very impressed with what I saw during my tour and was very concerned that there was no staff on the floor or any where to be seen during my visit. I did not feel this was a good fit for my loved one and would not recommend this place.

I would not recommend Orchard Pointe!!

The staff at this community are the main problem. My parents have Dementia and Alzheimers and the staff are letting them make decision about their care although we have a POA. My Father was taken to the emergency room and I was not notified by the community I was notified by the emergency room. The community itself is beautiful and the food is good. We pay extra for my dad's care and they do not make sure my parents shower and change their clothes on a regular basis. They oversold the abilities of the staff.

I did visit Fountain View and spoke with director. Beautiful facility but there was no availability and it was out of our budget. Director was very nice and up front about what they could provide. Could have been our choice had the price been within our grasp.

It is a nice big place, but pricey and we were worried with our loved one moving from assisted living to memory care it would be to overwhelming. We had some major problems with communication during her stay it was awful, they would never update us when something happened to our loved one. We also had many many billing errors

You can do Better

Dad stayed at Fountain View Memory Care for a year and a half. As is anywhere, there were pros and cons. Pros- Most Staff was friendly. Appeared to like their jobs. Meals were healthy and nice variety. Dad would say it was edible. Had a number of activities for residents. CONS They do not clean under furniture. Dad had stuck several items under his chair. Food dirty napkins Christmas ornaments etc. Dementia patients can and will hide anything and everything. Why on earth would checking under furniture not be part of housekeeping weekly responsibility? House keeping is not good at all! Several loads of laundry were turned pink more than once. They did pay to replace after I complained but come on. If you're taking care of my Dad you should be wise enough to know how to do laundry. Dad preferred to eat in his room. I would arrive at 2 or 3 for visits and his plate would still be sitting on his table. Not good for a person who has high risk of choking. He should have been checked on frequently and while doing so, get the dirty dishes removed. Caregivers can not force residents to do anything However they can encourage residents to participate. A simple "Time to play Bingo" is all he needed. This staff could not or would not get Dad out of his room. He sat in his room, day after day when he needed activities to keep his brain from stagnating. From day 1 in his new Memory Care home they have had him out of his room and participating in activities every day. His depression is gone and he is happy again. Staff playing on their phones while my father sat in a wet depends. Why they even allow the phones to be brought on property is beyond me. Phone playtime (by caregivers) was seen quite often. They itemized any extra service and added the fee to the bill. Fine for some I suppose but we're not talking a variation of pennies. An average of $1,000 more a month. Ask to see the extra fee list. Was Dad abused. No. More like neglected. It could have been a lot worse. Then again, compared to his new Memory Care home, Fountain View could be A LOT better. Office staff needs to get up and out of their offices and go see what is going on at the frontlines with their residents and staff. I am an In Home Healthcare provider. This is all right up my alley. I do NOT recommend this facility.

no sodas

Initially I was very pleased with the facility. They have now gone through 2 Directors, corporate came in and got rid of any sodas for lunch or dinner. They no longer serve waffles for breakfast and pancakes once in awhile. One morning the chef didn't show up for breakfast. For $[price removed] a month I would think if my mother wanted a soda she should be able to have one. When she pushes her button, it takes forever for a caregiver and I have gone upstairs and observed 5 caregivers just sitting around.

Would not recommend.

It was an absolutely awful experience. They forced my mom on hospice to stay because they did not want to do the work to give her care which she paid dearly for then they kicked her out. She's no longer even on hospice. They were just plain lazy uncaring and not empathetic their care was so awful they didn't wheel her to the dining room half the time either

No time

I was here for a tour, and after waiting an hour there wasn't anyone there to give me one. The lady at the front desk was rude and on her phone and couldn't answer any of my questions. If they don't have time to answer questions, they won't have time for my family member. There was no administrator there and there wasn't any nursing staff I would talk to. Very disappointed and will not be back.

Don't Go to Orchard Point

My husband and I stayed at Orchard Point from [dates removed]. It was awful, therefore we were just there for 7 long weeks, and out of there everyday for a minimum of 6 or 7 hours. It became extremely expensive because the food was inedible. I once asked for 2 slices of french toast and they give me one slice cut in half! So, in addition to being forced to pay for 6 meals daily, we had to buy food and eat out a lot. The caregivers were, by and large, sullen, and took forever to get to assist my husband. We were told the staff knew how to use a hoyer lift -- they didn't, my husband had to show each and every person multiple times. They were careless with how they put in the seat to the wheelchair, and because he was paralyzed he didn't feel that it was in wrong and so got 3 huge and horrendous bedsores, which became infected and contributed to his death. The management yessed us to our face, and did nothing to help the situation when we complained. I give this place a MINUS 10 stars.
