Some Improvements Needed

I think that their staff could better coordinate the care. They are friendly and helpful, but could use better coordination. I think they need to have more activities, or their existing activities need to be ratcheted up. They need to improve the level of their activities. Make them more sophisticated. They need to improve the assisted living dining area. It is very depressing.

Overall she is happy

The only concern is that when they were Heatherwood, the food was really good, Now that they have changed partners and catering companies, I get lots of complaints about food, sometimes it's not even the same thing as what's on the menu. The maintenance guys come really quickly. One other concern is that one of the cleaning lady doesn't come on the right days, and she says she'll come the next day and she doesn't come. She likes the activities. The transportation is really beneficial. Overall she is happy with where she is at. The social worker, JoAnne is excellent, too.

It's an okay place.

It's an okay place. Initially it was good, but I have heard that the quality of the dining room, both the food and the service, have declined in the past few weeks. To the point that it is unacceptable. The staff has been rude, and quality of the food has also declined. I believe there was a change in the head chef recently, but that doesn't justify the waitstaff. The cleanliness is okay, and the rest of the staff is okay as well. I don't think he has participated in any activities. The dining room isn't big enough for everyone to eat at once, so they have assigned meal times. They have assigned seating at the tables as well, so you have the same meal partners all the time, which was a surprise to me, and can be difficult if you don't get along with your assigned table mates. This was the nicest of the ones he saw for comparable price range, and he chose it himself. It's okay, and well maintained.

Village review

Carmel Village was a miracle for mom and dad after their house flooded. They got an apartment and moved in one day with a level 1 care. I had a couple of disappointments when MOM'S medications were messed up (not the right dosages, not given with food as directed etc.). The caregivers except for one want to just check boxes, escort to meals and dump them. I asked several times to escort to activities, but they don't. I asked that dad would be taken to sit in the sun which he loves, but that doesn't happen. I wish they cared more as the title suggests. An epidemic that lasted 10 days where everything was shut down and folks weren't allowed outside their rooms caused my parents to be further depressed. My dad started sleeping all hours of the day, and my mom was lonely and depressed. I still appreciate that they're in a safe place in case of an emergency but for the monthly price that's paid, a higher level of care would be expected. Also, the food can use some enhancements.

The Uncommon Commons

The staff at the Commons is very friendly and helpful. The food is generally pretty good and varied and the facilities are well maintained. A criticism my mother has is that the evening activities are not well attended. Sometimes she is sitting alone in the activities room watching a movie (or as was the case- the Academy Awards). Movies seem to be the only after dinner activity. The location is great - there are restaurants, a drug store, a bank, markets, etc. in easy walking (or wheelchair pushing) distance. I think this has great value for the cost and I particularly like that aid costs can be re-evaluated as needed, both up and down.

Gorgeous and Beautiful

The Villa Capri was a gorgeous and beautiful community but it seemed to quiet for our liking. The amenities were outstanding. They were just too over the top for us. It seemed like a ghost town it was just too quiet. Our loved one would not have liked it because there seemed to be no socialization with the residents walking around or talking.

An affordable mixed bag

Housekeeping for residents is minimal, and staffing levels are variable. When Dad first moved in they didn't have a functioning bus for six months, and once they finally got it fixed it was three or four more months before they could hire a driver for it.

Improvement needed.

Memory care rooms are older, air conditioning had to be put on manually. My Dad was not capable of asking. Room temperature was very warm when afternoon sun came. I would have liked more communication with staff at move in. Had no knowledge of daily schedule/expectations. My Dad had end of life dementia. I expected staff to handle this. Hospice communicated symptoms more clearly. My Dad was at Carmel Village for only one month. This was the most difficult experience I've had since leaving my children at daycare for the first time. That was 38 years ago. Staff needs to be more compassionate about this experience.

Review for WellQuest of Menifee Lakes

It is a fairly good place, but if you have a loved one in memory care visit often. They did not have enough people to give the extra care. I had a tough call with the gal running the place. My mom was discharged from the hospital late and I called to advise them of this, but when she got to the home the emt took a reading of her oxygen level and since it was low and the home did not have any for her, she was taken back to the hospital. The staff did not advise me of this, so in the morning when I talked to the physical therapist to see what extra help my mom could get she called me back and said that my mom was not there. Talk about being upset...I had no idea where my mom was. The home health place helped and called me back to let me know that she was taken back to the hospital. If your loved one needs extra care it is advisable to pay for a caregiver to come in and help out. So I am not to impressed with WellQuest.

Well it's ownership changed hands, so they do things a little different than at first. It's not assisted living for seniors anymore. It's just straight senior citizen living. Now my dad needs to be back at home to have around the clock supervision. So we're in the process of moving him back to his house. My dad finally started being ok with being there but he was mad at first he didn't want to be there! Now we're trying to get him out of there and it's hard.

change of ownership transition

Jury still out on change of ownership. I understand transition takes time. Most personnel from previous ownership, from managers to care givers have left or were let go. Many of the resident concerns are being listed to re; laundry, food quality and food variety, activities, HOWEVER very little action seems to be taking place.

Review for Oakmont of San Rafael

Overall it's been a good move for my parent. Not having their own home to worry about maintaining any longer has eased their stress. And I feel supported knowing that there are caregivers to check on my parent and help out when needed. However this facility has had a terrible turnover problem. It's been open only a year and they are on their third executive director and third activity director. My parent likes to get to know the staff so it's upsetting when they leave. Oakmont puts up a lavish activity list as a marketing tactic, but few of the activities actually happen. My parent has shown up at the appointed place and time and there was no Oakmont staff there--just an empty room with nothing happening. Also there has been poor follow-through when we have had a concern or complaint about the apartment. Many of the individual caregivers and staff are kind and friendly, which is wonderful. And there have been instances of inappropriate behavior-- a housekeeper logged herself into her own Netflix account on my parent's smart TV, while my parent was away from their apartment. And a male night caregiver attempted to grope several female residents in their beds, and was subsequently arrested. So the hiring and background check process could be better.

We have been here about 6 months now, they are changing ownership and going through a transition which is impacting all of ratings which were better 6 months ago. I do feel my mom is overall safe and in good hands as a registered nurse myself.

My review of Holiday Sterling Place

This community has been ok so far, we're still trying to give them a chance. The activities were better when my loved one first moved in, but they have decreased. It seems like the Director is there sometimes and then other times not so much. The food has changed. I would have rated it at a 5 before, but it seems to be higher in sodium than it used to be. The kitchen staff is nice and always pleasant. I have recommended this facility to family and friends. There was a flood recently and my loved one is misplaced, but we're hoping things improve soon. I know it takes time!

Mama's Nightmare

The cleanliness, medication management and variety of activities could be greatly improved. That's why I found another place for her. Truly the industry needs attention. It's common, apparently, to not give care as promised, poorly trained staff, crappy food etc for exorbitant rates. They should all be ashamed
