friendly and caring staff during very difficult times

My husband was there only a few days under Hospice. The staff was professional and kind. And took a lot of care during his last days. Hospice was good but the Brookdale staff took the lead. I would absolutely recommend them.

Great if you don't need much assistance

It was not a good fit for my mom. Mom needed a lot of assistance and they did not provide it. She went to the hospital and never went back there. I can't recommend it except for people that are still independent enough to move themselves

There is not enough staff to deliver the care they say they will. The staff they do have are excellent and try their best, but they cannot do everything without more help. The food is great and they try hard to keep it interesting, pretty much the same as any assisted living.

Review for Brookdale Midlothian

The place is clean, quiet and serene. They are smaller, all on one level which is good. The staff is friendly. However, The nursing staff are in unpredictable on timing, they show up "whenever" and are slow to responding to falls. the Dr there mis-prescribed meds to my mother. They started giving her a med that she didn't need and also had an adverse effect. We had to order the meds to stop be dispensed. Ask for a call from the doc several times, never called. We think the nurse dispensed another resident's med to my mom.

Finding a caring extended family for your loved on

Be sure to have as many conversations with as many staff members as possible on visits. I visited 4 places and chose Brookdale because of how available and approachable the entire staff was on my visits. Speaks volumes about the commitment to care for their residents.

Difficult decision.

Pro: Cost layered so can adjust price some; friendliness; adequate room size; on site nurses. Con: Some weekends lack staff. Find out staffing schedule. Activities posted but not always fulfilled. Friendly, very good food, security.

ASL with highs and lows!

Love the building and the grounds. Inside could use some updating. Cleanliness is average. Food is good but very repetitive. Some caregivers go way above, some are just there for a paycheck Upper management promises a lot but does not always deliver. My mother who is there has declined in her physical abilities since being there and now depends on the staff for more and more. Sometimes the help doesn't come when it should. I believe they are short staffed. Lots of turnover in the two months we have been there. I would say just an average facility, some may be better, some worse. Luckily I live close by so I can keep a check on her.

Review for Brookdale Midlothian

Staff is very friendly and caring and the meals have been above average. My mom was in Assisted Living for one week and then memory care so we had a rocky start . Some of what the marketing team promised was not realistic according to the clinical staff .I have learned to dial back my expectations . She had been in assisted living elsewhere before so this was not new for us . As most places their has been some turnover with the staff .On the whole things are running smoothly now . My sister and I alternate going every evening to visit and help with nightly routine.

Experience started out promising in ALF but Memory unit Care was so unacceptable we had to take my uncle out of Brookdal

The overall experience for Assisted Living is a 3 but Memory Care is a 1. The activities in Memory Care also gets a 1. I took my family member out due to the horrible care and the [fee removed]price in memory care...

Review for Brookdale Midlothian

I picked them because I thought it looked homey. The facilitator assured us 100% they would have no issues and were equipped to take care of my father. He was there less than an hour and they had us come pick him up but made sure to charge us for services not rendered. I would not recommend to others.

Overall positive experience

These responses are based on information from July 2022- April 2023. Our family member passed away last year. We were overall pleased with facility. They did seem to be short staffed at times with aids, but that could have been related to Covid issues etc. our family member found herself trying to help others when aids were not around, which led to her fall my on atleast one occasion.

I recommend the AL for those that are self sufficient.. unfortunately everywhere seems to be understaffed and.........

There is a lack of consistent communication. The floor needs sweeping and mopping...we brought our own supplies to clean toilet . Everyone there is very sweet but due to the staffing shortage there are very few activities. My mom is in Memory Care .. she was moved from Assisted Living after 1 week. I recommend the AL for those that are self sufficient.. unfortunately everywhere seems to be understaffed and stretched pretty thin

Not Good

Very understaffed, which resulted in multiple disappointing experiences: room vacuumed 2x in 6 months; waited hours for scheduled shower help multiple times, had to locate med tech for failure to deliver nighttime meds. Bugs, including spiders, in the bed and closet. Tasteless food delivered cold. Woefully inadequate staff. No maintenance man, then when hired he works overtime in the understaffed dining room. Moved out after 6 months.

Staff are very friendly and do a great job planning activities for the residents. The facility was great a couple years ago. Unfortunately there has been a lot of turnover over the last year. The new ED is working hard to turn things around.

Staff is consistent, that's not a problem. Just numerous contact people.

There are too many contact people. We're constantly getting another name and #. Each shift has a different contact person and different contact people for nursing, aides, activities etc. My nephew is always updating me with another name. He finds it not too much of a problem because he visits several times times a week.

Horrible experience, lack of care and communication.

At this time8m very very upset with them. Got my sister's things out left some things outside by the door came back in 20 minutes, an antique chair was missing. Brand new lazy bot recliner still there but the chair was missing. I would not recommend Brookdale Midlothian to my worst enemy. Pick up the mattress pee and poop stains. I provided a waterproof mattress pad and chucks. They are horrible and very very over priced. While I was there the health dept came. Nobody was at the front desk and they weren't happy.

Our experience so far

My biggest concerns were move in process. I don't think there was enough time spent with the residents or family members. Also not always clear who I should call. The people attending to residents in memory care do seem to really care about residents. Based off of our experience, I would recommend Brookdale Midlothian to others looking.

Review for Brookdale Midlothian

Just the feeling that we got that it would be a good fit for my mom. I'd say that my mom is very happy to be there and they are taking great care of her.
