Good P.T. but Terrible Food

My husband stayed here in 2023 while getting his strength back following a hospital stay. I'd give The Pallazo good grades in physical therapy. Unlike some other nursing homes, The Pallazo has an indoor walkway where patients can get in their steps. An indoor walkway is very important if a patient is confined during the Phoenix summertime. High grades also go to the discharge nurse, who spent a great deal of time going over discharge instructions. Unfortunately, l have to give a failing grade to the chef and the kitchen staff. The food was terrible! Polish sausage was served almost every day. The meals looked extremely unappetizing. My husband, who is not a fussy eater, barely nibbled at his meals. I wound up bringing in meals from home during my husband’s stay at The Pallazo because he could not tolerate the in-house food. While The Pallazo has many good aspects, as l have noted above, the poor quality of patient meals is the reason l would not recommend a stay at The Pallazo.

The Palazzo review

The food was fine. Long walk to dining room, it is reasonable but costly. Yes, we would recommend The Palazzo if the facility is the right one. We moved her to [community name removed] which she likes better. Similar facility but she has friends there. Better mental health.

Overall a great place

In the last year that my friend was there, there was a bit of turnover in caregiver staff. Also they had a hard time keeping a driver for the van. But this is rampant in every business these days due to the bad economic conditions. I would recommend The Palazzo to others looking.

Disappointed

Disappointed in overall experience. The marketing of facility does not match reality of services. Marketing did not give full disclosure of pending sale of facility and because of this we have been having difficulties in resolving issues like no phone service or hot water in shower in room. These are just a few issues among many others that still have not been resolved since move in two months ago.

The Palazzo review

When it comes to the food, it is great in restaurant's but we could use more of a variety of bagels. The food in rehab tends to be cold. However, based on the experience we have had with The Palazzo, we would recommend them to other families.

Not a great experience

Please don't send your family here. The staff here are often annoyed, angry and not helpful. My mom moved in to independent living and they called me non stop the first weekend because she was asking too many questions (like where to get food and how to find an activity schedule). My mom's room was closer to assisted living, even though she was in independent living and the deli manager wouldn't feed her because he was confused as to which area she belonged to. I had to instacart her food so she could eat while they figured it out. When she moved in the floors were so dirty, the mop was black. I scrubbed the floors for hours and they were still dirty. the AC never worked properly, the door wouldn't lock the first two days we were there and the events were horrible. People who lived there were telling her to move if she could afford it because they were there due to not having money to pay for a nicer place. There was nothing good about this place. NOTHING>

Use your judgment

When I gave notice to move, 30 days is required. I gave more than a 30 day notice and was charged extra: $[removed]. I gave notice on [date removed] and moved out [date removed]. Was charged from [date removed] for the $[removed]. I was penalized for giving too much notice. I felt that was not a professional business practice. I had even contacted the business office that I wanted to give notice on [date removed], but was advised that I should just go with the original notice to vacate date of [date removed]. I was pretty disappointed because I needed that money a lot worse than the Palazzo. I felt like most of the staff was conscientious and efficient. Sometimes [name removed] would have to wait for help though. Food was good, sometimes not. He loved the music activities and the church services and Bible studies and the chair yoga, and the activities director, Marina. Overall good place, but had to move Gary because of the price increase per month, $[removed]. Just priced us out after a year.

When you need family help palazzo is a great place.

We looked at three places. One was perceived as low class. One was too small. Palazzo was "Just Right". If you need a place that will take care of a member of your family then call[name removed] in sales and move them in.

Stellar Staff

My parent has lived at The Palazzo for a few years in independent living and it has definitely been the right place for him. The staff is attentive and truly cares about the residents. Both staff and residents smile often and seem happy on a regular basis. The activity program is extensive and the happy hours at the bar are not to be missed. We also enjoy the music concerts held every Tuesday afternoon. The rates are better than most other places nearby and we have been very happy at the community.

overall satisfied but food needs improvements

My mother loves the activities their but complains about the food. The main reason we chose The Palazzo over other places we looked at was because of the large Jewish population. I would improve this facility as long as they improve the food quality. They keep promising that things are going to improve soon.

Worst Senior Living Community in the Greater Phoenix Area

This facility has to be one of the worst senior living communities in the greater Phoenix area. Horrible staff, terrible management, and they only care about are the dollars that they can extract from the residents. My father has been treated awful by the staff and recently had to relocate to the assisted living section of the community which in my opinion is where they send people to die. My father was reluctant to move since he had his own apartment and had his dog that is his only friend and companion since none of his family lives in the state. They would not allow my father to take his beloved dog to the assisted living section and talked him into letting one of the staff members adopt his dog, which he agreed to since the staff member said that she would bring my fathers dog to visit him weekly. I came to find out just recently that the person who works at the Palazzo and took my fathers dog, lost the dog only after having custody of the dog for one month.

Highly recommend The Palazzo for Independent Living.

Beautiful and modern inside, lots of activities, excellent food. Staff is friendly, approachable, and management is very present in the community. I felt they were very careful and thorough in assessing our very complicated needs. I would, and actually have, highly recommend.

My Tour Experience at The Palazzo

I liked the community and it was nice. It came down to how quickly a community was ready and available for my loved one. My loved one preferred another apartment at a different community.

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Arizona regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Arizona regulations for Assisted Living.

A Place for Mom has scored The Palazzo 9.2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.

Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
