Not equipped to care for my Father

Unfortunately, my Father no longer lives here. We loved the facility, but they truly aren’t equipped or staffed to handle Frontal Temporal Dementia. They couldn’t check on him as often as needed or manage the level of care he requires. It is a shame that care facilities “triage and assess” potential residents and assures the family that the care they provide will care for your ailing family member. I will commend the staff here for fully refunding the amount we paid for Dad’s one month there.

It has not been a great initial experience.

We thought Brighton Gardens was going to be a great place. Hotel wise it is, it's beautiful, and the food is good, but the care is seriously lacking. It's just not what they said it was going to be. There is a lack of follow up and follow through. The assessment process may not be ideal either. Things have not panned out to be the way, I feel they were presented. I am starting to see improvements, but it has not been a great initial experience.

Thought Kay was very good and knowledgeable. Facility felt older than it's 14 years. For some reason did not like that memory care on 3rd floor via elevator. Westmont and The Commons 1st floor facilities. Most expense of 3 visited and had a medication management fee which other two did not mention. Will have to double check on that. Not the Care She Needed

Our friend was just in the assisted care. We feel that things might have been different if she was in the special care unit for dementia. In assisted care they expect them to take care of themselves basically but by then she was really beyond that point. They only cleaned her room once a week and when food was spilled on the floor they didn't clean it up. I know that really wasn't their job because she wasn't in special care but we felt that they should have kept it cleaner. cypress was actually financially really good for us but it was just at the point where she needed more care. She shouldn't have been there as long as she was. The special care unit was too pricey for us so we moved her.

Disappointing

Our family had high hopes that Tre-Vista Concord (TV) would be "the answer" for our family member with Parkinson's. We provided full disclosure prior to her admittance, and her medical records were made available to TV. Although the site claims to provide "24 hour supervision" (as required by law; supervision that must be differentiated according to the needs of the patient/resident), this was not the case at TV, and well documented by during 2 months, six hospital ER admits by our family member. Ultimately she has now been 35 days in a Rehabilitaion Care facility (and is still being charged ($) by TV). There are numerous noncompliances with law. TV may be an appropriate site for someone w/o medical needs, and meets the simple definition of assisted living; or the extreme of memory care. It is not for those in between those parameters.

Saddened by what I’m seeing! - Family/Friend
Memory Care
August 17, 2024
Disappointed and Sad!

I was so excited when I learned my father was going to be placed here. Now I am crying as I write this. Although we are paying for services I haven’t seen one person check on him. It’s been three hours. The place is a ghost town after 5pm. When I went to ask for help, the care giver was on her cell phone and didn’t acknowledge me. She then stated she’s the only one on the floor and it’s not even her floor. It breaks my heart to think that if my father falls (and he has) that he’s on the floor until someone finds him. Pretty much a staff member confirmed that’s the case. Where is the dignity in that? Where is the service for the money we’re paying? Where’s the care? I thought this place would be different, but I see that it’s not. At least not for the Memory Care Floor.

Wins the Beauty Pageant

I found the staff a mixed bag. The admission person was very nice until I decided to remove my mom. The day of the move, he saw me and went into his office, shut the door. The activities winnable is kind and awesome. The memory care woman isn't very good. They moved my mom from senior living to memory care. They didn't transfer anything but her body. He medicine wasn't there. She went several days without her medication. I had to ask about it. Her new room had someone else's clothes in the closet and they began dressing my mom in those clothes. They didn't bathe my mom until I asked. That memory care side was terrible. My mom said she felt like she was in prison surrounded by crazy people. They forgot to program my mom's wristband to alarm if she fit near the exit. My mom got out, NO ONE NOTICED. I waited in my mom's room because I thought she was at lunch. My mom was found, in her bathrobe in the parking lot of an adjacent apartment bldg. My mom fell out of her bed and lay bleeding. She had to get stitches. No one is watching, checking it noticing. A perfect example is that when my mom got out of the facility, someone delivered her lunch to her room... but didn't report her missing. This place is beautiful on the outside but nothing inside. I always say it wins the beauty contest.

Actual cost is not given, They give you the base price, then you receive the bill!

Before you decide to move here ask for additional cost. You can quickly go from the base price to twice or even more. Seems the "assisted" part will cost you more! They refuse to tell you what they are charging you for when they double or even more each month. To be able to live here and to keep the base price you to have no help of any kind. And the will bill you monthly for giving you your required prescriptions. [amount removed]a month even if it one or two prescriptions, and even it over the counter! That is not counting the cost of your drugs they obtain from a local company that supplies your presciptions. Also, if you are ill, or having loose bowels, etc., you have to go down to the dining room or be charged [fee removed] for each meal they bring to your room. In other words you can be on your " death bed" and you are suppose to Get out of you get and go down to the dining room! All in all they will find ways with excuses to increase your bill. Ask them to itemize their charges. Good luck!

A Trial and Error

I placed my husband here at Country House in Elkhorn on Jan 10, 2022. Its very new and well kept and the staff was very kind. But the cares that were promised did not happen from the beginning. He has edema in his legs , therefore leg wraps needed to be put on every day and edema pumps were to be on his legs for an hour a day. This did not happen for at least two weeks. He was to be cued to go to the restroom and I never saw that occur (and I was there most days for long periods of time.) nor did any of his visitors witness this. Joe did like it okay , always wanted to go home, but I think that was a normal reaction. The most compelling reason for our decision to find another facility was the significant increase in cost over a one month period. So we gave notice on Feb 11, 2022 and moved him as soon as I could research and visit other facilities and make a decision. And also I reached out to AGEMARK, the corporation that owns CH , never a call back. That’s inexcusable!!!

It Used To Be Good

I am living here almost five years. A new corporation took over called Trevista. This Summer during a heat advisory which said on the news how important it is for elderly people to be in air conditioning they don't put on the a/c in the dining room in a timely fashion. The dining room is sweltering like eating in a sauna during the hottest part of the day. Not every day but too many days. The people who really care about residents do not own or run the facility and are the housekeepers, caregivers, activities director and maintenance.

It was a nice enough place, but the person giving me tour made it perfectly clear that I was not on their choice list, made even more clear with their followup email saying they could not work with me in breaking out the huge unexpected sign in costs into reasonable payments.

Poor Management

Beautiful facility with VERY poor management, high caregiver turnover and poor communication with families. It is a shame because the facility itself is wonderful. So much to offer the residents.

Food is not good

Dining room is open from 7:30 to 7:00 but it seems chef has never opened a cookbook and doesn't care. My 1-br costs <fee removed>. $150 worth of gift cards disappeared from my room. There are no black residents so they just hired a second director of sales who is black in hopes of solving that problem. I estimate there are only About 50 residents and half are in Memory Care. 4 floors, 27 rooms per floor. Food was just as bad as [community removed] where staff was friendly but laundry was stolen. Management didn't care. Older, uglier building, smaller rooms, some without overhead lighting fixtures, one resident didn't even have a fridge in her studio. I'm 81 and the thought of moving again is out of the question. Never thought I'd die hating where I live. They all just want your money.
