Silverado Senior Living

My wife and I toured nine local senior living facilities within a two month period. Our Mother had mental disease. We chose Silverado because they really cared and specialized in dimentia. We liked that all their residents interacted with each other, and we especially liked that they welcomed small cats and dogs, who are important to seniors and their comfort. We highly recommend Silverado and their terrific caring staff. Our Mom passed away there, and my brothers and I were in attendance. That's always hard, of course, but it was the best for Mom at the end. Thanks especially to Kim Wentink (wonderful Family Ambassador, who has now been replaced with an equally caring person named Courtney) and all the nursing and financing staff. They were all honest, caring, and loving. Unlike other facilities, Silverado gives you everything at one price. Because they specialize in Memory Care, they knew that Mom would get worst eventually, but that's what they're all about, so they don't nickel and dime you. They really care.

My loved one is doing quite well here! She seems very happy, and looks like she is really enjoying herself. The staff are very attentive, and always very willing to engage both with the residents and with family members. They've also been very accommodating throughout the whole process.

It’s really just beautiful! I tell everybody they need to come here! This is just a genuine community. The food is delicious! Family members are always welcome to meals – we even had a birthday party here! The staff members know everyone by their first names, and are very personable. You can tell that the residents really listen to and respect the staff. Also, they have 8-9 activities a day!! With things like chair yoga, music, paintings, and field trips once a week, no one is ever in their rooms or sitting and watching TV. They are at the top end, price wise, but it is always immaculate! On a clear day, you can see the ocean from here. There’s a swimming pool and BBQs in the summer. There are lots of nice dogs and even two miniature horses! We would recommend this place to anyone!!

Wow, I can't say enough good things about this place! The cost is high, but you definitely get what you pay for - even more than 24 hr care! They are very well-staffed, and for memory care, that is extremely important! We mainly chose Silverado because they are exclusively memory care. The staff is aware of the resident's needs, and go above and beyond to attend to them! They will stay up with them at night, and let the resident's wander around if they want to (in a safe environment, of course). Also, they gave us material to read to help with the transition process, which was extremely helpful! My advice would be to consider that a shared room is not what you think. The resident's are only in their rooms to sleep. We are very very happy with this decision!

My Mom has been at Silverado almost 2 months. So far I am very impressed. It has a huge outdoor area with lots of outdoor furniture and the halls are unlocked during the day. this gives the residents with memory issues, a sense of freedom. The nurses work closely with the primary doctors to adjust meds for quality of life, but never over-medicate. hence it is a lively place. The excellent caregivers balance resident's dignity, happiness and safety. The meals are high quality and nutritious. There are an average of 12 activities a day to choose from, which vary and rotate. There are 24 hour sandwiches, ice cream and cookies available. Best is that there are several resident dogs and one cat. The administration and staff have been very supportive of our family as we go through this difficult transition. We are always welcome to share a meal there, go on a field trip, etc.

What really struck me about this place is how amazingly friendly the staff are! They are very caring towards the residents, and show just as much friendliness and compassion to the families and visitors. All hugs, no handshakes at Silverado.

My mother seems to like it a lot when I take her there. They have different activities, they bake, they paint her nails. She would tell me she was dancing while she was there. Everyone knew her name and was very friendly. They have a lot of staff walking around, and it's more bright and cheery.

The care is very good. The thing that was most important in choosing Silverado is the fact that it's so gigantic. I don't know what it is - 5000 - 6000 sq ft - it's gigantic and my father is still ambulatory so that's good. For someone with dementia who is still totally ambulatory there is not other option. All the others were way too small. At Silverado there is a lot of space to walk around. It's also in a good neighborhood so he can takes walks outside. The atmosphere is very busy. It feels like you're on a campus. They separate the people who are ambulatory and the second level is for people that are much further along in their dementia. For my father, it's much better to be with other ambulatory people.

My mother-in-law was there for a period of time, and it was a really great facility. Very, very nice. For a number of reasons, she we had to move her out and into a smaller group home. We didn't take her out for any type of dissatisfaction with Silverado or their staff, but she was getting a little confused being around so many people. If the group home doesn't work out for whatever reason, we would have no hesitation moving her back here.

Beautiful grounds and facility, lots of activities in the community. Staff was friendly but seemed to almost 'put on a Show'...

It's my mom who is there and it's going fine. All is well. There was a little trouble doing the paperwork for CalPERS in September but we got that all straightened out. We're really delighted with the care that mom gets there. The staff is great! They're always in good moods. I think we're pretty please all in all. She has a lovely roommate, very nice person. There are nothing but good things to say. Mom always is dressed nicely they do her nails every week. She goes to the beauty salon on Thursdays. The hospice workers are good. One comes on Sundays and reads to mom. Everything is great.

They're excellent! They were great with communication but granted it's a huge place with lots of nurses and all kinds of stuff going on. If there were any issues or concerns with my mother they would give me a little call day or night. It's really large and dedicated to memory care. I moved my mom out purely because of economics. That would be the only reason for anyone to leave, I would think. They have everything that everybody could want but their fees are at the top of the price range. If you're financially able to keep your loved one there, you won't be disappointed.

This was like the Cadillac of all such places but it was fabulously expensive. It was nice but then some of the things that were nice about it didn't really interest me. It has a very large property but there was no way they could get out and they could meet their needs for wandering. That doesn't apply to my husband. They had a very comprehensive med distribution that I'm sure was great but if you have drug prescription insurance that was going to be complicated. It had to be packaged in a certain way. I believe it also had a nurse and probably a doctor on site all the time which most places don't have. It really met a lot of needs. We didn't see any of the patients or residents that were more advanced. I don't know what the options were like for them. The ones we saw were either walking around or sitting around in a very nice environment.

They were excellent. If money was not an issue I would have put my mother there, no question. It's expensive but they have a flat rate that includes everything. I could eat there everyday and it would be free. It's hard because you don't know how long they're going to live and that extra couple thousand a month really adds up. I don't want her to run out of money.

We think they're fabulous! I'd give the staff a 10 if I could. They have lots of activities. They have the red hat club, bus rides to the beach, singing, Sunday services, movies, and they make their flower arrangements for the dining room. We're very happy that we found them. We looked at a few other place but this seemed like it would be best for my mother. She likes it most of the time and she loves the food.

I have been there several times to visit her and I think it's a pretty wonderful place as a matter of fact. She's doing very well there and all my interactions in the staff have all been very positive. I haven't seen anything that I've disliked about them. Obviously there's always a complaint about the food. No institutional food is as good as home cooking. I think that's pretty normal. I think it's an excellent facility. It's not one of those cases where it's a terrible chore to go there. It's a pleasure to go there and interact with all of the people. There is never a negative vibe.

Visited on September 12. The location was in a quiet and peaceful spot at the base of the mountains in Azusa. The grounds were spacious and the facility was homelike with pets and plants.(children are welcome, though I did not see any that day) Plenty of space to wander. 24 hour nursing care and meets the needs of residents through all stages of Alzheimer's. Price is more affordable than 'The Huntington'.

Visited on August 8....Beautifully restored historic home. There were dogs, children and visitors. It seemed to be vibrant compared to other memory centers previously visited. A little pricier, but it maybe worth it. I liked that they specialize in memory care.
