A Place for Mom has scored Harmony Senior Services with 8.4 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 515 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Harmony Senior Services has 1,433 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 3.9 out of 5.
Residents turn over way too high. High quality facility not close. After 3 years I will hit the road in 2025. I would not put my mother here. Ask the other residents who arrive in 2021 and 2022, they will likely agree. The property has a good product however management is disgusting. Staff leave routinely so do residents. If you are looking for a property to represent a home for mom, this is not the place. Continue the search. Freely ask others.

My Mother moved to [community name removed] in May of 2024. Things have absolutely improved for the better and she is very happy there. Our experience at Brookberry was less than stellar. Staff and management communication was inconsistent and unreliable in part because it is totally a revolving door of employees. Example in the two years there we had 5 directors of nursing and at length of time there was no one. The staff on the floors seemed to have very little training. Some were caring with Mother but others stood behind the nurses station and discussed what time they were leaving. In the several times weekly we visited we discussed among ourselves that there was just such limited interchange with the residents. The last final thing was when Mother fell and no one notified us even though she had bruises in her body and face. We then made the change. It is a beautiful , inviting space. I give a 4 to the meals initially and a 3 when she left. The dining room is very nice and inviting. Activities: Initially , there were some activities , eventually just bingo and then just tv and very bored residents. Value for the money: as Mother was in memory care we expected more in terms of patient time with staff and interaction. That was not present to my family . At[fee removed] per month , this was a lot of money for what she received. I rented the largest room available and that added to the price but I give the value a 2. She basically rented a room and was fed. Sorry to sound so negative on Brookberry. It is a beautiful facility but obviously management needs to relook at everything.

I am likely moving my Dad out of facility before end of year. They have had constant turnover at all levels. Seems to have very high turnover and staff is hard to find when there is an issue. Almost non-existent communication from medical staff unless they need you to help them negotiate a behavior from your loved one.

Poor ratio of nurses/CNAs to residents. Need to hire more nurses/CNAs. Staff needs more training. Lack of communication with resident and even among themselves. For example, resident and family are ignored when request to meet to discuss quality of their care. Meds are not distributed on time. Sometimes resident receives meds an hour to 2 hours later. Baths are not given on required days as assigned. With the exception of meds and meals, AL resident is expected to do everything for themselves. The facility needs a better billing system/process. Resident is retaliated against when they complain.

Mom was moved back home after the hospice Dr told my sisters and I she was dying. The staff wasn't taking care of her personal needs and failed to get her medication to her in the latter weeks prior to het death. So my sister who was her primary care giver decided to move her home where she could pass peacefully with her family around her. The elder care for dementia patients in general is extremely inadequate and frankly cruel to the loved one and the entire family. Something needs to change in a major way. It was a horrific experience for all of my family. Staff needs better training and retention to the facility for the sake of the patient/resident. The employee turnover rate is a real problem. Management made promises they could not support.

They do not have it together. Lot of turnover in staff and admin. Care level was poor. Mom would be in a wet pull up all day. They just dropped food in her room instead of encouraging her to go down and dine. Short staffed constantly. Many weekends with 2 people to cover to floors. Management not nice to staff . I could go on and on. They should keep to independent living.

My mom currently resides in independent living. We are coming up on a year of her living there and in that time, it has been a revolving door of employees. Two directors, three Enrichment Directors, too many cooks to keep track of and changes in business office staff too. My mom loves her apartment and the full kitchen and laundry in her room and the spaciousness of the unit BUT the revolving door of employees is bothersome. There have been a few mornings when there has been no cook to prepare breakfast…mom can make her own but those in assisted living may not be able to do that. The calendar for activities looks great but mom has gone to things but nothing is happening. I don’t even think anyone is there to run the activities. The second executive director was great but he left abruptly. He was finally making positive changes and we had hope that improvements were coming…now, he’s gone too. For the price each month, it is very questionable as to what we get. Can’t get answers either!

The manager of the facility divides his time between another facility. When I asked to be included in the meeting to determine the level of care my person required I was told by the chief health manager that she does not schedule these meetings, she just does them when she wants to. IlTwice she spoke to my person (who was suffering from cognitive difficulties) without letting me know. She determined she was capable of assisted living after a short visit (that I was not in attendance for) and recommended her for Harmony without getting the complete picture. It was a hard sales pitch from the person responsible for such things- assuring me this would be perfect for her. I do not feel as though the management listened closely enough when I expressed my persons needs and issues arose. The general staff seemed qualified and caring with one or two exceptions. But those “at the top,” while they could call everyone by name seem disconnected from the needs of their staff and residents.

I would say that this a glorified elder apartment. The move in was horrible--the room wasn't clean, lost paperwork. There is no communication with the families. Turnover is constant. Generally it looks clean, but my mom's apartment doesn't get vacuumed regularly--to the point I think I need to bring in a vacuum. No one empties the fridge and the trash can stays in the room for days. Laundry service is questionable. We have towels, clothing that aren't my mom's. The staff for meals are friendly enough, but they don't take direction like softer, easy to chew foods work better for my mom. They let her choose and then she can't eat it. That said, she's still gaining weight so she's finding something to eat. They seem to base care around a metric, and by care I really mean charges. I've found that even when we met with the staff and explained that she needed reminders to go to activities, they increased her rate, but still don't remind her. Trying to get re-evaluated is at least a 6 month process. Fortunately, she seems to be safe and she has remained healthy (minus the dementia). The process was so traumatic for both my mom and our family, we're terrified to try again. We do plan to bring her back home when socializing doesn't seem to be an added value in her life and she needs real care. Would I recommend? Again, maybe if all the loved one needed was an apartment with 24 hour staff available.

As a family member we were disappointed to see our beloved ED resigned. She was very accommodation to our complaints and she gets the job done. She is dearly missed. The memory care needs more staff and the maintenance director is of no use. I see him time and time again being aggressive toward the residents/ very argumentative. If the past ED was here she would have certainly address his behavior. We missed [name removed] as well who goes above and beyond. Please bring [name removed] back she was the best. [Name removed] is Awesome. I am happy that she decided to stay. The facility is poor constructed and if the AC is not working, the main toilet next to IL has bet out of service, or the constant fire alarm. I am planning to take my love one out of this place. [Name removed] if you see this review, please reach out to us. We have a few family members will like to follow you. We are pleading for the corporate office to listen and do something.

Too expensive and 0 communication. Impossible to get in the building without unreasonably long wait times...up to 20 minutes. I have made official complaints told I would be sent an email confirmation and never did. I could go on. Good things - close to my house and clean. Only for the wealthy with lots of time and patience to chase people down for answers...and then again when you dont get any.

Harmony advertises all these amenities that they do not provide. Their food is awful, the cleaners are in and out of the apartments in minutes and don’t clean well, or don’t show up at all. It’s expensive and not at all what they advertise it to be. We are very disappointed in this company. They are letting people move in the independent living that obviously need to be in assisted living. They don’t handle what they say they are going to handle. Getting repairs done can take weeks or months. It’s obvious the company is all about making money and cut corners that affect the residents. The best thing is the people that live there …… they are very nice.

Loved one lived in Memory Care which appears to be the neglected section of Harmony compared to rest of facility. Depressing decor that is brown, tan and sparse, nothing to cheer up or stimulate minds of residents. Observed most residents parked in front of a community tv all day with staff frequently on their phones not interacting with residents. No therapy to slow cognitive decline, activity was coloring, game shows and occasionally singing/music. Frequently encountered the smell of urine when entering wing. Loved one paid for incontinence care which was inconsistently provided, so it is not surprising that the smell was prominent. Unappetizing and low cost food served, my loved one was often not retrieved for meals, there seemed to be no routine practices to do so and those with memory issues seemed to be expected to know when to go to dining room for meals. Lots of temps, few permanent employees. A very basic level of care that felt more like a kennel than compassionate care.

If I could give them a negative number, I absolutely would. I would never recommend this to anyone in fact, I would tell everyone to run the opposite direction. My parents did not have air-conditioning for three months this past summer, and they only brought them one standalone air conditioner for the first two months. And that was in a two bedroom apartment so they had to sleep in their recliners in the living room. The third month they brought them a second unit for in their bedroom, but they could not use the majority of their apartment for that entire three month and they never gave us any kind of compensation for that. Same thing with the dining, so many people have complained about how they can't even eat the food because it's not edible. In fact, it's not even safe because they are constantly getting cold food that should be hot and hot food that should be cold that they can't even chew because it's so dry and people, my parents included, have gotten food poisoning, and the Noro virus from their food, and some people have even had to go to the hospital for days because of it. And they will not adjust the price regardless of how terrible their food is they will not give us a credit off of our rent even though meal a day is built into their rent, and the food is mostly not edible. We've also had problems with The cleaner coming in for less than 15 minutes, and not cleaning large portions of the apartment (which has happened on a regular basis) and even though we've complained and many other people have complained, they have not given anybody any credits of their rent for not getting the cleaning that was promised us. Also, they talk about transportation to and from doctors appointments, however, there's only one person who drives people to doctors appointment for the entire building and he is also the person who drives people to outside events so the majority of the time I have to take my parents to their appointment or they have to pay for transportation, and they are not the only ones who do that it happens every day and despite the complaints, nobody is getting any compensation for that either. Also...They promised that they provide 24/7 emergency service, but they don't. There have been several times where my parents have pulled the string for the emergencies system, and three different times the string broke, and nobody came. my mom had to call down to the front desk to get help but nobody answered it just kept ringing and then it went into a voicemail so she had to call 911 by herself. There was one time that she did get in touch with someone downstairs but they sent the nurse and the nurse said she couldn't help him and she would have to call 911 and that was 20 minutes after my mom got in touch with someone downstairs and said that my dad had fallen on the floor so for 20 minutes they knew he was on the floor and nobody called 911 or came to see how he was doing or said you have to call 911 yourself. And they offer a life alert type pendant that you can pay for on a monthly basis through them which is supposed to go straight to the nurses but it actually rings at the front desk and there's not someone at the front desk all the time. During the day when they take breaks, they just leave a sign up that says they're on break and when they'll return and after 10 o'clock nobody's there. And even though they're not really providing that service that they said that they were going to provide, we still have not gotten any compensation for that either. The front desk is not always staffed during the day, not only because they are taking a break, but also because they have the receptionist/concierge, waiting tables in the dining room, because they can't keep employees. There have been times that the activities director has been waiting tables and the cleaning manager has been waiting tables in the evening after she worked all day cleaning apartments. They've also had many people leave from the kitchen, not just waiters, because they have gotten frustrated and left to go find a better job. And unfortunately, some of the most people were actually the better people in the kitchen and on the wait staff. Additionally, they are on their fourth Center Director since December 2022 when they moved in, but they also had three intermittent directors from other locations and a regional operations manager come in to help out when all three of those directors just quit on the spot and walked out. I've called the county both the health department and also the people who inspect the building and they said that there's very little they can do to help and we are shopping around for attorneys right now to see if we can get some kind of refund of the money that they've spent, while we are out looking for another place for them. Unfortunately, there were other problems that I didn't even bring up to you, smaller problems, but they all add up to. This is a terrible company and a terrible facility, with so very few things going right. And I did give them a higher rating for friendliness because people will smile and be nice to your face but nobody's fixing any of the problems.

My mother (and my late stepfather) are residents there. My mother is now wheelchair dependent, and dependent on quite a bit of care, but the staff keeps leaving. There’s no one to answer any of the emergency call lights. Meds used to be brought to her room on time for her morning dosages.(she’s on cardiac drugs.) but they were told they had to come down to the first floor to pick up their meds themselves. If they can’t, they have to wait till noon to get the medication’s. They are losing all their nurses/techs because there’s not a lot of support from management. I feel for the cost of this facility the care needs to improve rapidly, it’s not acceptable.
