A Place for Mom has scored MBK Senior Living with 9 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 343 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, MBK Senior Living has 1,890 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.4 out of 5.
My mom moved in over a year ago. The food has dropped in quality since she moved in. Breakfast is good dinner is aweful. The family quit eating there because it is so bad. Chicken every other day. Same soup for lunch and dinner. Very little flavor. I found they give them a lot of carbs and very little protein. Blue Bunny Ice Cream for lunch and dinner 290-340 calories and over 50% fat let alone the high sugar???? The activities are almost non existent compared to other facilities. A video that they call excercise but maybe 3% of the people go as it is the same videos for a year while the director of activities sits in her office. No bus trip to fun places they don't even want to take you to the doctor but call Uber or Lyft for you which all the other facilities accommodate Dr Appointments. Really??? Someone needs to help this facility as it keeps dropping in quality.

My dad was not very happy with how pushy and aggressive the sales guy was that gave us a tour of this community. It made my dad a little uncomfortable and he wanted nothing to with this place after we had left the facility. I thought the overall establishment was very clean and nicely maintained on a positive note.

Mom is still adjusting to living at Inn at Greenwood Village. We have had some minor issues since she moved in but we are hoping things are going to improve. The food is not that good. The staff are about half good and the other half is not as good. The community is very clean and pretty. They do offer a lot of activities for the residents to enjoy.

My grandmother is staying at this community and so far it has been okay. I feel that at times the community is understaffed. The food here is not good to my grandmother, she says it's dry, bland, and low quality. I find the facility pretty clean. If someone needs assistance I would recommend this community.

My mother was charmed by the friendliness of the residents and staff at The Firs. It may have blinded her to some of its shortcomings, but I hope she will be happy there for some period of time. I fear that she will need more care in the future, and we will have to arrange to have outside help come in to provide it. She thinks the food is terrible, and that is very disappointing. One of the main things I looked forward to with this move was her getting better nutrition and not needing to cook herself (for safety reasons, among others), but she often does not eat the food provided because it is too rich and/or unpalatable. I would recommend that they update their cuisine to reflect current nutritional and health science. I know it is more time intensive to prepare fresh food, but it is so important for good health. She is losing weight since living there. . . .

This place over promotes itself and puffs excessively about attributes it does not have. This seems to be 'normal' for this type of living facility but it is infuriating to realize your loved one has been misled and lied to. The marketing people have let in people who really need assisted living or memory care. This takes away from my loved ones health who looked forward to a stimulating environment. They also do respite care. Building, grounds are nice, generally quite clean with pretty native landscaping.. Units are OK but be careful about the marketing pressure and misstatements. No A/C in units. Residents not allowed to have open doors to benefit from A/C during long heat waves in 2015. No obvious attempt to have cooling activities or plan if power went out. Temps in my relative's apartment have exceeded 90 degrees. Management has been a huge problem, lots of turnover, unqualified staff in part because WA laws are too lax on this type of facility. There have been several firings of long term much trusted and beloved staff based upon bias of a one or two employees. There is a new manager, the third in three years, who appears to be making changes but people are uncomfortable fearing she will leave too. Too many staff do not understand the psychological needs of a geriatric population. This has a huge impact on quality of life. Nor the physical needs - for example, new cutlery just arrived. It is heavy and big and difficult for especially women to handle. One maintenance person shampooed carpets with excessive soap then didn't suction properly. My feet actually burned from chemicals. This shouldn't happen but glad it did when I was here for it might not have been corrected. Most of the quite limited activities are result of residents - yoga is taught by a resident, without her there would be no yoga. Discussion group was destroyed by a new uneducated staff member who did the talking, topic selection, when the residents had a strong group running on there own. Too bad as this provided the intellectual stimulation this place claims to promote. Dinner starts at 4pm, much too early for people to spend afternoons away. The place is like a mausoleum by about 630pm. It's done to hire inexpensive, but trained high school students as servers (who do a good job). The food comes off a truck, pre-packaged, full of preservatives. Lots of additives including MSG. Very little fresh food. There IS NOT A CHEF ON STAFF, probably never has been. Some residents have actually gone into the kitchen to teach cooks how to do job. They have just hired a new head cook who seems to have plans for more fresh food. This is positive. I have hopes that new management will improve this place. It certainly isn't what is advertised on the website or promoted by some marketers. That said there are some lovely residents. Too bad there generation doesn't speak up about concerns but it's so against their generation to complain up (they talk to each other). While these are my views everything in this has been said by numerous residents. Note the picture does not reflect the reality of the units that are beige on beige on pale yellow unless changed at owners expense.

Wellington is a lovely place with nice apartments. My father resided there almost two years. If your parent(s) is healthy it is a nice facility, but once medications or assists come into play you need to watch them carefully for med administration timing and PLEASE check your loved ones Emergency Call Button as my father's hadn't been working and he said 'no one ever came' when he used it; no wonder! This is imperative in a facility where seniors are prone to falls. My father passed mid-month and PLEASE be aware even in death you must give 30 days notice, I'd paid several thousand ($5K) for under 1/2 a month and got less than a thousand back in the form of a refund; plus they take an upfront deposit so they make a ton of money from turnover and at end of life which makes it even harder for grieving families. The staff Are nice and work hard, but they are understaffed and under monitored. Be vigilant for your loved one, which was hard for me out-of-state so I made frequent trips. The food is adequate; nice dining area. If your parent(s) are relatively healthy it's a very nice facility, just make sure to stay Engaged and Read the Contract (my sister signed my dad up there so I did not know the 30 day clause; otherwise I would have moved dad to a SNF.) There is a very nice, kind new RN there named Lisa who helped at the end of dad's life and that was comforting. It is a business, but tough on a fixed income.

Cottonwood Creek is a pleasant facility. Bright and newly remodeled areas. The hands on staff is very kind and know many resident's by name. The receptionists are extremely nice to lukewarm which I find important as this is the one person you always see when you visit. The food is a problem and the kitchen is extremely slow. The serving staff is very kind and patient and appears to care about the residents. I must say that it appears that changes are happening in the dining area to better serve the residents. The food is not always great, sometimes it is just how it is presented on the plate that turns the appetite. I want this place to be so much better it has huge potential but what they tell you at the initial visit, the little details that sell you on the facility fall short. The orientation of the family and the resident just did not happen. The invitation to activities and the activity staff meeting with the resident and inviting them for awhile did not happen. The medication details and nursing issues took some time to get organized. The visit by a resident counsel and making sure someone ate with the resident the first couple of weeks did not happen. However, there are some wonderful residents and they do notice if someone is new. The follow through from what administration promised was just bumpy. The cost is competitive. And I think Cottonwood Creek wants to be a 5 five star facility and cares about the residents. It is difficult to care for the residents and meet all the family demands. I do hope continued improvements will take place.

So my review of the Wellington is quite mixed. It started out fantastically. The sales pitch was beautiful and they seemed to care about their residents. The place is beautiful, the staff friendly, and the residents seem cheerful. Unfortunately, my grandfather is a stubborn old man and made this as tough a transition as he could muster. However, their handling of his issues left a lot to be desired. They took away his power chair, which, to be fair, he did have a few mishaps. A secretary told me, though, that there were other residents who had gotten into far more accidents that still had their power chairs. Their manager also decided to tell me that my entire generation was disrespectful, which was a tad rude, especially as I was a potential customer, by myself, trying to find a place for my grandfather to live, and had said nothing even close to rude or disrespectful to her. They also took several weeks to get the internet and cable in his room working, and turned off the stove without telling anyone, which was fantastic on Christmas morning, when we brought food to be cooked and could not cook it. I understand that it had to be turned off, but it would be a good thing to know. We also spent the entire time hearing different answers about their pet policy. He has a german shepherd and the first people we met with said he would be able to keep her, then the next group said no. It turned into us asking everyone we came across, and most had different answers. Finally, and potentially most importantly, they told us that in order for him to remain there, he needed to be a one person transfer, or in therapy working to become one. They started therapy last week. He's 97, with a bum knee. This week, they say it's not going to work because he's a two person transfer. I'm not sure how much progress a 97 year old can be expected to make in one week, but we had been led to believe it would be a bit longer than a week. All-in-all, it's a nice place, but I have the impression that the reason their residents are so happy is because they're so cherry picked. It's hard to last here, and for the seemingly stupidest of reasons. Hopefully, in the future, they are a little better equipped to actually work with people who need assistance, rather than push them out the door as fast as possible.

Overall it's a really nice place, but the upper management just doesn't seem to follow through on things they say they will do. There were a myriad of things that they said they were going to do that they didn't and some of the things were fairly basic yet they didn't happen until I complained. I don't know if it's because they are understaffed/overwhelmed or its a training issue but it is very irritating. I have even called the corporate office and the first two calls were not returned, the third one finally was. The food is about a 3.5 out of 5, it's pretty good. The day to day staff are awesome! Everyone at Palisades is very friendly and my mother does like it there, I just wish they would hold themselves more accountable for what they say will do or simply not say it. Note: my mother is in Independent Living so the "care services" rating is really NA. - John T

Cottonwood Creek is a half-decent place, not bad at all. There's nothing particularly impressive about it, but they keep it clean and they're very reliable when it comes to the medication services. They provide 3 meals a day (whether you like the food is a different story). The rooms are a decent size, and the price is around 2500 a month.

They were okay. They just weren't able to accommodate the level of care we needed anymore. They are an independent living community that allows home health to come in. They are in the process of getting assisted living certification. The staff were hard working but they just didn't go out of their way to be friendly. My loved one was also always complaining about the food.

Here is what we liked about Oakdale: Services - such as visits to the bank, doctors offices, grocery stores, trips to Wal-Mart, scenic drives... Laundry service Activities such as Happy Hour and onsite chapel All inclusive meal program (and everything else for that matter, minus internet) Life Alert type services for all residents Price was very reasonable for what they offered Location to our house Pet's accepted If you move from independent living to assisted living, the service comes to you - changing rooms or buildings is not necessary Pricing is up front and listed in their website Here is what we did not like about Oakdale: The front of the building was very nice, but the hallways, dining areas and rooms were a little tired With all due respect to them, the residents we encountered seemed very old. My mom's immobility is decreasing but her mind is fine and I just don't think she's quite at that stage yet. It's hard to describe, but I hope you know what I mean.
