My dad lived at River Ridge for a year. He loved it. A week after he moved in he fell and fractured his wrist. In spite of it being 9:30PM on a Sunday evening, the nurse on duty called me immediately to let me know my father was on the way to the hospital. Dad was cared for at River Ridge and did not have to go to rehab. The doctor on the staff of River Ridge oversaw this care. My dad could sometimes be a handful and during a particularly stressful time the team of care givers, up to and including the administrators, helped resolve the issue with compassion and professionalism. The kitchen staff and all the certified nursing assistants were caring and kind. Even the maintenance staff were diligent and effective. I would not have moved my dad but for a different level of care and a savings of over $1,200.00 per month we moved dad to a facility in another state. My older brother is now dad's caretaker. My only complaint is that there were not enough activities for dad outside of the River Ridge facility itself. My father is fairly able-bodied for an 84-year-old man and sometimes he was bored. That was also a side effect of his failing vision but more activities would have been great. I would recommend River Ridge to anyone who needs the assisted living level of care. Good luck in your search!

As [name removed] got sicker, they were unable to handle her and I had to move her to another facility. A couple of additional comments: it was difficult to talk to people because they all seemed so busy and overwhelmed. When I got someone's attention, they said they weren't busy and we could talk, but it always felt rushed and incomplete. Possibly trivial, but it bothered my wife (and me): I was there between 6 PM and 8 PM. The aids would communicate with each other from one end of a hallway to another by yelling at each other. Their voices were very loud. It was disturbing.

Mindset is important and I can't predict that. So be open minded and pay attention to the presentation. I left in [date removed] when [name removed] moved to the Alzheimer's ward. She died [date removed]. They were working on improving several services including food at that time. I have had no contact since then. It is a pleasant setting with caring staff . With a real effort to make it a good experience for the residents. Definitely a nice place.

The staff at Benchmark were remarkable- everyone from the front desk, to the caretakers, to the cleaning staff, to the cafeteria staff and management. They are personable and all treated my father with respect and dignity. The administration staff, however, were terrible. Outstanding Care, but incompetent management. Requires family members to be highly involved to assure critical errors are avoided.

Cleaning staff there is scarce. Dad asks to go to the bathroom and it can take over 20 minutes and by then he is wet. Dad is happy with the food. For activities, Dad is very active dad does things we never thought he would do. We are paying over 15k. Hygiene should be excellent and no wet diapers.

Ask questions several times during the process - The timeline from initial discussions and visits to move in can be lengthy. So, it is best to confirm amenities and services that are important to your loved one before you sign paperwork. Several important amenities had been discontinued by the time of move in, so expectations were off. Notwithstanding, NPV is still a great place!

The cleanliness of the facility was big in our decision. The outdoor grounds were and always are beautifully landscaped and take care of. The layout of the rooms are better than others I have seen. They allowed my stepmother with Alzheimer's live with my father in assisted living for 6 months to ease the trauma of moving. They worked with us where other homes wouldn't. I would definitely recommend.

Moving in was easy but I was informed that the manual hoyer lift I had needed to be removed from the premises because it was not the type that the staff had been trained on. There was a concern that “the State” would find a lift that had no one was certified to use. It was removed and donated the next day. What was not disclosed was the electric lifts on site were not working rendering my wife being bedridden until new equipment arrived (approximately 2 weeks). I can’t imagine what would have happened if there was a fire or smoke condition (with no working equipment). On the plus side the staff is friendly and the food is good.

Very nice facility, friendly staff, great programming for residents. My family member had a difficult transition into the facility, however, and I think more could have been done to help her adapt. She is still struggling to get into a consistent routine after a few months, and sometimes it is hard for us to connect with or get responses from a staff member who can help us come up with strategies and plan for her care.

The facility is clean and well maintained and the food is quite good. There's a good range of services for a small facility. The staff (both direct care staff and upper level staff) always seem a little harried, although mostly friendly enough. My complaints are first world problems, like laundry getting stuffed in random drawers instead of in the drawers I've carefully labeled. The biggest issue is that mom needs an "escort" (someone to push her wheelchair) so she has to wait for someone to come get her to bring her to activities, meals, etc. (This increases her required level of care so we do pay for this.) Which means she can't share meals with friends or social events easily...often when she arrives everyone is wrapping up. She has mostly given up on trying to make it to the various social programming they offer because she has to call someone to come get her and then wait.
